  1. My plan is to get a tattoo on my right forearm of the family crest from my mothers family (she passed away in June)

I also would like to add more imagery around it. Ideas?

Looking for the artist that can make it happen. Ideas?

I am willing to travel once I am committed.

My sister thinks I should have it done in Japan. (I'll be visiting there in a year or so.)

  2. Just framed in two widows on our building:

so now it's whiskey, beer, plus legal recreational weed, :D

and having an all American meal ;)

ribs, sashimi (raw tuna), grilled salmon, rice, nori, salad, pickles, chips, dip, etc.

later fireworks @ the local fairgrounds while listening to folks firing guns through the night........

  3. There's a lot being said, Freddy is way down to earth. My wife and me just spent 2 days in may with him at temple tattoo. It was a very good hanging out. I grew up in Oakland and know it very well, Freddy truly loves Oakland. He has a good crew too.

there is so much going on in this 20 minute segment. I love the world he talks about, and the digs he takes at things exploiting the culture. This was a great post, thanks for sharing it
  4. I would say it depends on the tattooist and the tattooed.

We never had an issue. I've always felt I was treated more than fair.

Doing our first wedding tattoos with Dan, I think we asked just to get a clue.

There was nothing weird asking. It is a matter of comfort.

If you don't feel comfortable asking, you should probably leave.

Getting the 25th anniversary tattoos, I didn't ask at all. I assumed it was going to be pricey.

It was less than I thought, and it was less than the time spent by the hour.

We were there 7 to 8 hours total and got charged for 4.

Though as Freddy said "he had fun". I want to go back to just hang out.

We were honored he took the job and I think he was honored to keep the continuity.

Back to this: It depends on the tattooist and the tattooed.

  5. Thank you, It's fun to share.

The level of appreciation here is why I joined.

I mostly lurk, but it has been fun posting.

Most uninked folks don't quite get it.

Love this story, and those tattoos are so great - can't get over how good that dragon is! Thanks for sharing with us.

That was Freddy's third ear tattoo in thirty years.

@PopsBdog loving it :) love the ear tattoo

I'll do another post of photos after they heal.

  6. Freddy was like hanging out with an old friend. What a cool person.

His interpretation of my dragon guitar and tying it and the XXV into the original Higg's tattoo. Wow.

Every body in the shop was way cool. Always busy, at one moment there was the buzzing of 5 machines going.

We both are very happy with our tattoos. They are everything we hoped for.:D

I'm already imagining more ink. We don't know if we can wait for the next major anniversary...;)

And a bonus Seth in the background. Looks great, I am stoked it worked out so well for both of you.
    @PopsBdog I fucking love yours :) very pretty x
  7. Here it comes. The session with Freddy was awesome.

    We started here.

The original tattoo by Daniel from 25 years ago.

We put an XXV for "25 years" with it.

This is the image what we worked from for the dragon.

The guitar body and pick guard was done by Antonio Tsai.

He is a inlay artist based in Vietnam.

  8. Sweet, Now that is a great idea. We both like it. Nothing is set in skin yet. It will be in the discussion.

Congrats on your silver wedding anniversary :) What about adding Ag into the tattoo? (Ag being Silver on the periodic table). It's just a thought.

Look forward to seeing the finished piece :)

  9. Heading to Oakland, California to see Freddy Corbin at Temple tattoo to get inked for our 25th wedding anniversary.

    Appointment is noon, Tuesday.

Daniel Higgs did the original wedding tattoos at Realistic Studio in San Francisco and Freddy was in the shop watching and making comments while he was doing us. Daniel doesn't do tattoos any more. So our first choice is Freddy to keep spiritual continuity.

The wife and me are getting a "25-XXV added somewhere . I am also getting a "Dragon" mixed into it...

I'll keep you up to date.

  11. That Salinger documentary was great, and Raise High the Roofbeams is probably my favorite. I need to do some revisiting sooner than later, but for right now I'm going to read the three unpublished stories that leaked around Thanksgiving time.

Read These 3 Unpublished JD Salinger Stories That Just Leaked Online (follow the first link there...)

Sweet, Something new to read. I haven't read Salinger in over 20 years. Too bad it can't be downloaded to read offline.

I just finished "Gone to Soldiers" by Marge Piercy.

    It's a way good read.

Just before that I reread "Stranger In A Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein
