  1. My tattoo did the same thing. If you look at my pics you will see the olive hinge looking brownish. It is totally gray now. I liked the brown shading so much that I am going back in tomorrow to have that "brown" shading put back in. Great tattoo by the way.

I got my shading on my tattoo done yesterday and It looks light brown, not gray. I'm like 85% sure this is totally normal and it'll turn gray as it heals, right?

I figured I'd ask, because its either post here or study for finals.. Lol. I'm curious.

I'm really stoked to see it after 6 months when it fades, and i hope it fades nicely.

Anyway, its kinda hard to see in pics, but it is very light brown. will this change to black

    /gray as it heals?

  2. Hi all,

Thanks for responding to my post, you are all right, it is up to the artist what they charge, they do have to set everything up and yeah, I could get this done in conjunction with another tattoo. I have swallowed my "cost concerns" and have scheduled an appointment to get the color. Avery, I totally agree with you in regards to waiting but I knew I wanted it colored when I got the original tatoo but I didn't know if I wanted it to be silver, gold, copper, etc. In the end I am going for rose gold. Wish me luck and thanks again everyone.

  3. I hate to even ask this question because I don't want to come across as being cheap, but I want to make sure that I am paying a reasonable price for an addition of color on an exhisting tattoo. I want to add some color to the olive part of the hinge in the ditch of my arm. What my artist quoted seemed a little over the top so I thought I would find out from this group what a reasonable price would be.

I have attached a picture of the tattoo and I am wanting to add a rose gold color just to the olive. Thanks in advance for any advice and take care,

    Chris

  4. I got a tattoo 5 weeks ago in the ditch of my arm and the only thing I am not crazy about is the tightness of it. If I don't keep it really moisturized it's almost as if I can't stretch my arm out to its full extension or I feel a slight ripping sensation like I'm wearing a sticker in the ditch of my arm. Other than that no complaints. Anyone else experience this in the ditch, or anywhere else for that matter?

  5. As Brock said, take your time in placement and design, as we all know, this is permanent and no do overs. When I went in for my own tattoo I hated the design and felt that the artist didn't listen to me at all. He opened the file I had left with him regarding what I wanted and said give me 30 minutes. I'm glad I did because I really love the outcome and in the end that's all that matters. 13 days & counting.

P.S. I ended up doubling the original tip I had in my mind because of the outcome. So yeah, tipping counts.

Yeah the first design I wasn't 100% sure about so I told him what needed to be changed and he changed it really fast. I will diffinitly be tipping he has made a lot of really helpful suggestions and gave me great advice on design and placement and I LOVE the design. Thank you and I will be posting pictures ASAP.
  6. Hi vPooch,

I am an older gal (45) that just got her first tattoo a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to give you some advice about your appointment. I don't know the driving age where you are but try to have someone take you and pick you up. It's an exhausting yet exciting time for you and you will just want to breath when it's done. Take bottled water with you and drink it during your session. I had to lie down for mine and the water gave me little breaks and kept the dry mouth away. Try to eat a decent meal before you go so nerves don't get to your tummy. Listen very carefully to your artist when you are done so that you know how to take care of your tattoo when you get home. Try to get that care in writing if you can so that you don't have to remember exactly what he said. I wish you nothing but the best, you sound like a great kid with a solid head on your shoulders and I am proud of you for being brave about coming on here and being polite in regards to what these fine folks said to you. They only mean the best for you. Be safe and share your experience with us.

Ahh 17 more days until the big day any advice on how to kill time faster? :p or anything I should do maybe a week before the big day?

  7. So, I went to see my artist this morning. He said I had more of a reaction to the tape they used than I did to the tattoo, which totally makes sense because it's right where the tape was after my tattoo was done. He said not to worry and also mentioned to not address them at the same time and lotion them up seperately between washes just to be on the safe side

I appreciate you all for helping me.

  8. I have a new tattoo in the ditch of my right arm. About an inch away from my tattoo just below my elbow I have developed a rash. The only way I can think of to describe it is a small poison oak rash. I haven't been outdoors where I would get poison oak and my tattoo is almost a month old. Just wondering if this is common and hoping that it does not effect my tattoo.

Any advice would be great & thanks,

    Chris

  9. I have a hinge but it is very untraditional. It's an olive hinge with scroll work instead of metal plates. Take a look, I just got it Feb. 25th. chris_s_tatoo_2013_thumb.jpg

the spot on my arm I hated the most. I appreciate ones that accent the action of the ditch, but anything there that looks good is a tattoo that works. Nothing beats a good ol' hinge but I can't find any good ones. Wish I had ore time to fish around on IG and whatnot but I'm on my way out the door to work. So here's some shit from Google. Sorry for sizing, I'm in a rush.

I'd post mine, but they aren't stand-alone tattoos; the ditch in an over-all sleeve aren't quite the same in impact.

  10. I feel bad that I am the first one welcoming you because I am brand new here as well and don't know much about tattoos other than they hurt a bit and are permanent(laughing). I just got my first tattoo a couple of weeks ago, a hinge on my right arm. You have joined an amazing group of artists, tattoo'd folks, and plain ol' bad asses over here. My artist was new like you and he is amazing and I think you will be on that very same road too. I hope you love this group as much as I do. Enjoy!!

    Chris

Hey everyone! My name is Justin and I am an apprentice at south shore tattoo in amityville NY (home of the horror). As I write to you now I am being tattooed by my friend and owner of th shop mike Nomikos who is really talented and I'll post a pic later for you all to see. I should be starting tattooing soon and I figured I'd become a part of this community to share some ideas and photos of my progress, in time hopefully I'll have some of your blessings to tattoo you. If any of you wish to follow my progress and life in tattooing you can check out my Instagram: @Jbulba. Thanks and hello!
  11. I chose my first tattoo a long time ago I just never knew how to make it work on my body, my first tattoo was finally done last month(February 2013). My grandfather was in the Navy. He had tattoos all over his arms, dancing ladies, navy patches, and hinges. He also had bugs bunny on his stomach that said "What's up Doc?" at his crotch. He had a pig on one foot and a rooster on the other and the reasoning behind it was that you wouldn't drown if you had them.

I loved his hinges the most. Being that I'm a gal I didn't want big ol' metal plates on my arm. So I modernized it a bit and did an olive hinge with scroll work in place of the metal plates. I keep telling myself that I should be saying it's too big and it's too dark but I love it and I don't think either of those things. It's like my grandfather is right here with me and I get glimpses of him every time I see it. He passed away suddenly 30 years ago and this tattoo is an honor to finally wear in his memory all of these years later. I love you Glenn Wayne Dalton.

  12. Wow, I can see why Kore is your artist. You have a lot to look forward to with this new tiger. It looks like he's pretty proud of your dragon too. Thanks for sharing that.

I'm guessing it will be around three sessions. If you want to get an idea of what my artist's tigers look like, check Kore Flatmo's Facebook page. He posted a kickass tiger a week or so ago. There's a bunch of other great stuff posted there too.
  13. I think we are all excited to see the tiger after that amazing dragon. Do you know how many sessions you will do for the tiger? Just curious.

Thank you very much. I'd love to take credit, but I told him what I wanted and let him run with it. The one thing I do know about tattoos, is I know nothing about tattoos. I told him I loved what he did and gave him free rain to run with it. My only request was I wanted the dragon to look wise and benevolent and not menacing. I think he nailed it.

I'm excited to see the tiger. Unlike the dragon I won't see a study before hand because I wanted to be surprised and I know any ideas I have will pale in comparison to his vision. One more month to go.
