  1. Getting tattooed right now. Butt and thighs day! Although only one cheek, hahaha
  2. Fuuuuck, you guys are killin it!!! @hfs40000 @Boiled Dove @oldmansea
  3. Get small tattoos in small areas of the body so they don't look like they're drowning in a sea of flesh. Or put them between big tattoos.
  4. Yeah man, it's impossible to fully understand until you do it. I think just dealing with people with the utmost professionalism and care is the only way to get anyone to take you seriously. Cause people do take it seriously, and I think in some places more than others, but all you can do is just be a class act and take precautions to not let folks dick you over. Haha and I didn't mean that, threads like that are dumb and there doesn't need to be more than one of those kinds either. Just that every user on LST has a blog under their account and that this site has multiple purposes and other areas where you can make good contributions :) Like this thread to me, reads like a firsthand account of your day, which reads like blogging so I just wanted to be like "hey look! We have that too"
  5. @49531 girl, you have been killing it. I would totally get a tattoo from you, really looking forward to following your career.
  6. Welcome to tattooing, haha. Deposits are definitely crucial for avoiding that situation. Not much you can do with that when the tattoo is free though. Also don't ever sweat taking a deposit from someone, I take deposits from even my friends. Also fuck the people who don't want to pay for your services when you get to the point where you can charge for them. And also for future reference, this thread would have been better as a blog post. It doesn't drum up any real discussion that people here can relate to, mostly because there are like maybe 5 tattooers who still post here? If that?
  7. That was a nice short read. Definitely a dignified introduction to the guy!
  8. Oh no, I got it, I am just supremely lazy about digging up people's info :D
  9. Sat for about 5.5-6 hours of linework yesterday. Fuck me. I do feel like I got out easy, all things considered, but it was a challenge. None of it was particularly easy. Got from the upper-middle back to the top of the butt and around the back of the sides. Newfound respect for everyone who has done this before, newfound compassion toward clients I have previously brutalized, and solidified faith in the fact that you have to be heavily tattooed to be a good tattooer. Dunno if there is anyone else here who is extremely ticklish, but there was nothing I could do to keep myself from flinching every time the needle got to the sides of my waist, I felt like such a jerk. Wasn't even the pain that was a bother, just the heightened sensation of the spot. Um but yeah, if you want to see it, quote here with your instagram.
  10. I think you're safe. Feet take extra long to heal because they are farthest away from the heart and blood oxygenation isn't the best by the time your circulation gets to those parts. I think if you don't have any major scabs, you'll be fine.
  11. I think that the reason that there are so many aftercare products is because everyone and their bro is trying to cash in on the popularity of tattooing, and people like gimmicks so they buy the shit. Really all you need to heal a tattoo is soap, water, and lotion. The only true game changer I've seen is Tegaderm, and I'll swear by that stuff. My boyfriend is a rough healer to the point where it looks like there's a barnacle on his tattoos in the first week, yet nothing falls out. So for him especially, Tegaderm is pretty great.
  12. Throwing in my hat for the Artwork Rebels crew, Oddball, and Alena Chun at Icon :) (Portland)
  13. Man, this is a good discussion! So from the standpoint of a tattooer, tattoos are far more necessity than luxury, if not even investment. Because not only do I need to be heavily tattooed to be taken seriously by both clients and colleagues, but also so that I can relate to people as I am working on them and assure them that I know what they're going through. And even additionally, you learn so much on a technical level from getting tattooed. So the way I see it, I need to keep getting tattooed so that I can be a better tattooer and continue the success of my livelihood. Even at this point, I have so much open space yet I'm in the process of getting one of the largest tattoos a person can get, but even then the need will remain afterward! I think the term luxury is very relative to the individual circumstances. Also, in general, people do not consider the psychological and spiritual merit of goods and services. Does anyone publicly discuss necessity and luxury in terms of what the soul needs? Because we all know how transformative getting tattooed is, and I think many of us on this journey can say that, without a doubt, getting tattooed has improved the overall quality of our lives. Did we not need that, did it not help us learn how to be who we need to be? Perhaps it did, and perhaps it didn't, but the answer to that question will tell you whether your tattoos are a necessity or not.
  14. I may or may not have been powerwatching Buffy the Vampire slayer while drawing at home. God, I love Netflix :D
  15. @Pugilist no problem! Also just for the record, I am not a doctor, have absolutely no medical training, and there is little to no research on the subject published at all. With that being said, I still maintain that the entire situation is a giant cloud of grey area with a lot of suggestion for appropriate action and nothing conclusive to rightfully take a stance one way or another as to whether it is child endangerment to get tattooed while breastfeeding. As a tattooer, to me, it's not worth the risk.
  16. As far as infection and allergic reactions go, I only know what I've researched online and what I've been warned of, so I can't say that I have indisputable facts to lay down here. I'll try to get more info from a doctor friend tomorrow, although I've been doing some digging online and it is remarkably difficult to find any information on the transference of biological or chemical pathogens between the mother and breast milk contents. I have understood that everything that can be found in a mother's blood can also be found in breastmilk, which is why allergic reaction and infection is a liability. Some info on the composition of tattoo pigments and common reactions: Tattoo-associated skin reactions. DermNet NZ Medscape: Medscape Access
  17. Such a weird grey area here. Don't really agree with a court ruling against breastfeeding, really don't agree with the lady getting tattooed while she is breastfeeding. Definitely think it's irresponsible as fuck for the lady to be getting stoned while breastfeeding. Even Hepatitis and HIV aside, possibility of allergic reactions to the pigment and infection can make breastmilk unfit for consumption by an infant, so there's that.
  18. @Mark Bee @Rob I For the Win is a gamer term that came from the advent of mmorpgs and is still used as a term of encouragement and approval among gamers and nerds. Among tattooers and bikers, the term has generally meant Fuck the World. @Pugilist I'm on it!!! Say, it's Wednesday, isn't it... ;D
  19. @OutOfIdeas oops, yeah! Full front graphic, demons and hellfire and whatnot Also, did that image post upside down? u___u
  20. Ask and ye shall receive! @Graeme @OutOfIdeas so glad you guys like the shirt!! Need to do another run on those
