    Listen to her. If you start following a bunch of good artists you'll start noticing the difference between the good and the bad and you'll have a better eye for reviewing portfolios in the future. Plus lots of cool pictures of tattoos to look at.

    Some of the guys in Kuniyoshi's Suikoden prints have bellies and they all look bad ass. So why am I going to the gym everyday? Think I'll head to the ice cream isle today instead. And I can't wait to see your back colored, @Cork. Same for a lot of you who have posted your backs.

    I had to check out the clips on spike's website from the last episode since they were doing Asian tattoos and tatu baby's lion being an actual lion makes me cringe and laugh out loud in equal parts. I'm going to have to watch the whole thing when it's available and admit to myself that as awesome as I think tattoos are I also love horrible tattoos (on other people) because they're often funny.

    Holy crap. When contemplating back pieces Monju Bosatsu on a shishi was one of the things I thought would be awesome to get and this is more evidence that I'm right. - - - Updated - - - And while I'm here posting, this is also fantastic.

    In this case does "typographical" refer to lettering that is stylistically made to look like type? I've seen some that looks good, but I've always gotten the impression that it was hand drawn in order to look like a type font yet still sit well on the body. The majority of the text that I see that looks awful is clearly just printed straight from MS Word and tattooed on as is.

    This is way worse than her tattoo comment. I mean not caring for tattoos is still a common enough sentiment and the occasional disapproval is part of the fun (for me at least). But this comment is just dickish for no other reason than trying to show how much better her sons are, and therefore she is, than you.

    Another reason they are popular is that people won't listen to good, freely given advice: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-designs-books-flash/4414-do-you-like-these-tattoos.html I was hoping he and his wife would be steered in a good direction after he asked for advice in the thread about color on dark skin, but apparently not, and instead of trying to figure out why other people think what he posted was bad when he though it was good he had to act like a douche and get banned. And now his very pretty wife is going to en up with a shitty tattoo when she doesn't have to.

    Really this is the only answer. We can give opinions and post examples and the artists here can give expert opinions, but talking to someone in person will give you a better answer. Find out who the good artists are in your travel range, whatever that may be, and talk to some. Just don't settle for a mediocre artist just because they have experience with darker skin. She should get the best work possible.

    I'm kind of feeling the opposite feeling now in that seeing places where I want more work me a little blue because I can't just run out and get it right now. Also the back piece thread is making me a jealous.
