  1. I mean I know I'm probably never going to win one of these things but it's still awesome to see what you guys are entering! Maybe we can have like a lightspeed August contest of 3 days!! What do you think @Iwar?
  2. Carolyn LeBourgeois tattooing wow holy fuck I am boring u___u
  3. @hogg Cheers! :) @polliwog totally! At least with ink caps, they come in various sizes and you can meter the amount of pigment you'll need for each application, minimizing waste of both pigment and packaging. @Graeme yeah, I mean the health department isn't completely useless, but dynamics like this have been discussed around the tattoo community for at least 20 years. I definitely remember reading old and new articles in tattoo magazines on the importance of sanitary standards and the responsibility of the tattoo community to work with the health department to impart only necessary regulations. Although to be fair, it's not the most attractive responsibility on account of the fact that every person working for the government pretty much just wants money and thinks that because they hold a position in the state that they know what they're doing. Personally, I prefer the door to be more closed than open.
  4. https://www.change.org/p/andrew-cuomo-david-carlucci-kenneth-zebrowski-new-york-state-department-of-health-change-nys-bill-s1421-2015-to-allow-the-use-of-disposable-ink-caps-in-tattooing?recruiter=368545516&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink There has been a lot of fuss over this on instagram over the last few days and I feel like this is something worth sharing with the broader tattoo community as it can ultimately affect everyone. Whether you live in the state of New York and get tattooed there, whether you are a tattooer working in the state or planning to travel there for work/getting tattooed, or simply concerned that this law may set a beaurocratic precedent for other states, you should sign this petition. In a nutshell, the state passed a bill that requires all artists to use pre-packaged, single-use packets of tattoo pigment for every tattoo. Most of the concerns with this proposition are outlined in the petition, but basically it will make buying pigments very expensive, limit the quality and options of pigment available for the tattooer to buy, and will ultimately make the entire tattoo more expensive for the collector. While I feel that the health department plays an important role in holding artists accountable for safe work practices, I also feel that at the end of the day they usually have no idea what the fuck they're doing without input from the inside and this bill is no exception. Sign please! We got this!
  5. @hellamuch damn, that's on you?! Seen pictures of it floating around, such a rad Jesus. Good on you, man!
  6. @hellamuch right on, welcome!
  7. So you're from Oakland, right?
  8. @Cork why, cause lol ass? also @Graeme, thank you! That is my favorite part about it, I have no idea how he put this together and will forever remain a wizard in my mind.
  9. Sorry for not responding to everyone earlier, I posted that right before sitting down for dinner but oh man, thank you for the overwhelming positive response! @Cork so insanely cool to see all of that as a process!! Must have been neat to put those photos together and take a trip down memory lane with all of it. I also have taken pain killers for getting the linework done, and you are absolutely right about it not doing a whole lot as far as actually dulling the pain. You definitely still feel everything and it is pretty intense, it just isn't quite so brutal and immediate. @pidjones thank you! I figured instagram wouldn't be the right place for this one, the format is so irregular for photo sharing. @Pugilist thanks, Anna! Also very impressed with that as well, can't fathom actually trying to draw that. @MrToby Thank you! The artist is Kahlil Rintye at Tattoo City in SF. @Diehardonvhs @Lance @sophistre @mmikaoj @Rob I @hogg @suburbanxcore Thank you guys very much! Means a lot! @BrianH WOW WOW WOW SO SICK! Damn!!
  10. Yes!!! I'll be there, naturally. Can't wait to see you babes :o I probably won't be getting any tattoos though cause for obvious reasons I can't afford it haha. Although that's kind of a bullshit reason cause it's impossible to leave that show with any money in your pocket.
  11. Are you getting the other upside down face girl? Cause you totally should!!!!
  12. Looks like it's a girl, and looks like she doesn't have any tattoos, so I'd stay the fuck away and go find a real tattooer. Also what the fuck is this? https://instagram.com/p/3USZz8v9es/?taken-by=machinaelectrica
  13. @Cork I'll have pictures for you guys soon! @Graeme ugh yours looks so good though! Been rad to see it all come together so fast, big ups to everyone in this thread for their dedication.
  14. IMO the best japanese-style tattooers in the bay are in no order: Dave Moore - True Love, Berkeley Luke Stewart - Seventh Son, San Francisco Jason Phillips - FTW, Oakland Tim Lehi - Temple, Oakland Horitomo/Colin Baker/Jill Bonny - State of Grace, San Jose Colin Stevens - Body Manipulations, San Francisco Everyone who works at - Diamond Club, San Francisco Kahlil Rintye - Tattoo City, San Francisco Ben Cheese - Everlasting, San Francisco Andre Malcolm - Skull & Sword, San Francisco I'm probably forgetting some folks, but thems the best of the best. Also I have seen some wonderful Japanese from Paul Dobleman for what it's worth.
  15. Finished all of the linework today. 4 hours on the ass and ribs was super cool. u______u But on the plus side it is the most gorgeous tattoo ever and I could not be more thrilled about having gone through with this. Also I met Ed Hardy today and I was pretty much naked except for a drape sheet and my socks so that was awesome haha
  16. Single-needle rose from Mr. Downtown Oakland in a week in a half! Very excited. Very, very nervous.
  17. Ugh I could write so much on this topic but I have to get ready for work soon. I'll put it in a nutshell though. First of all, my opinions on this topic are constantly evolving and changing. I also strongly believe that in the USA, the people in power in this country are deliberately manipulating the media and the police force to create strong racial tension that will eventually break out into rioting, giving the state the opportunity to declare martial law (whole other topic of discussion). So with that being said, cultural appropriation and race are hot topics and very sensitive and close to home for a lot of people, also creating a complex of white guilt among many people (bullshit), which is where a lot of the internet social justice warriors come from. No seriously, next time you see someone yelping on the internet, just for curiosity, take a look at their race. So from my perspective, many of these concerns and emotional triggers are definitely valid, but also being blown up to push the buttons of the public to engage in certain hot topics and ignore other extremely disturbing shit that is happening behind the curtain (GMO engineering, climate engineering, drone warfare, DARPA, CERN, etc). So if a tattoo is offensive to you, guess what? The internet isn't the place to get into it. Talk to the person wearing it, you don't know the reason that they got that tattoo. It could be satirical, or it could be legitimately ignorant. You may have the chance to change your own point of view or influence someone else's. As for the whole white privilege/guilt thing in regards to cultural appropriation, everyone should be aware of their privilege so as to not capitalize on it and marginalize other people, everyone should generally be good to other people, and nobody should feel guilty about things that their ancestors have done because guess fucking what? You weren't there for it, you had nothing to do with it, and you can't change the past.
  18. @sophistre Uggghhhh that is fucked up good. Wow. o_o
  19. @sophistre Easy to heal, not as intense as a full large tattoo, but the itch is definitely as bad because it's everywhere, so that part is pretty nuts for sure.
  20. Haha thank you. We went about 4 hours, although I dunno if I could have done it without some chemical relief. I've never taken codeine for getting tattooed, but it was great cause it didn't make me high, just kept me from twitching and made it suck less. I mean it still hurt and sucked but it was doable. Oddly the worst of it was the inside of the lower thigh
