You can have full coverage with trad, particularly if you really pack in fillers.
Oliver Peck has denser coverage up close than a lot of Japanese suits in a way. Hard to read though, even nearby.
Even without star background or whatever I'm reminded of a Stuart Cripwell bodysuit in progress that Id hesitate not to call "full coverage".
Just an aside.

I like most styles of tattoo. Honestly, only style that I wouldn't wear is tribal work.
There is a user on here that is pretty much suited in gorgeous black and grey realism work (forgive me I forget his name) that gets a lot of positive feedback from most users.
one of my favorite posters around here (not naming names lol) has a back piece of of underwater images that she took while on dives. I don't think it fits specifically into a single category and it is very nice.
Can I ask what is your bias with American Traditional? Honestly, this whole industry is steeped in history and respect for prior generations. It is one of the few remaining apprentice/ master crafts out there, and there is immense "lore" behind so much of the images that we know of that became staples. I am at a loss with how anyone can be so into tattoos without appreciating these sides of it. Help me see your side of it.
And just a comment about japanese/ american traditional. The bold outlines involved in both styles don't let you hide your mistakes as easily as in a big black foot skull with a twohead and infant teeth ;)

Got this ass sucking Kappa when I was out working the Vancouver Tattoo Show from Chad Woodley. Healed beautifully. Great tattooer.

Finished up with Rob yesterday. That guy is an absolute champion. It's hard to find the words to express how happy I am.

Then one of my and my newborn for the heck of it.
I'm just not sure how my other arm would look if it was half b/g and half traditional color since there's no way to add color to what I have. I'm not worked about mixing themes. I like the look of traditional with a Japanese background. Just wish my traditional arm wasn't so dark and had more flow.
Next thing I'd like to change is darken up or do something to my mandal. Just seems a little bland. Maybe some dotwork inside or something to make it more detailed.

The way the artist did the hills is different (I can't say not how I expected, because I wasn't sure what to expect with them), but I think it's a function of trying to get the reference picture into the style and I think as it fades a bit, it will look even better.
My two minor issues are the shading of the road at the bottom right and the rock (I think) that looks like it got missed along the left hand side. Now that I'm healed, I assume it's not a big deal to touch base with the artist and have him fix those two areas real quick sometime?
