  1. The thing that I especially like about people who get tattoos is that they're often people who are staking out their beliefs or things they love and not interested in whether people approve or not. Most of the world is too tentative and perpetually skeered, these days.
  2. I was wondering about the parameters for this. My daughter asked if she could come when I get a Firefly tattoo started and watch part of it. But she's nearly 19 and is thinking about getting one herself some day. She is also interesting in drawing graphic novels and is curious what the tattoo art process is like...
  3. I lucked out because my wife hasn't had any real problems with me getting into tattoos. Though I guess I'm lucky not to put it to the test by wanting something that really puts her off. :)
  4. A salute to my hometown in the US and my other favorite country
  5. Forearm ink of my favorite motorcycle of all time
  6. It's SO amazing - can't wait to go back. Probably not for a couple years but next time I want to stay in Yoho NP for a couple days, hike to Lake O'Hara, do some paddling on Emerald Lake... You meet so many friendly people by being on 2 wheels too. At the Athabasca Glacier, I met a group of 5 who were from New Zealand and were traveling the Coast on Harleys. And met a couple from Saskatoon who are also Triumph fans when I stopped to wait out rain at Rogers Pass.
  7. I've had 6 or 7 motorcycles over the years, presently have 2 modern Triumphs: a Speed Triple and a Tiger 800 XC. Tastes vary but there isn't a bike I'd trade either of these two to get. My favorite thing is to ride the bikes up to BC & the Rockies & blog about it. Even though a cliff near Nelson dropped rocks on one and killed it. Blog.
  8. Awesome! I've got a book with pics from the BTC and hope to stop in to join the club when the fam and I visit the UK next year.
  9. I debated getting a tattoo for quite a while, finally took the plunge a couple years back with a pun on a kanji character. I remember thinking half way through it that I didn't think I'd get more. But by the time I was driving home, I was feeling like I'd earned something and that I had to do it again. I've got tattoos now: Small: - that first one (the "way" character from kendo, crossed out) - the laughing wolf in my avatar (designed by my daughter) - the word "timshel" from East of Eden A little larger: - Triumph Speed Triple motorcycle - a Canadian maple leaf with a buffalo in it (since I grew up on the border in Buffalo, have lots of family on both sides of the border and my favorite thing is riding my motorcycle up into BC & sometimes Alberta. Now talking to my favorite artist about a larger Firefly sci-fi tattoo. Planning to get some while travelling, e.g., joining the Bristol Tattoo Club in England. Looking forward to talking with you all! Don (@donbcivil on Twitter)
  10. How was the Vancouver show? An artist who has done a couple tattoos for me, Sasha King from Dark Horse Tattoo in Edmonds, WA, was going...
