Hey all - it's been a long time!  Between having a baby and surprise global pandemic, I took a 3 year tattoo hiatus.  You can imagine I was very excited to put an end to that extended break this past weekend with this piece by Steve Flores at Spiral Tattoo in Ann Arbor, MI.  Knee ditch butterfly:

I was really nervous about how I was going to heal this spot with a toddler running around.  I haven't bent my leg more than 45 degrees in 5 days, so we'll see how it turns out. 😛

it all looks great ! you're a tough girl to have that knee ditch done, good job.  very nice !

Thank you mate! Just didn’t want one looking jet black compared to the one that has gone grey…

what’s your view on patchwork sleeves? I am thinking of getting main pieces and then filling in the gaps with fillers. Should I do the fillers at the end or as I go along?

a lot of people like to do one cohesive style sleeve, I didn't go that route,

my arms are lots of pieces over the years, just do you makes you happy that month.

    Hi all

so I got a new tattoo by another artists to my forearm. The Buddha one is a year old and the flowers and eye is 3 days old.
can someone reassure me that they will blend colour wise?

in just getting worried Incase they don’t

they both look black & gray, the new one will settle in and should look similar to the old one.Like was said,3 days is too soon to be healed.

tattoos take a few months to heal and longer to "settle in",

  4. once a tattoo is healed the sun will not hurt it,

that being said, keeping yourself protected from the sun is a life long thing, skin cancer is a real concern, so sunblock if you will be in a hot sun for a while, etc etc, UV protection is also ongoing, just good practice to shield your skin form the sun, but it will not damage a healed tattoo.

OK, I know there are tons of advises why it is a bad idea to get the first (in my case probably only) tattoo on fingers. I have thought quite a while about it and have taken in account all things about social/employment and pain related.

Yeah it is the ring finger because I'm married (long time, btw)

So the remaining questions so far:

As to the fading caused by sunlight I read two different things

    a) fades fast and certainly when exposed before healing and some time after

    b) fades in any case just slower, if kept out of sunlight first weeks

So plan is to get the tattoo in the beginning of the dark time of the year, where I can manage to have it covered some weeks and also haven't much craftmenship in that season

And I have a bit of difficulties on how to find the right studio (not much artwork to do, it's just 2 letters in a fictional language).

But I may be to stupid to do my internet search (again) or it is sparse in my region (Germany, Wolfsburg-Brunswick-Hildesheim-Hannover). Or it is hard to find someone experienced in works on fingers without personal contact.

I have a recommendation for Berlin, but I'd like to have someone more closely to where I travel regularly, because of the expected touch-ups.

    I hope I didn't miss something obvious…

or some wrote some other stupid things, I could have figured out myself.

the top half of fingers keeps ink pretty well, the palm side not so well, I just got my wedding ring on the top half for that reason, I got this on my ring finger and all of the first knuckle about 5 or 6 years ago and they have held up good IMO, the one love ones are a little newer, and after the tattoo is healed, don't worry about the sun.

life is short, get the tattoo.

Confused as to what you mean ?

I wonder if it's possible for the laser removal treatment just to focus on parts of the "M" which are too narrow. Therefore making it more readable ?

I'm pretty sure he means what we all feel, we have had enough of this thread,

it's a fucked up tattoo by a scratcher and there is nothing that can be done to fix it,

THERE ! that's it !   now let's move on from this.

Here's an update at around 20 hours. The outline took 3 sessions to finish, around 10 hours (so. many. lines.). But we've been making steady progress with relatively short appointments every 2-3 weeks, and the cover up is almost done. I'm loving the wildflower color palette and all the little creatures peeking out here and there.

    WOW  !! super nice ! !

Although I have a car, I primarily ride my motorcycle. The artist about 2.5 hrs from me. The tatt will be on inner forearm. I have a riding shirt that will keep off the sun and there's not too much flapping against my arms but yes there will be some.

I figure the artist will wrap it right? So no problems on the bike home? Thanks

no, not at all (and like you said covered from the sun), as long as it's wrapped good,

and have you considered a dermal film like Saniderm.com  ? or a similar product ?  check it out, the stuff is pretty cool.

Hi everyone! As a Black woman who just got my first major back piece I could not find any resources to how to properly take care of my tattoo. I love shark tank, and also saw this product called Mad Rabbit on Instagram. I only really saw caucasian people on the advertisements, so I was worried it may not work the best for dark skin. I was hesitant at first, but I love this cream and it smells so good. I like earthy scents so I always get cucumber but it comes in a variety of scents.

I looked around for a coupon code, and this gave me 15% off, TATSBYAR and I think it still works. I hope someone out there finds this helpful!

so let's see a ral pic of your tattoo !   I call foul, and guess that you don't even have a single tattoo.

I've got a new negative space tattoo and it looks awesome. One part is bothering me though, the line you can see i've pointed to is thinner than i'd like. Would it be possible to get some light brown ink ( to match my skin colour ) and widen it a tiny bit once it's healed ?

It's " olde english " and i've attached a picture of roughly what it's supposed to look like.

I know for now it's probably OK but over time as we all know, text can smudge and blur abit, potentially making the line invisible.

The other thing is, I could just leave it, and in future fill the letters in red, so it's red and black.

    font.png

As you can see, the " A " on the left has a thicker line, wheras on the right it's thinner

I would leave it alone,  and if you don't want to leave it alone, ask the tattooer that did it.
