Okay, I have had my first comment about my visible tattoo and I laughed at her. I had a mother at school pick-up say to me "you know that's permanent, right?" to which she got me saying sarcastically "No? Really? Oh shit!" and rolled eyes. That was closely followed by her muttering "I think tattoos are disgusting".

For now it's a case of looking at a body part and thinking "that spot looks naked"! For example I was sitting down the other day and just happened to glace at my feet. For some reason my right foot looks naked right now. I'm sure once that's done my left foot will need something.

Im using H2Ocean this time around and it's freaking amazing. I'm on day 6 and little to no scabbing. It was suggested to a friend a couple of years back and I figured being in a dryer climate I need a little extra to seal all the moisture in. Last tatt I was getting up at 3am because I woke up feeling like my surrounding skin was going to tear open but My feet are going great. I was expecting my feet to be way scabbier as I'm always running around after my kids.

Didn't notice it until you pointed it out...now it's ALL I CAN SEE!

I was just looking into some SPF 50 sunscreen and it's not really widely marketed in Australia. Given that I'm in Western Oz and there is A LOT of sun here, applying sunscreen and a hat is way of life... Well, if you're smart anyway... Australia only got the announcement in December that SPF 50 was approved and apparently it's only 1.4% better protection and that's only if people apply it the same as SPF 30. Just a reminder people :)

For what it's worth, I know some people who've reported excruciating pain on their feet and said the whole story about having to wear slippers instead of shoes for a few days, yada yada yada. I, on the other hand, was able to loosen the laces on my vans for a few days and that was that. I didn't think they hurt worse than my shins, which was barely at all. So, hopefully yours go more along those lines.

This! I've been wondering the same thing. That's the main reason I haven't done my feet yet.

What did you go about in the way of footwear during healing? More than the actual pain of the tattoo itself, the healing process is what I'd be stumped on.

I planned my feet just before a 3-day weekend. That way, I was able to lounge around the house barefeet and wear some flip-flops when I did have to go out.

If you think that $100 an hour for a good artist is too much, think how much it will cost to cover up a cheap artist's work!
Seriously though, this will be on you for the rest of your life; if your primary concern is cost, then you should re-think getting a tattoo.

I don't know if this helps at all but my first tattoo that I got 22 yrs ago is red and black. I guess the tone was basic red...like a "red" crayola crayon, not super dark. Anyway, the color stayed and didn't turn pink. The tattoo has blurred & faded a little, but the red part is still red today. No idea what type of ink was used, just wanted to let you know red can last!

I've gone with a red-orange that tends to last longer on me. You may be better with the darker red as well. Red and yellow are problem colors for me always, they tend to wash out faster than any other color.
I am in the sun a lot and use a sun block, but time takes its toll when you're outside all summer. Tattooed people I know that have fair skin and don't get much sun exposure, their ink seems to be sharp and has great color forever.
