  1. Interesting! JD needs to have an old tattoo treated so he can cover it up.
  2. Argh, we still have until Feb 9th before we get our next sessions. I'd like to try and get more work done again during spring break for the district, but jeez, that's about a month later, and I don't know how tender the skin would be. Would be nice to maybe do some work on the opposite side, if the guy who did that work was going to be back this way.
  3. My parents don't really care for mine. Mine keep getting bigger, and their eyebrows keep raising higher. The last time I went to get my 1/2 sleeve worked on, my mom came w/me to drive me home, so she watched. I figured she'd read the whole time, but she spent quite a bit of time watching and asking the artist questions. That went quite a ways toward a bit more acceptance. She was quite animated when telling Dad about it...so it could be that he goes at some point to watch too. He sends me emails now and again about making sure things are sterile, and I just roll my eyes and delete, knowing he's doing it out of love and concern. I think mom was expecting like..a filthy dirty back alley syringes tossed onto the floor hookers in the next room kinda place-and when we walked in she pretty much stopped short and said "Woah" Heavily tattooed men, some pierced, some w/big gauges--super polite, very professional. That goes a long way. I'm not sure what the answer is. Let your character speak for itself. If mom thinks tattoos are trashy, your actions will belie that thought, eventually, in her mind.
  4. Took 6 one hour sign language classes, had a blast. She planned on having a follow up class tonight to rehash things, ask questions etc, and I had to take a muscle relaxer for a headache and felt too "drunk" to go. it's fun tho, I wish I had more need to use it throughout the day so I could get better/faster at it. My husband is probably going to be the new drug dog handler for the police department, so that's kind of exciting for him. He started a business this past summer and it is doing pretty well for being new. I turned 40 last week. Got a super blonde almost-pixie cut and new funky glasses to celebrate.
  5. I couldn't get in with Dominic at Big Brain until February 8th. Sad. They gave me the full four hour time slot so we can either finish what's left under my arm and maybe see what else can be drawn/outlined to expand the piece up and around the back of my shoulder, or just start w/that and work on doing all the outlining/shading first for the entire area before going back in to color. Whatever works best for him. I'd hoped to be able to get in to him over Christmas break, and then again at Spring break, and in between times see Timm McKenny at Best of the Midwest convention, who did all my cherry blossoms for more work on that side. aaaand that idea totally failed.
  6. Hopefully get to take a basic sign language course. just one hour/week for 6 weeks but if it goes well she'll add another 6 weeks. We have a hearing impaired student starting at preschool and our lead teacher is the only one who knows sign, so the other three of us in the room are going to learn as well. I will have to learn more as they're going to make me his one on one, so I will need to work more closely with him. Just kinda fun...sign is something I've wanted to learn since middle school and living clear out in the boonies we're kinda limited other than trying to teach yourself from a book or youtube.
  7. Thank you! Started peeling today, just in time for our first day back to school, so I'm all ruffly.
  8. Thanks guys! @BrookR70--the outline and shading were done in May, so that part didn't need to be done. I *wish* we'd been able to get all that done at once! - - - Updated - - - Oh and that blue peony was done last Winter, so that was there also.
  9. Thanks Mike and Vanessa! got more work done last night so thought I'd add the pictures here too, since it goes w/the thread.
  10. 3.5 hours last night. One more short session to finish, but I plan on expanding it so who knows how long it will take to be completely done. My mom took me last night b/c my husband was on duty for a summer "fest" our little town started putting on...this year Florida Georgia Line is here so last night there were over 16,000 people out at the fields...our town is maybe 5,000 population. Mom seemed pretty fascinated by the whole process, and really enjoyed visiting w/the artist. I'm quite certain she didn't expect the shop to be as nice as it is, and didn't expect the artist to be as friendly and talkative as he is. Not sure I can ever get it into her head to get a tattoo but it would be cool...maybe when I get my tree frog reworked she'll be more on board w/it.
  11. Well, I started the thread a while back b/c I was uncertain exactly what I wanted, and even tho I thought I'd made a mistake w/it, it's turning out perfectly in the end. So much so in fact, that I'm going to extend the work I'm having done to incorporate an existing tattoo-tho that tattoo will have to be reworked. And it will all then blend in with work I had done a couple years ago. So, it's worked out pretty good! The artists have been receptive to "Um...i dunno..I like flowers, will flowers work? Whatever you think, go ahead and do it"
  12. I go back Friday to hopefully finish what we started in May! We will discuss extending it up across the back of the shoulder to the middle of the back of the neck. Excited.
  13. I love those. I love the...what's the word I'm looking for...dichotomy (?) of the tattoos and fancy dresses. Like the pins I've seen on pinterest of tattooed disney princesses.
  14. We turned part of our attached front garage into a shop for my husband's animal trapping business, the rest is going to be a kitchen expansion. Not gonna get rich off it but will be nice to have a little extra coming in. If anyone is interested in landscaping, we think our yard is pretty awesome! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10202913527934120.1073741835.1080491738&type=1&l=b84e3bfd3d
  15. Husband got this part of his done yesterday. He plans to continue it down to the elbow, and maybe a little more on the back, not sure. He got the first part done in May, pics back several pages. I don't get to go back until next month so I had to sit there and be sad. - - - Updated - - - Oh, and Josh at Big Brain in Omaha, NE is doing the work on husbands.
  16. Oh that does sound easy! I shall try that, thanks! Is that stain something available at stores like Target, Walmart etc? She's not that far away, I could probably slip over and have her to it. We're going to get more work on my husbands tattoo today so I'll actually be trying to do my hair today and can see if this is going to work or not. I am hair-styling challenged...usually I end up shaking my fists at my reflection and screeching and then pull it back in one of those teeny pinchy clips.
  17. I want to see the white and blue hair toooooo! I went from my natural blonde to a strawberry blonde/auburn and chopped it off almost pixie-ish a couple days ago. She put a big blonde streak in my bangs, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I wish it had been purple or something fun now.
  18. guy at the newspaper did this of my daughter. Going to see if I can get the negative of it to make a poster to hang in her room. Finished our eight performances yesterday, and we got so much positive feedback. Several people came more than once, some came almost every night. The last four shows were all sold out.
  19. Thanks! I'm super happy w/it and dying to get this part finished. It will at some point continue up around the frog to the center of the back/neck there. Frog & leaf will probably have to be redone/touched up.
  20. Thanks! Timm McKenny did the peony. He is now at Sink or Swim Tattoo in KC, Missouri. Forgot I had this thread. Am working on the cover up. I already posted these in the latest tattoo thread but they fit here too. Dom at Big Brain in Omaha, Nebraska is doing it. More work gets done in August.
  21. That's how I run too. Walk-jog. I save all the funny running pictures on pinterest b/c they're so fitting. (like "if you want to go running w/me you better be prepared to walk a lot")
  22. Four days of Les Mis performances down. Four left to go. Daughter is doing wonderfully as Little Cosette and makes me teary every time, I'm so proud. Meeting new people, making new friends, coming out of my shell a little bit. I must be doing ok, I've not been told any differently.
  23. I'm sorry about Molly, @SeeSea.
  24. Ooo a mango tree! We have plain old trees that just shed these seed things that look like long caterpillars. And then seed things that spin around like helicopters. Aaaand then some other stupid thing they shed. Every time the wind blows. I wish we'd at least get some kick ass fruit out of it. Stupid trees. We are redoing some of our landscaping, which isn't probably awesome to some, but it is to us b/c we pride ourselves on our abilities in the yard. Aaaaand we've got two weeks before the play opens and it's a bit scary. A big production for a small community. I'm meeting new people and trying to come out of my shell but holy moly, maybe Les Mis wasn't the best choice for my first foray into theater-as-therapy hahahaha.
