  1. Oh my ****ing god, those artists. That work is just awesome. As said, I'm new... and god damn... I'm so happy right now to see that there actually are tattoo artists that have already produced work similar that I'm looking for. So ****ing happy :D

Also, thank you for sharing information about Allan Tuul. His work seems different though. It seems to be more about dots, do you think he would be able to produce quality engraving style tattoos as well as the other artists mentioned in this thread?

    Cheers!

  2. Hi again,

At the moment I'm looking for a artists who could do engraving style tattoos that would hold up well.

I'm planning to get a bear or bears head with a crown, inspired by reneissance era engravings. Example about mentioned engravings:

So far I know that Liam Sparkes, Maxime and Duncan X could be good choices. Any other artists who I should consider?

I live in Estonia, so it would be really awesome I was able to visit them in Latvia, Lithuania, Finland or Sweden or Russia. But as I've waited for a long time to get this tattoo, I dont really mind for waiting a bit longer if I needed to gather more money in order to visit the artist in UK or elsewhere in Europe (for now visiting US is sadly out of my budget).

    Thanks!

  3. Thank you for the feedback.

I thought about getting the tattoo abroad myself, but sadly I do not have the finances for that at the moment. I figured that I'd spend up to 400 euros (~500 dollars) on the first tattoo, as it's not that big, was hoping that it would cover the cost. Sadly anything beyond that, is out of my financial budget.

kylegrey you mentioned that you personally would not get tattoos in any of the parlors I linked. Fair enough. May I ask why? Is their technique "bad" or something else?

Taking a trip to Russia is a bigger problem for me, as I dont speak almost any Russian :P So in this case, if the final conclusion is that the Estonian tattoo artists are not up for the job, I'll have to save up some more money and get a tattoo in Finland, Sweden or Latvia. Latvia would be the easiest to do.

Btw thank you for the tip about "chilling" in the tattoo shop. Somehow I got the wrong impression, to me it seemed that tattoo artists arent too keen to see people who just chill and look at designs and ask stupid questions (for them). My bad there :)

Ooh... you found a Estonian tattoo artist who does quality work? :D

So when talking about the Estonian artists, can someone please point out which one does the best work in your opinion?

  4. Thank you for the replies. I've thought about it myself, but for now, thought that it would be best to seek a bit advice from people with tattoos and who tattoo themselves (this community).

I respect the craft and people who make tattoos, however as I'm a complete newcomer to the whole tattoo concept (I dont know anyone who has tattoos). In other words I am a bit afraid that once I go to the tattoo parlor, the tattoo artist might use my lack of knowledge about the subject and just say "yes yes yes, it will be awesome, it can be done, it will stay like this for 60 years :)"

Perhaps I'm being overcautious here, but I would like for this to be one of those good experiences in life and I'm doing what can be done to educate myself a bit more. So if anyone can answer some of the questions asked in the first post, please do so :)

As for my location, I live in Estonia. That will probably limit different tattoo artists I can choose from.

After doing some research, I've found the following Estonian tattoo parlors. Can you suggest which of the artists seems the best for you? Or perhaps you can suggest another artist in Estonia?

  5. Hey there,

For about 10 years, I've fantasized about getting a tattoo. Now I finally got the funds and time to do it.

The problem here is that I think that my tattoo idea ain't all that good. I've wanted to get something inspired by renaissance era engravings.

    A example:

    http://uploads7.wikipaintings.org/images/albrecht-durer/saint-eustace.jpg

But the more I've read this forum and other publications about tattoos, I've come to understand that very detailed tattoos might go blurry faster (when compared to bold tattoos with less detail). I accept that tattoos age as we all do & dont mind "re-tattooing" a older tattoo at some point to make it look new better again.

    So my question here is...

As I'm looking to get a black and white tattoo.

    Position upper arm

    Theme hopefully bear or wolf/raven...

The long-term plan is that if the first tattoo will be awesome, I'd complete one full sleeve arm, then perhaps another and a few more tattoos herenthere.

Which sort of tattoo technique would you recommend that would last best as it ages? Also could you point me to some upper arm tattoos that I could use to get inspiration from?

I'll have the tattoo done in one of three professional tattoo salongs.

    Thanks a bunch!

  6. This is currently my only tattoo, done by Johannes(Black Stallion Tattoo) who now works at Good Faith in Brookline, MA.

    B8TNncTq.jpg

I'd wanted a tattoo since I was 18. I'd been throwing around a lot of ideas in my head of band-related tattoos but couldn't settle on where I'd start. I'd been researching artists for a while and one day stumbled on the stencil for basically this bear that Johannes had on his Facebook saying that he wanted to do the bear on someone. No one had replied, so I volunteered and ended up getting it done at the Rochester convention in May.

Thats one fierce beast you got there. Just curious, do you shave your legs or did the tattoo process somehow stop hair growth?

  7. Both of my forearm tattoos end just over an inch from the line where the palm meets. And they are visible if I stretch or reach for something without thinking. I sort of unconsciously look around or just be careful when reaching for something. I always bring a dress shirt with me when I get inked and have some concerns. Me and the artist agree on where to stop the tattooing before it starts.

The 3/4 sleeve is a great idea, wished I thought of it sooner. Too late now... Has anyone ever extended a 3/4 sleeve into a full sleeve and had it looking good?

    CG

    Thats a good idea.

  8. Yeah. Hi.

I'm from Estonia (Northen EUrope). I dont know alot about tattoos. The little I know, I've learned from this site, reading articles online, watching interviews with tattoo artists etc. Ah yes and I also have 2 dogs, 2 cats and I'm studying to be a preschool teacher.

I'm 27. Got the idea of getting a tattoo around 10 years ago or so, since then I've thought about it, forgot about it, remembered about it and now... I'm thinking that it would be a good time to finally get my tattoo started.

    Thanks for reading :)
