This is a pretty common thought from clients.......
......I explain to them that tattoo "collectors" are different than people with tattoos....
I push clients to explore the world of tattooing and collect tattoos from folks who create the kinda stuff they dig. Especially if your already interested in travel. Work a tattoo appointment into a vacation..or a trip.... Get work from outside your bubble.
So...whether it be from 3 guys in one shop.....3 shops on one block or 3 shops around the map.... The goal should be to get excited about your collection.
Any shop that has tattooers tattooed by many, should endorse you getting tattooed by ANY...
As long as it's good solid work.... Go get it... Anywhere you find it....

I think that if you own a flash sheet or collection of sheets you can bring that to an artist as long as they are going to do the design your bringing them justice. Recently i drove from MA to Milwaukee to see the Dietzel exhibit and bought the first volume of the flash collection and when i returned home i went to a local artist, who i knew would be proud to do a Dietzel design and she did a great job. to me that is different than printing the design offline and not knowing the significance of the flash you are getting tattooed on you.

All the younger dudes at Inksmith and Rogers kill it on the reg, also Tyler Monaghan has been doing real well lately. personally my favorite younger tattooer is Frank William from Great Lakes Tattoo.

I got tattooed by Steve Boltz, and he did a pretty big eagle on my stomach in a little over an hour. I think it was about an hour and a half with a smoke break after the lining. Bert Krak is also pretty fast, though I haven't timed him.

I can see how people want other peoples tattoo, thats just the way it is. For most people, they dont think about it being rude to take other peoples tattoos because they will never meet the person they copy the tattoo of. It should be the tattoo artist who should be the one to say no to the customer .

Hello everyone, its truly an honor and privilege to be able to be a member of this community, whether its tattoo collectors, tattooers or fans of the craft, it's nice to actually be a member with so many like minded people. i'm from Boston and have been collecting tattoos since i turned 18. What i love about the craft of tattooing and collecting tattoos is being able to meet artists I look up to, not only for being masters of their craft but because they work hard and respect tattooing more than anything else. again, its nice to be able to join everyone on this site, and i hope i get to know all of you.
    thanks for your time...

For me, the biggest problem with Myke Chambers is that he's been tattooing for 20 years and his work looks the way it does. he dumbs down great traditional iconic images so that people who don't know traditional tattoos that well, will like them. he also uses the same stencils for every panther he does, so anyone with a panther from him in the last year or so has the same one, same shading same layout. there no variation in his work and i think it actually keeps getting worse.

If you live in Arizona, you definitely know who Aaron Coleman is! He's doing my back/ass. I'm soooooo unbelievably stoked on it. He's a super mellow dude, and he tattoos retarded fast. Maybe one of these days I'll post some progress photos.

If you had something from a great tattooer it should be immediately obvious who did it, at least to people who know what they're looking at. No signature should be necessary.

Most people I just simply tell them they watch too much TV and I don't want to talk about my tattoos because they bring up a dark part of my life and I paid my debt to society. Either that or that I was really drunk and don't remember why I got them.
In the shop talking to customers, I usually use a sports analogy. I explain that tattoos are what I follow, like most would follow a sports team. Can you imagine being able to book a couple hours with your favorite sports star and have a permanent souvenir. The experience holds more meaning than the tattoo, but the tattoo is a reminder of the experience. I usually let the tattooer pick the image, because I want a tattoo that represents their style, so I remember where I got it from.
They either get it or just continue to mouth breath, until I start talking about their idea again, but either way it shuts them up. I think the most important thing is having people in real life an on the internet to vent about these things and understand we to some degree go through the same things having tattoos.

Getting tattooed for all the wrong reasons... 1/2 the fun is having them under wraps and showing them to whom and when you want.

Why? Because flash is a source of income for tattooers, and not just designs that you can take for free.
