  1. Say good bye to "walk-In's" and conventions. Washington DC is proposing a law requiring a 24 hour "cool off period" before allowing a person to get a tattoo. 24-hour waiting period for tattoos, piercings proposed in District - The Washington Post What's next - background checks?
  2. As a tattooed person and a business person I can say that in quite a few shops I have frequented over the years, the shop owners as well as the other artists do not care for the business end of things. And more than a few shops who have killer artists have gone out of business due to their lack of business acumen. Would it be wrong to become the "money man" behind some of these artists, put "the hard effort" toward the artist and provide them with the best of the best in a building, an atmosphere, equipment, schedulers, and accounting? I think this would take a lot of pressure off some folks who live to tattoo and hate to be in the business of tattooing. Just rattling this off. I don't have the kind of money it would take to undergo such a venture, even though it would be a dream come true.
  3. Late to the party but I caught the rerun. It appeared to me that she had changed her mind about getting a tattoo and was determined to do whatever it took to be told to take a hike.
  4. Dustin Hysell, currently with Fate Tattoo in C-Bus. Home - Tattoos
  5. "Star Fucking"? Now that's a Stones tune that didn't get much air play!
  6. Okay this is going to be one of those "Meaningful Story" tattoo stories. Deal with it. On 26 June, out of nowhere and with no previous symptoms my wife of 34 years had a Grand Mal seizure. On 26 July she had a brain tumor removed. On 30 July we learned that it was malignant and she has an 85% probability that she won't make it 18 months. But she's a fighter. 85% against just means there is a 15% probability she will make it. My wife spent her entire life fucking up the curve and that's not changing anytime soon. She was told that visualization is helpful. Make it a tangible "thing" you can combat. She takes chemo and radiation 5 days a week (for 6 weeks), then has a re-eval. She nicknamed the tumor "DLB" (dirty little bastard). I saw some flash on line and heard a 90's era song, added a little of this and that and the next thing you know I was in the chair. I hope you all like it:
  7. I wouldn't be where I am unless I had been where I've been. You know? I wouldn't go back because then I'd just make a whole new set of mistakes.
  8. I always answer any "isn't that gay" question the same way (as a statement of fact with no judgement intended): "Uh, no. The last time I checked, and correct me if I'm wrong, neither tattoos nor roses are gay. Two people of the same gender having sex together? Now that's gay."
  9. You're going to Hell for that, you know that don't you?
  10. Sorry folks: Leviticus 19:28. But I remember that the King James Version is exactly that, a version of the Bible translated by and for a British King. I don't think that Jesus is going to get bent out of shape over it. At least I hope he'll give me a chance to explain...
  11. With apologies to Sir Elton John... Sa-tur-day Sa-tur-day Sa-tur-day TATTOO DAY!! 12:30 this Saturday I get my boxer girl done. She's a Flapper looking gal wearing a cross and has a gray ribbon tattoo on her bicep. Been over and over the design with the Artist and I'm very eager to see his final rendition. She will either reside on my right forearm or left upper arm, depending on how she flows.
  12. You do know all you can see of the cat is a closed box, right?
  13. I think most of us use it the same way. My wife accused me of being a snob when I said it, so I don't say it anymore. Now mind you, I still think it...;)
  14. Well I quit smoking four years ago and added about 50 pounds of "negative space". Right now I'm more worried about my overall look as a person, period!
  15. I heard the term "plainskins" in the 90's and it probably wasn't original then. My wife gave me Hell for using it, too. She was right. Tattoo or not tattoo are both valid choices. But, the funny shit they say? I was showing a tat to a friend at work and a manager walked up and (like he was invited to the conversation), observed: "You know what I call tattoos? I call 'em a permanent reminder of temporary insanity. HAR-HAR-HAR!!!" and trotted off so happy with his little joke.
  16. In the 90's calling tattoo shops "parlors" seemed to be the big no-no. Izzat still so? And some mornings, there is nothing more enjoyable than a pointless thread...
  17. "White Trash and Ghetto Ass" - Man, there's a song in there somewhere!!!
  18. If you don't mind an Olde Guy comment: That Florida tattoo reminds me so much of the postcards I used to see as a child in the 60's.
  19. Older thread I know but... if you get one negative comment about the desk help it's probably the customer. If you get two negs, it's still maybe the customer but you may want to have a little customer service training session with the desk help. And if you get three - well your guy's a douchebag hipster, whether he knows how to spell or not!
