I have a hinge but it is very untraditional. It's an olive hinge with scroll work instead of metal plates. Take a look, I just got it Feb. 25th.

I got a tattoo 5 weeks ago in the ditch of my arm and the only thing I am not crazy about is the tightness of it. If I don't keep it really moisturized it's almost as if I can't stretch my arm out to its full extension or I feel a slight ripping sensation like I'm wearing a sticker in the ditch of my arm. Other than that no complaints. Anyone else experience this in the ditch, or anywhere else for that matter?

Well, its kinda funny you mention that, my Dad is going to go in with me to get a new tattoo (first since 1957) pretty soon and he is 74...so maybe I will end up with at least hands...I could get knuckles that said AARP LIFE or something...

I know this us a huge generalization, but they usually get the wackest tattoos!!!!
They get super small super detailed crap in a super private spot. Coming into the shop acting like they are such huge rebels. Wanna be a rebel? Buy a Honda instead of a BMW.
Reminds me of one of my favorite jokes....
What's the difference between a BMW and a porqupine?
Porqupines have the pricks on the OUTSIDE.
*nothing against BMW owners. Just yuppies

And ultimately pricing is up to the artist, there's no flat rate that is consistent with all works or artists

I suppose one thing to keep in mind is even though the amount of time they might need to actually tattoo you is short, they still have to setup/breakdown, clean and everything else that would be involved in the longer session. Just something to think about.

You have only had the tattoo for a few weeks. Give it some time to settle in and for you to get used to having it before you start changing it up.

Meh ... We don't talk prices here. Sounds like you dont want much. Just remember that there's usually a shop minimum flat price that covers an hour (usually?).

^This. As a result, I would speculate that the least expensive* way to get your tiny olive colored would be to go back and get another tattoo and have your artist just put some color in it then.
*Yeah, that will be even more money out of your pocket than the quote you just got - but hey, a new tattoo!

    Hi vPooch,
I am an older gal (45) that just got her first tattoo a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to give you some advice about your appointment. I don't know the driving age where you are but try to have someone take you and pick you up. It's an exhausting yet exciting time for you and you will just want to breath when it's done. Take bottled water with you and drink it during your session. I had to lie down for mine and the water gave me little breaks and kept the dry mouth away. Try to eat a decent meal before you go so nerves don't get to your tummy. Listen very carefully to your artist when you are done so that you know how to take care of your tattoo when you get home. Try to get that care in writing if you can so that you don't have to remember exactly what he said. I wish you nothing but the best, you sound like a great kid with a solid head on your shoulders and I am proud of you for being brave about coming on here and being polite in regards to what these fine folks said to you. They only mean the best for you. Be safe and share your experience with us.

Chris3000 got a reaction from beez in Choosing your first tattoo
I chose my first tattoo a long time ago I just never knew how to make it work on my body, my first tattoo was finally done last month(February 2013). My grandfather was in the Navy. He had tattoos all over his arms, dancing ladies, navy patches, and hinges. He also had bugs bunny on his stomach that said "What's up Doc?" at his crotch. He had a pig on one foot and a rooster on the other and the reasoning behind it was that you wouldn't drown if you had them.
I loved his hinges the most. Being that I'm a gal I didn't want big ol' metal plates on my arm. So I modernized it a bit and did an olive hinge with scroll work in place of the metal plates. I keep telling myself that I should be saying it's too big and it's too dark but I love it and I don't think either of those things. It's like my grandfather is right here with me and I get glimpses of him every time I see it. He passed away suddenly 30 years ago and this tattoo is an honor to finally wear in his memory all of these years later. I love you Glenn Wayne Dalton.

The best you can do is follow your aftercare instructions, and try like hell to not bend your arm. :) That's a pretty painful spot, and the more you take care of it, the better your chances are for not needing a touch up.

So, I went to see my artist this morning. He said I had more of a reaction to the tape they used than I did to the tattoo, which totally makes sense because it's right where the tape was after my tattoo was done. He said not to worry and also mentioned to not address them at the same time and lotion them up seperately between washes just to be on the safe side
I appreciate you all for helping me.
