I can appreciate many different forms and styles of tattooing, for me I am a huge fan of Neo-Traditional tattoos and is what most of my work is done in. I like traditional american/ Japanese tattoos, but for me, they just don't 'float my boat' aesthetically. The imagery is fantastic though. I can appreciate the work put into these designs, the process of how it is applied, the craftsmanship. I love tattoos and can't even begin to explain the plethora of information this site has taught me over these last few years. I can confidently say I understand the sites' (for lack of a better word) obsession with traditional american and Japanese style of tattooing. Its all going back to tattooing's flourish and roots of what can stand the test of time, its what has been proven to work. But as with every form of (for lack of a better word again) 'art' there needs to be an evolution for it to survive in a way. Just like in nature, evolution needs to be small and subtle, yet changed enough to not go extinct. Such as, grime's work when he was starting to get major recognition. It was similar to a lot of styles out there but had a twist that was recognizable and worked well, well enough for people to copy his twang. As grime was just an example to how tattooing can change into something the general populace will know almost nothing about, most only look at whats 'hot' right now. All in all tattooing is something that to me has no certain look, shape, or form; since it has been practice for thousands and thousands of years. Thanks for listening to my opinion on the matter, I'm sure some of you will have different perspectives that you can share and enlighten me/ us on this hobby we all share, Thanks!

I think I understand what @Rad Kelham is saying. It is somewhat of a turn down that this forum is not more open to more different styles other than Traditional. Let me elaborate. You dont get much conversation going on the neo trad, newschool, or the artist that execute them.. etc... When you do, it gets shutdown with allot of "That is not going to last" blah blah blah. Instead of looking a bit further out to the details and recognizing good art or even saying how well it got executed or not or what ever... Most of the time is just gets ignored or gets nowhere or even turns in to a bad thread... I am not saying this true for most users but the majority, specially does who allot of users look up too...
I tell you that is not my ignorance that does not allow me to like Traditional, But my personality and who I am that does not allow me to like it. I cant illustrate a traditional tattoo for the life of me, Maybe a neo trad but I would really have to like it and the person doing it I have to be very confident on them... Yes I have learned allot about traditional tattoos here and out side of here but I cant for now illustrate one.
I like the style that fits me and I will continue to collect them from the artists that I like, Is it trendy? who cares, it fits me. :D

I can only relate to the sternum and ribs. I banged out 6 hours on the ribs in one day. It hurt but wasn't extremely unbearable. The sternum hurt enough for me to see red, literally (didn't hurt extremely bad though), but out of anyone to believe, I can believe you.

I didn't mean elitist as a bad way of looking at tattoos and the culture. It may not have been the right word because I've never seen anyone get berated for not agreeing with the masses on here. But how many people look at tattoos as art appreciation? I promise you, not many if you think about how many people have tattoos as a whole. That's why I said the majority of the population doesn't care about the tattoo culture or the artistry behind getting them. They look at it as paying for a service. Which is why you hear about price haggling and trying to get discounts.
I'm not broke by any means necessary but I'm not rich either, but there are some tattooers I would love to get work from, but I will never be tattooed by because I won't pay that much for a tattoo, but I do believe the saying about cheap tattoos and good tattoos.
But I am also the type of person that will never ever get a full back piece or chest piece. Some people view tattoos as something that they are ok spending a lot of disposable income on while most of the population is not. Me personally, I have things I would rather spend those thousands of dollars on than getting tattooed that people on here wouldn't agree with.
It's like traditional tattoos on here. From everything I've seen most of the people here seem to love traditional style tattoos and flash. Me, I don't think I could ever get a tattoo of flash off a wall, or traditional style because I don't like them.

I never get too concerned about other people's tattoos. I don't know their story or how they came to have their tattoos. I also never crap on anyone about their tattoos (or clothes, or taste in music, etc). Life is too short to waste time and energy harshing on other people. Historically, I look at older tattoos and appreciate the tattooer and the client for paving the way for the things that came next. I have enormous respect for people who blazed the trail and made things easier for me. (Full disclosure - I got my first tattoo in '91 or '92. And yes, there are times that I shake my head and wonder what people were thinking - I just keep it to myself)
Interesting question - thanks for posting it.

Reminds me of Starship troopers (which was also done with a laser). I feel this is inevitable, most of the General population doesn't care about the culture of tattooing. We all know those people that want a sleeve, back or chest piece done in an unreal time period. I'm sure someone will capitalize on this idea and we will see these as frequent as a redbox. Welcome to Skynet....
Is it possible the same negative feelings were felt when the modern tattoo machine was made?

The problem is that when you are in a vulnerable position, it is pretty difficult to speak up. Calling misogynistic behaviour out rarely ends with the perpetrator apologising and reflecting on what they've said/done. At best, you might get a patronising 'lighten up' type response, at worst an aggressive response.
"Silence is consent" is victim-blaming bullshit. This is far more offensive than I think you realise, and is scarily close to blaming her for what clothes she was wearing.
