That makes total sense. I missed the part where you wrote she was training. True "trade" is Journeyman to Journeyman.

A journeyman is a person who has completed an apprenticeship and is fully educated in a trade or craft, but not yet a master. To become a master, a journeyman has to submit a master work piece to a guild for evaluation and be admitted to the guild as a master. Sometimes he is required to accomplish a three-year working trip, also called the Journeyman years.

Does the tattoo community have a guild?

  2. Chances are this guy is lying about his apprenticeship. People do that all the time to try to gain credibility. And it's a real shame that most people reading the article won't be able to read the subtext of what this guy really is saying which is that he sucks too horribly and is too lazy to get a spot at a real shop, and because of that he could never actually charge anyone for his work. He's probably just using this to be "cool" with his jerkoff hipster friends. Yet another crappy side effect of tattoo TV shows.

I was getting tatts before they were cool and on tv..better quality and better prices overall..LA Ink etc. ruined it all!

  3. My back is in progress and last session I realized that getting one's back tattooed is like getting your ribs done all over again. I foolishly thought going into it... "At least my ribs are done. Nothing could hurt that bad." If I'd given it an ounce more thought and considered the anatomy involved I might have realized that ribs wrap from front to back... fucking duh! I told Scott we will be finishing this thing in 30 minute increments. What a cry baby I've become in my old age.

It looks like it will be well worth it..Congrats!!!

  4. Also depends on the thrift shop, at ours it's loosely organized and there's really no prices on on anything so we welcome it..

Tattoo shops and other businesses are not set up that way at all.

Generally I discuss the idea, the placement and ask for a ball park figure so I can be sure to have plenty of cash for a tip etc, didn't ask for a price on the last two though, they are kinda small so..

This brings up a question for me.(and I know beforehand that i will be severely scolded!),but why is there a need for tipping? It seems to me that all prices charged should be inclusive of a profit.
