  1. Been thinking a lot lately about getting my left elbow covered. While I like the look, I don't necessarily want to go the direction of a rose/flower/increasingly popular mandala.

I'm thinking a horshoe with something going on in the middle could be fun.

Anybody got some swellbow recently, or seen something they like?

  2. Being young and careless? Not knowing any better? Rushing into a decision? All or none of the above? I'd say it's a case by case basis.

The first large tattoo I got, on my forearm no less, is not necessarily something I would get today. I still like the tattoo, but it's in some prime, very visible real estate that I may have otherwise used for a much different, and probably much better, tattoo today.

At the time I was younger and far less informed, latched on to a particular idea pretty early, and didn't really consider all possibilities. I rushed into it. Fortunately, I didn't end up with one of those horror stories, but despite liking the tattoo, I'd still probably do things different today.

  3. I was just wanting some perspective I haven't really thought about it until recently.i was just going to have it gonna back over with color n "fixed" but realistically it was a dumb idea at 14 done by someone who was just starting out.  And I no longer live in milwaukee. My choices in shops are limited to Nashville TN or othet surrounding areas. The lines have really faded and I was thinking of getting it covered similar to this. Also no, no lasering. Literally only 2 sessions 1 of linings and then shading

Nashville. I'm sure there are others here more familiar with the area, but one shop I can speak to is Gold Club Electric. Never been there myself, but was at a convention where several of their tattooers were, and they seem to do good work. I got tattooed by Mike Fite and would definitely recommend him.

Best option is still to physically go into a shop and talk about your options with an artist.

  4. seriously? don't skip the game !!

i'd take the patch off before you play. you will be fine ... just wear a clean shirt between your skin and your stinky hockey gear. that's the only thing i'd be worried about with respect to infections.

the tattoo isn't going anywhere man.

and on a side note...you guys and your 'derm'  :22_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That's what I'm saying man! It's the playoffs!

  5. So I got this awesome tattoo a couple years ago at the Baltimore tattoo convention; believe I posted it in the latest tattoo lowdown thread.

Some time after it healed, I noticed something unfortunate. I don't remember it healing this way, and I'm not sure what I might've done wrong, but it's been this way for a while now. Notice the milky whiteness where there should be black above the upper teeth in the skull, continuing up the left side in the feathers of the eagle.

Anybody seen this before? Unfortunately, the guy who tattooed me lives states away and so isn't easily accessible. Hopefully I'll be getting a new tattoo soon and can ask another artist, but idk when that might be.

I'd kinda like to get it touched up, but I know it's not always that easy, not to mention idk when the guy who did this one will be back in the area, if ever.

I've never had an issue like this with any of my other tattoos, and I'm not entirely sure what might've caused this. A couple months after getting it I was at the beach lathering up in sun block and relaxing under the rays, for whatever that's worth.

Ultimately, I still like this tattoo and can live with the imperfection, but I'd prefer getting it touched up. What I don't want to do is spend mine/someone else's time and effort only to make things worse or end up with the same effect.

I appreciate any of you fine folks who might be able to share a similar experience, or advice, or just tell me to suck it up.

  6. Welcome, swask! Very cool that you and your dad are getting tattoos together. What's his input on it? Or is he kind of leaving it up to you?

Also, I can't help myself here, but your name reminds me of a little term me and my girlfriend use. The term is swask, and it's an amalgamation of "sweaty ass crack." You know, like, "Damn, it's hot out here. I've got some serious swask going on."

    I apologize to everyone.

  7. ^ Sweet. I was just tattooed by him at the same shop a couple months ago, didn't think he'd be swinging by again so soon. My tattoo by him is my favorite so far. :)

I have lots of tentative plans and I'm debating if I want to try to get in with one (or two) people before the end of the year, or wait until next year. They would be a long drive and I'm not sure I want to risk it in possible winter weather. But I want to get tattooed again really bad...decisions, decisions...

Nice. I actually was trying to get in during October, but he was all booked up. Luckily he said he'd be back November 16th and 17th, so I gladly settled for that.

    What'd you get?

  8. Some of these stories reminded me of the comment my grandfather made when I got my most recent tattoo.

He said, "You know I don't really like tattoos, at all, but that's really cool." I think one of the ways he described it was "mean looking" haha. Pretty high praise.

As far as work related experiences go, I'm typically in business attire so they're all covered. Everyone knows I have them, and on 'casual Friday' they're on display. No real problems, and I've actually had a pretty good conversation with one coworker who is interested in getting tattooed. My supervisor, who I like, tends to cross the line with the touchy feely routine though. And the head honcho did once make a snide remark about how "laser removal was going to become a big business now."

Other than that, I haven't had much interaction when I'm out and about aside from the standard "that's cool" or "where'd you get that done".

  9. I was at a cookout recently with a crowd I wouldn't typically be hanging out with, and one of the guys there saw I had tattoos and started talking to me about them. He actually complimented me on them, but then remarked how some coworkers told him that 80% of people with 3 or more tattoos have done time. Hahaha. I found it pretty funny, but stuff like that doesn't typically bother me.

The guy was kind of an ass, but we were ribbing each other all day joking around, so I think it was just his dry sense of humor. You never know with people though. He brought it up again later when the kids were around, and I just responded that I haven't been to prison...yet.
