  1. Let me add this dynamic to the whole conversation I started......

Over the years....30 of them now....I have had to deal with the judgement of others....and have endured true discrimination at places I have worked....and "circles" I have traveled in! Even my kids paid the price a little because other parents didn't want their kids going to "their house....their parents are tattooed" LOL

It was fine because I look back now and see how far I have come compared to most of those people and I am far better off than they are on just about every level as are my kids! ;)

    Here is my point though......

I made the conscious decision to alter my body at the time in a way I KNEW was not accepted by the society around me and as fucked up as this may sound.....I never blamed society for their ignorance or the discrimination!

I took what they threw at me and turned their garbage into my gold!

Yeah....I had to work twice as hard to get where I am in life....but it made me a much stronger person!

My point being is.....people can cry about discrimination all they want.....BUT it's not like they were born deformed or a certain race....sex...genetic factor.....or some other thing beyond their control! WE have chosen this....knowing inside there are people who do not agree with us....and full on knowing that there could be some backlash for doing it!

So me personally......I have never taken it too personally when people have placed discrimination upon me! Is it ever right? Hello No!!!

But I personally do accept some responsibility only because I knew society wasn't going to agree with all of my decisions!

Much like @TatsNCats......I just never gave a shit....LOL

  2. Coming to the city is too far for him.

He had mentioned..... "If that is absolutely the way to go i would be willing to do it though."

Just thought I'd throw those suggestions out! On weekdays at the right time those two places aren't too bad to get to and find parking.......at least that's been my experience!

Perfetto's shop isn't too far from the subway....maybe like 4-5 big blocks I think....I know I walked up that way while I was waiting to be tattooed...

  3. Oh boy, that's not near Read Street at all. The sessions are normally 4 hours.

I'll try to come down that Monday in May!

I wouldn;t be down at least until 7....so a 4 hour session gives us plenty of time to make it down!

  4. @Bunny Switchblade @irezumi

Being that I travel to Read Street every 3rd Monday or so, I'd love to meet you guys. Irezumi, I'd be very interested to know when/where you'll be guest spotting. Might not be able to finagle a tattoo, but I'd enjoy shaking your hand. Bunny, I know you've said it before, but where do you work? My next appointment with Dana is May 13th at 5. Is your shop close to Read Street? I could take a side trip and stop by and introduce myself. And yes Dana is working the convention, he said he was fully booked up except for 1 slot as of Monday.

I am no where near as deep in the world as you guys are, so I can hardly appreciate what's going down here. I don't mean to derail the thread.

I work at Gemini Tattoo in Odenton, MD (right across from Ft Meade Army base) but I am still in the apprentice stage! I am there a few evenings a week and all day on Saturday!

My mentor wanted me to keep my daytime job in DC....so I essentially work two full time jobs between my daytime job and the tattoo shop plus the "homework" and the painting and drawing I need to have done each week! I've had this crazy schedule for 17 months no....LOL

It's very possible that my Hubby and I could hop the subway one Monday when you are being tattooed and make the short walk over to Read Street!

How long are your sessions usually with Dana?

  5. I really don't post up online too much of the things I have.....but I thought I would share this with everyone since it really is pretty cool!

Tux and Dennis did have some business with each other......not 100% sure what happened but that is another story...LOL

Since there seems to be a Maryland tattoo history undertone to this thread I will share my door......

  6. @irezumi.......I will probably see Dana this weekend at the Baltimore Convention if I go down on Sunday! I think he'll be in the Read Street Tattoo booth......

Not sure if I really even want to go down or not BUT feel I should go down out of respect for some of my friends that will be there! Especially the ones getting up there in age! ;)

Not trying to drop any names....LOL

  7. I don't think it's a relationship-ender for him, honestly...he has known that I'm pretty much going to do what I want to for a while now

    That's good to hear!

I know several couples who have totally different interests and seem to go off in their own separate directions to pursue those interests who have very strong, loving, and long term relationships! :)

  8. Yeah I think that's fair to say. We did met on school grounds so that connection was made before walking into the shop.

You answered a question i was thinking about asking privately @irezumi!

I wonder how many people know that Tux actually took classes at MICA? :)

Unfortunately.....when we were grabbing things out of Charlie's before the sale to the new owner.....there was some original hand drawn flash that Tux had done during his time spent with Dennis that we did not realize was in the lower racks! It went with the sale......although I am going to try to get some of it back at some point if it is ever for sale!

I photographed just about everything in the place before the sale except what was in the standing racks......never thought they might contain hand drawn flash.....and I certainly had never noticed it! UGH

  9. I asked him to tell me if he genuinely found it unattractive and he said it was "fine." Which is not a great word to use in discussions about your relationship.

I never really thought about being as heavily covered as I am......so make sure he really is okay with it doll just in case you decide you want to add more and more in the future!

There are plenty of people who are totally fine with tattoos BUT it just isn't for them.....and that is totally cool as long as they don't try to stop you from being who you really are..... :)

  10. Welcome!

For NJ, I would recommend Electric Tattoo in Bradley Beach, NJ. .

This is an excellent suggestion honestly.......as well as Mike Shishmanian!

Or you could go down to Brooklyn and be tattooed by Mike Perfetto....he has been there since the mid 70's....plus it's an experience.....first come/first served!

Smith Street in Brooklyn is another awesome option......everyone there does excellent work!

Sorry if this has already been said in this thread.....

  11. That wasn't one of the Crazy John's locations, was it?

Crazy John's is still across the street a half a block up........but it could have been owned by them....obviously @irezumi will know!

Awesome Chicken Cheese Steaks......I had one about two weeks ago....he he he

I am interested though......how old were you when you worked there Irezumi? And....did you venture up the stairs much to see Dennis and crew? I know you're younger than me so I'm guessing it's highly unlikely you ever met Charlie.....

  12. I've been informed by family members that I am less likely to find someone to marry if I keep getting tattoos. There's so much I could say to this, but I don't. Ignorance begets ignorance.

And when plain-skinned men want to check out my work, they have this thing where they try to hold my arm or touch my leg as they inspect it. No, no touchy, just looky.

Just tell them that this may be true......I mean who really does know?

BUT tell them....the person you do find will have less of a problem with you being the person you really are! ;)

  13. I do my best to offend as many people as possible with my tattoos.........

But in all seriousness.....I am sure I do have some tattoos that would be offensive to a lot of different people or groups!

I really never intentionally had myself tattooed to offend anyone but more so because I generally don't care what people think of me or my tattoos! If I thought it was a good idea at the time I did it.......and have no regrets about any of my tattoos!

  14. @smiling.politely Thanks...I was afraid of that. I'm glad I asked here before asking the artist.

Actually....you should really ask your artist first.....because they would or should be able to tell you the answer....or be able to offer a fix that you might be able to live with better!

the artist who did your tattoo should always be your first go to.....unless it was a negative experience maybe.....
