  1. more work done tonight. next appt is the end of June. The frog is getting redone in this go 'round-he's kinda old (15 years or so I think) so he would look out of place I thought.
  2. I never "got" it really either, until coming here and spending some time. now i'm wanting to add some traditional.
  3. Gorgeous! I have three peonies and hopefully more soon!
  4. a peony and waves, a part of my baby-sleeve.
  5. have you posted pics of your peonies? I'd love to see them-they're one of my favorite flowers!
  6. Ehhh I think I'm just kinda a spaz. I fell like w/so much color and design on me that having solid color tops allows them to be the center of attention I guess? Like I say, I'm a spaz and freak out about things that probably nobody else is paying attention to on me. The mermaid...I'd seen a drawing that was super frilly and foo foo pretty, but I'm debating whether that is "me" or not. The traditional I've been looking at are mainly sparrows and lady heads. Kinda in the limbo stage of figuring out exactly what to get/where to put it.
  7. I think about color on my skin too. And now that I have quite a bit on my arms, I feel fussy when I'm trying to find a shirt that will show the work...I don't want something w/pattern and I don't want anything w/colors that don't go w/the colors in my tattoos. My issue now is trying to figure out how to mesh things that I like...I want to add some traditional..but yet for some reason I'm wanting a mermaid too. Trying to find places for things and have them harmonize together is hard.
  8. hahahaha oops I totally didn't click the wrong button so I just thanked myself. I meant to thank you! @GlaryMilberg
  9. That would be great, thanks! We were supposed to be getting an actual interpreter for him next year and now the person has changed her mind. It was asked to me today if I would consider taking some immersion classes at the School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs this summer if there are any available and I said of course! I don't know if it will pan out, if the school district will pay for it or not-we can't afford to do it ourselves I'm guessing, tho I don't know how much the classes would cost, the school is 2.5 hours away so I'd have to stay there someplace for however long, not drive every morning and night. Our homework for tonight's class was to sign a recipe. I made scrambled eggs. Next weeks is to sign a children's song so we're doing Five Little Ducks. I try to sign along to songs on the radio and I'm pretty sure people driving by think I'm having a stroke or a seizure. We found out last week that depending even on the state you're in, there are regional differences for sign as well. Our instructor said she was in another state for a conference and was asked where she was from and she signed....something, I forget what, I think just IA for Iowa and the lady signed that where they are from, they would spell Iowa but they do it in a certain way, like I then move to the right a little, O, then down, W, down again, A. But of course crazy insane fast and fluid and beautifully. She said no matter where you go, the deaf person is always right, so that was good to learn! And I totally agree, it would've made for a great universal language.
  10. We started up sign language classes again, on the 4th of 8 sessions this time, and we did 6 last time. Getting better and better w/the short sentences I have to sign at work w/my little guy. I sign to my kids and husband too...husband isn't impressed. But whatever, I'm impressed w/myself so who cares.
  11. That tattoo above is gorgeous. Pretty sure I'm the only one on here who likes word tattoos..I'd not go for multiple lines/paragraph style or anything, but a few words looks nice to me. Sometimes words are the only way to convey something. I see a picture of a guy in black running across the sand and a guy in a cowboy hat behind him, but reading "the man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed" puts a specific picture in my head that is only mine, and everyone else reading it gets a different picture in their head. A picture doesn't change according to the viewer. That's my mind on it anyway.
  12. I almost don't even want to come look at the new pictures-there's so pretty and I want to get one--even tho my husband *hates* the idea.
  13. My kids like to do tons of temporary ones, our son in particular will put 70 all over his body and then strut around w/no shirt on in the summer. I can see him getting one when he's older. Our daughter...she's a wuss about pain. Like good gawd freak out if there's a needle involved, even if it's not for her. She asked a while back if it hurts to get a tattoo, I said yes. She asked why I do it. I said b/c I want them, and if you want something and it hurts, and you don't do it/get it, then you don't really want it. Having kids hurts, so if I couldn't handle hours and hours...and hours and hours of insane labor only to end up w/a C section-how would I have had her? "Ohhhhh..it hurts to have a baby?" YES. So you need to be SURE what you want to do, ha! They have to wait till they're 18 here, and I would make sure to talk w/them a lot about what they might want. I don't have a problem w/text, so long as it's not an entire book, one line of text isn't awful. I've got a line of text I've thought about. And just b/c *I* don't like something doesn't mean someone else isn't thrilled w/it, even if 5000 other people have the exact same thing b/c they saw it on pinterest. I'm not about to put down someone else's work.
  14. My husband always points out when he sees women w/sleeves or half sleeves-he likes it and he knows I do too. It's very..I don't know, I find it sensual and beautiful. This is what I have so far. The cherry blossom side is going to be added to-more flowers and wind bars. It will go around the upper arm and then up across my upper back to meet the water piece on the other side. Frog will be redone and incorporated into everything. Maybe add another frog in there someplace, who knows. If I thought the school district could handle them down to my elbow I would go that far at least. And it's not that much farther, but still, better to not push it. If my husband's business takes off and I can quit-full sleeves!
  15. I really enjoyed the first three seasons, so hopefully season 4 is good too. Season 3 I thought was more..."fun" if you can call it that, rather than scary. Not that the other two seasons were actually scary, there just was a bit of humor in season 3. I wish FX would repeat the 4th season argh!
  16. We watch Walking Dead, Bar Rescue and the Alaska home buying shows. I didn't get AHS onto the dvr in time so I only have 4 episodes from season 4 so I'm waiting for it to either get to netflix or for them to be rerun.
  17. I think it would look nicer, more complete, if I did the armpit too but yeeeeeeeahhhhhhno. I don't like to take breaks b/c then it feels worse to me when we start again. I'll just have to be incomplete I guess cuz there shall be no armpit tattoos. I agree, those people have to be on a whole new level for sure!
  18. The underside of my arm, the closer to the armpit the worse it felt. I'd like to be a big girl and do it up right but um..not gonna happen. All the places suck but ugh Sunday when he was working on my peony was tender!
  19. I guess I figure sometimes no matter how much research you do, how much time you spend working on a design, how much you trust the artist, it doesn't turn out the way you thought it would. I don't see the big deal in a situation like that "erasing" the outcome and going in a different direction. Sometimes your stupidity as a newly able to be tattooed 18 year old isn't what you're feeling as a grown 40 year old. I'd rather use a cream like that than sit thru laser b/c I made a mistake or it didn't turn out right, or a cover up wouldn't be possible. My feet aren't completely covered and I can't tell you how irritated that makes me. So, now rather than be proud of my tattoos there, I'd rather wear socks and shoes. I don't see it as an "easy" way out, and I don't see a lot of people running out to spend a lot of money to get a tattoo only to turn around and take it off after two days. And I guess if they do, well, they can just be dumb and waste their money.
  20. Interesting! Is it for a college class? My husband traps, and we make and sell our own snares. It's not every day I see fur bearer pictures on forums so I'm curious! I got a new car. It looks like Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon and I love that. Doing a second 6 class session of sign language classes that will start the end of this month. My husband is FINALLY going to take me on vacation next year during spring break so that's exciting...buuuut this means I need to get my ass back in shape...which is less exciting.
  21. My initial two second reaction was aww.....wait... I love my kids. I wouldn't do that. What would they have done if their child had been born w/Down Syndrome...or missing a limb...or dwarfism? I had a coworker whose son tipped over a candle and ended up w/horrendous burns over quite a bit of his body..so to make him feel accepted by others...they what..should set themselves on fire? I don't get it. Seems more about the parents, look what we did out of love for our child..which strikes me that A. birthmarks will ruin your life and the entire world is completely unaccepting of everyone everywhere. And B. tattoos are the equivalent of "ruining" your body. I'll stick to teaching my kids empathy and compassion for others and "different, not less".
  22. Got the peony on the inside done last night. The color is more like the first picture. That was the last part of the cover up. I have two more appointments to do who knows what. Expand the peony/water theme across the top of my back and around the frog that's back there, and add to the cherry blossoms on the other side, peonies and other flowers and wind bars. Whatever we figure out. He also added a little white around some of the cherry blossoms and outlined the blue peony again in some spots.
  23. oooo I love frogs! I have a purple tree frog...he is getting fancied up tho shortly, and I'd like to add another one or two.
  24. Was supposed to get more work done on the 9th. Made the appt back in November. Buuut nobody called to let us know that they weren't actually going to be open b/c they were hosting a tattoo convention that week. So. Now we're set for the 2nd of March.
  25. I have a bunch of cherry blossoms, from two different artists, and a few different peonies from two different artists. I will get more flowers for sure.
