It's funny coming back to this thread now that I'm single, since my previous posts from a while ago I was in a relationship. He still does not have any tattoos, but all I know is I definitely want someone that has a major interest in it.

Just feels like a waste of time trying to explain this whole culture to a newbie....I think it's a big part of understanding a person on a fundamental level to begin with, and if you gotta explain it's a little draining...

Maybe some of you can give me some pointers on getting some ink on my man then. hehe
Not that I mind at all. If anything it's really fun when people meet him expecting some punk rocker that's covered, and they get a normal balanced individual.

You see, I'm rapidly approaching my 49th birthday. February 13th (which also falls on a Friday the 13th for the first time in ages! WOOHOO!) will mark the 30th year since I got my first tattoo. The tattoo shop was inside of a biker bar in Waynesville, N.C. It was named J.B's Tattoo & Tavern.
You could get anything you wanted... As long as you picked it from the flash on the wall.
He used an acetate stencil, graphite powder and Speedstick deodorant to transfer the design, and I remember very clearly that he didn't use gloves (this was 1985 after all).
I've been hooked ever since, and that tattoo is still there. There's also an appointment already scheduled to mark this little milestone.

good artist, but jesus was he dumb. one time he ran around the shop freaking out for ten minutes because he thought there was an alarm going off in the shop, he was like "ITS IN EVERY ROOM WHERE IS IT COMING FROM?!?!" and finally one of our clients ruined the fun and told him the shop phone was off the hook in his pocket.
but when i say that i mean it still took 5 minutes of us all getting pissed and yelling at him that the alarm was the phone beeping in his pocket. all the while, he's like "what? the phone? but its in every room! in my pocket? yea i have the phone in my pocket. wait what? OHHH! dude. it was in every room"
one time we were listening to creed (sarcastically of course) and he chimed in "wasnt creed like the original pearl jam that came out like way earlier"
i smacked him. hard.
he also was unaware of several common terms and phrases in american society. i had to explain what "from the get go" meant. he didnt know was a freeloader was.
ONE TIME i made him freehand copy (not trace) a myke chambers piece in pen (no erasing, u mess up you start over) bc while explaining to him the finer points of traditional tattoos he said "um no offense but thats stupid, im pretty sure a 9 year old could draw that"
i immediately handed him a pen and said "okay do it." he grabbed the lightbox and i said "whoa whoa whoa. you dont need to trace that, youre 18, so if a 9 year old can do it it should be twice as easy for you" hahaha i made him draw that thing like 12-13 times.
i kinda miss that idiot now. he was kind of a loveable idiot.

So we did a painting of a sleeve of clouds and stars and....shit. Actual turds, with bits of corn in them and everything. Strangely enough people start to get a bit more specific when we whip it out.

My strategy is to play dead, like I'm being mauled by a tiny bear. So far it's working.

I totally cringe when I see the plastic wrap. Just feel like it doesn't look professional, and there's no proper barrier for a fresh tattoo.
Not only is it keeping your tattoo clean, and absorbing the bacteria that goes with it...when you take it off, the cleaning is that much easier than saran wrap cause everything dries and sticks to your skin/tattoo..
I find it absolutely gross.

Coming from someone that would kill for an apprenticeship...it's been rough.
The excuses I get is that they're worried they won't *like* the person. (Which can be easily solved!)
I also apparently need to become 'buddies' with these people first... and even then they get a million idiots like me asking for an apprenticeship. Kinda tough finding artists that don't have their nose in the air.
My issue is if you seriously don't want me tattooing in my home then teach me!!!
But until then, I'll continue to practice on fake skin & grow my own way. Not many options...
One shop OWNER told me he's not able to teach another because he's only been tattooing for 4 years....yet you own a shop..... wow...
This industry feels like a cult sometimes...

I entered this into the contest a few months back, but that was when it was a half sleeve. The top half is done by Lillian Chen in Yorktown VA at Ancient Art and the bottom part is done by Stacy Mcleaf of Chrome Gardens in Gettysburg PA.

Just sounds like you're still swollen? For me it takes a solid 3 days for that part to go away...on a decent sized piece anyway.

Really feel for her.. especially after explaining that she is a practicing Buddhist, and is well traveled.
Which is part of the reason I would cover myself up pretty well visiting certain countries. Not worth being jailed for something completely innocent, but at the same time stories like this paves way for a different view on tattooed culture. Or at least helps in some ways...

If anyone here is into eagles .... there is an eagle cam here in NJ pointed at a bald eagle's nest. Two of the eggs have hatched, and the third is in progress. It is quite a thing to see! Every now and then mom gets up, feeds the other two chicks, rolls the egg around (which already has a little hole in it) and rocks down on top of them all. So close!!!

She's looking far better than the last time I posted pictures. A lot of her yellow has come in and it appears as though she is a Super-Hypo. Short for super hypomelanistic leopard gecko, meaning that she has none of the spots that standard leos have, save for the tail and a few on the head/face. I'm thinking she also might be a carrot-tail (30% orange tail), cause with each shed a little more orange shows up.
Basically she is an adorable tiny dinosaur. :o

I think it's straight up plagiarism for sure. The only time I guuuueeess it's "ok" is if the client is dead set on wanting it... Even then if I were a tattoo artist I would try everything to convince them to go a more original route..
What kind of respect do they even have for themselves as artists if they do things this way...
