  1. Wondered who else out there might be a roller derby fan. I just started attending bouts in Everett, Washington a bit over a year ago. Most of the players who have been playing a little while seem to have tattoos. Seems like a fun crossover...
  2. I rode a few bikes back in the late 80s/early 90s, started getting back into motorcycles in 2007 because I had a long commute. I have a 2009 Triumph Speed Triple (By the Crowfoot Glacier up in the Canadian Rockies Panoramio - Photos of the World) And a 2010 Tiger 800 XC. Did I mentioned I LOVE me some Triumph? :)
  3. Gorgeous woman + motorcycle : there is no bad here. Nice ink!

    Canadian, eh

Going to have to visit the east coast, some day. I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY and visited the Ontario side a lot but have wanted to see NS for a long time. Sure love me some western Canada: BC, Alberta. Hope to visit the Yukon before long!
  5. Of course, if you're adding their ink to some great ink you already have, you're paying them a compliment...
  6. Go ahead and lose your calm - there is no reason you should be OK with someone bullying you. I can't tell you what the answer is in your case but what I can say is...real men don't bully women.
  7. Thanks! I've always thought wolves are awesome, strong predators but social, pack animals. And canines have a sense of humor....was going for something that's a bit of a predator but not taking itself too seriously. Also, representing family. So, my daughter is a budding artist and I asked her to come up with the logo and she completely designed it. She knew it was for a tattoo but when I actually came home with it inked it kind of wigged her out a bit. But she's getting used to it and talks about possibly designing tattoos or even getting one herself. She rocks. What's the ink in your avi?
  8. If food coma is a problem it's a good thing most shops are probably closed on Thanksgiving (both the October Thanksgiving and the November one). The only poutine I've had so far has been in BC but if I can make it to Quebec I look forward to trying the original recipe! (There's a place in Seattle that has it but I question how real it'll be)
  9. Going back for a visit soon...
  10. Thinking about doing some scientific research about how various foods make your tattoo process better/worse. Phase 1 research will involve poutine.
  11. Thank you for helping to expose the truth about how cats use their financial resources to manipulate our economy!
  12. Gorgeous work on those attached thumbnails!
  13. Thank you! Much appreciated. - - - Updated - - - Excellent - well said! That's an awesome tattoo to commemorate a tremendous achievement.
  14. You have a terrific attitude! Kudos. - - - Updated - - - I think that tattoos have definitely added to my life and been part of a process of changing my life. When you look at most of society, it seems really lame. People seem pathologically risk averse, in a desperate perpetually skeered mission to eliminate all traces of risk from their lives and to force those same choices on other people, which in my opinion is much worse. It'd be so easy, with the economy being screwy and work perpetually stressed, to stay in a constant state of worry. Aside from a great wife and daughter and a good career in programming, the greatest gift I've been given is that I've always enjoyed activities involving managed risk: target shooting, martial arts, motorcycles, climbing. They've given me some ability to turn of fear and just act, rather than joining the herd and being perpetually paralyzed by fear. I see tattoos as another step in that process. I got my first one after I was 50 and, ironically, got laid off from a job I'd hated for a while about a week later. Aside from being a goofy pun, that No Way tattoo was intended as a statement to myself that I wasn't going to follow courses set by other people anymore. I found a better job in about 3 weeks and I think the tattooed symbol of that inner determination helped me hit the ground running hard instead of moping for a while. So yeah, tattoos have become a later part of the process of choosing my own course in life.
  15. Thanks for the welcome, guys.

  17. Good call...I think you're right. I'm wondering what it would be like having a back tattoo, one I couldn't see most of the time... :)

My wife works in a library and I'm imagining how she's react if I suggested she read it: (Here's me desperately trying to wash pepper spray out of my eyes) - - - Updated - - - Not to disrespect your book choices or anything...
  19. So, I started out with two small tattoos high on my shoulders and the word "timshel" on one forearm. Then a larger motorcycle on the other forearm and the maple leaf higher on that arm. So, my left arm doesn't have a lot on it but I was talking with the artist I go to about a larger science fiction scene. He suggested the upper arm but because I want to keep my first tattoo, that won't work well. He also suggested my leg or back for the scifi tattoo and high on the back near the shoulder could be good and easily shown at scifi conventions. We both want to make the scifi one (Firefly ship + planet) REALLY cool... This has me wondering about placement for the future: whether to keep the left arm for travel mementos and such. How the heck do you plan for placement? Especially when you already have a few tattoos?
  20. Interesting. I've taken it easy for a week or so after getting inked because I wondered if the stinging from sweat meant that color could be at risk. I like to keep a regular exercise routine going but don't want to risk compromising a healing tattoo. If y'all are finding it doesn't mess with the coloring, that's great!

Look at the plus side. Someone tough enough to get through several of these books is someone to fear. :)

Harry Crews rocks, I've enjoyed his books for some time. Really bummed to hear that he died 1-2 years ago. I think my favorite book from him was "Body". Of writers currently writing, my favorite is probably Neil Gaiman. "Good Omens", co-written with Terry Pratchett was brilliantly funny and "American Gods" is awesome. In fantasy, "The Name of the Wind" by Rothfuss is excellent. Everything ever written by Ray Bradbury. Thomas Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49" And this book about literary tattoos rocks: link
