  1. I needed more shops to look at because I was having issues finding them. I figured it might be better to ask people who might know rather than trust Google to find my options. Sorry, I never asked for your opinion on the tattoo design itself. I asked what artists in my area to check out for a rose and butterfly tattoo. But because people decided to comment on the design itself instead when all I did was answer the questions I was being asked, I had to defend the meaning of the tattoo. And apparently none of you have any sense to realize "Maybe we should just direct the girl to good artists and let them work out a design everyone will be happy with." It's basic psychology. Most people will go "You're the professional," and let the artist do what they know will work. Instead, you try as random people to tell me my idea will never work.

All I needed was a couple good shops to go look at when I get the chance in a few weeks when I'm home from college then when I go see my boyfriend. Because, you know, sometimes it's hard to find good stuff via Google and sometimes you can't judge a place based on it's website and Facebook.

How do you expect anyone to point you in any direction without knowing what you want. also the people who told you your idea may not work are some of the best tattoo artists in the business, some times you need to not make everything about yourself and think a little more about maybe these people are asking me specific questions to be able to assist me on a broader spectrum other than " her der log onto internet get any answere about anything log off get inked brah"

  2. It's really not because while I don't have marks on my skin, that's because I was obsessed with not leaving any so that nobody would know. So instead of a blade, I used my nails, I used a key. Or I would grab a serrated knife with the palm of my hand right along the line that runs across it so even if it left a mark for a day, nobody would know. So while I don't have the scar physically, in my mind I do. And I'm sorry if I can't give y'all a fantasy that I'll be able to go anywhere to get the tattoo I want. I came here because I needed to find somewhere in about an hour radius of me or in one of the two other areas I could go. Sorry, it's an opportunity cost situation. I need to give up getting the absolutely best tattoo in the gawddamn world so I can get one at a shop close enough to where I live to be practical and cost-effective. I'm a rational human being and I understand that while it may be the best experience in the world to get a tattoo from the absolute best artist working in my state or the surrounding states, practically, it is not feasible for me as a college student at a not-so-cheap school who cannot drive. I shouldn't have to explain to adults that there are trade-offs to everything you do. It's not like I'm going to some sleazy guy who'll do it for $50 or just doing it myself like my idiot former roommate. I'm trying to find a good artist in my area. I know of at least 5 shops in Fredericksburg. There are at the very least a dozen shops in Richmond. Factoring in just 2 artists per shop, that's 34 artists. Most of the shops have at least 3 so that's more than 50. At least one of those must be good enough to give me what I'm looking for. And that's not taking into account I also said Virginia Beach which, let's see, "the 757" has ODU, NSU, CNU, HU, W&M, and VWC. With 6 colleges plus tourism, I'd say, conservatively, that they have more than a dozen shops. I think I have more than enough artists to choose from. Far too many for me to sort through. Hence why I wanted help. Which I'm obviously not getting here.

I wouldn’t say you’re not getting any help here, I would say you are poo-pooing everyone suggestions to you. we can only say so much at the end of the day you will do what you want, if waiting to get a good tattoo from someone who is more than capable of doing it is something you can’t do than its your responsibility to look through every artist in your areas for a style you like and an artist you feel is up to the job, we all get the tattoos we deserve after all. also I don’t see how anyone having cutting scars has anything to do with waiting for a tattoo. if you waited until now you can certainly wait until you find someone you will be happy with. at the end of the day its your responsibility as the consumer to know exactly what you are getting yourself into. knowledge is power

  3. Keepcalm, it's entirely possible you won't be a lucky as to have an artist or situation where you feel you don't need some input. Like above people said, personally I have never changed a design simply because I approached them for their style.

99% of most clients are not like that. That's a special breed. Ok maybe 97%.

I have been stuck redrawing something a bit too many times and it does get aggravating in some cases. It happens but thankfully not often. It's kind if part if the deal; we try to make you what you want, with the exception of professional judgement calls of technical aspects such as design structure. But if it's as simple as "I'm not sure I like the way those wings look, it's too ____ for me" then it's part of the job to try to make it more appealing to you, without the ego of "this is what I wanted to do so that I can get a picture of it.". I would rather re-draw the wings and make you happy than have you go to a different shop later and say "this isn't what I wanted".

The other day I drew up a bird and roses and banner for someone brought in some shitty JPEG that they liked. I took down what they wanted, made an appointment, and then spend some time making a drawing for that tattoo. When he came in for a follow-up before the actual tattoo he looked at it and I could tell something bothered him. Apparently the bird I used (thanks Jerry) wasn't to his liking, he wanted it closer to the lame one on the JPEG. To me it looked rad because it was a classic looking bird. To him he just wanted a different style, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's just a matter of personal taste. I was a little bummed, but I gave him the kind of bird he wanted. And he left super happy. Which means he'll be coming back and bring his friends and maybe one of them want the 'cooler' bird.

Don't be scared to speak up. You live with this tattoo until you're dead. I will see that tattoo maybe once in my life at the most. You should be comfortable with what you wear, I often hear that they didn't want what the artist wanted to do. Well if you don't speak up then it's not our fault!

Be assertive and make sure that if you don't like it then don't get it.

Edit; Siri made all kind of blunders here, Apologies for odd sentence structure or the use of wrong words.

im impressed siri let you speak this entire thing out without cutting you off, she cuts me off A LOT! haha

  4. I was gonna say Mike, too. Rassier put a mean panther head on me, but he told me that Mike showed him how, so I guess Mike wins again.

Scott wins for mountain lions, though. He did the only one I've ever seen (it's on Dan Wysuph).

Dusty Neal did a killer Mt. Lion tat a couple months ago, there is a healed picture up on his instagram.

  5. I just started watching Best Ink.

Overall I like it better than the "Adventures of Ladyface and Toothpick" but it's still bad tattoos getting good press.

Capobianco yelling at people is an interesting touch though.

Isnt that all he does on that show, along with look over everyons shoulder as they sketch there ideas telling them its shit because its not bloodpuddin.

  6. I learned everything I know about painting, and spitshading by hanging out in the shops and watching, never asking questions but just watchinig in silence, then going home and trying what i saw untill i got the results i was looking for.

Whats the fun in some one telling you exactly what to do, where is the satisfaction in that. its much more rewarding to figure it out for yourself with trial and error.

  7. my name is Zach and im 24 years old

Im stoked to be able to admire all the great art this website is showcaseing, and maybe learn a tip or trick about some painting techniques
