  1. Maybe that's supposed to be a saggy breasted luchador wrestler?
  2. I'm finishing up my active duty military contract and I have 2 months left. Then I'm going to school to get my bachelors in nursing, and eventually after RN experience and school become a CRNA. I've already looked at the university med center I'll be attending and their policy on tattoos are they have to be covered, but as an employee of that same med center they say it's up to the department. I have read that having tattoos in nursing school is more of a problem than getting a job in nursing. Would you say that's fairly true?
  3. Probably depends on who you work for. If you work in a place where you could wear long sleeves and be ok with never rolling them up, then why not.
  4. I was 18 when I got my first one. I drew it up myself and told my dad I was going around to get it priced. Came home late that night, after getting the tattoo of course, and first thing my dad says is "let me see your tattoo". He had a sixth sense that when I said I was going to get prices, that meant I was getting it. He was cool about it. Being in a very outlaw biker gang in the 50's, 60's and some of the 70's but having no tattoos except some scratch work he did himself (VERY tiny and not in a visible place) I didn't think he's mind. He warned me my mom might be pretty mad, but all she did was kinda shake her head about it. But about 10 years later, she ended up getting one of her own.
  5. Just booked to do a b&g piece from Chris Chisolm at Halo Tattoo in Syracuse, NY on April 6th. He came recommended by Joe Shit so I checked him out and liked what I saw. I'm getting the statue of Hercules fighting Cerberus at Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria, with whatever he wanted to use for the background.
  6. How long did you take the Claratin for? Allergy meds like Claratin and Zyrtec take a week or so to build up in your system, and you have to take them everyday. Despite the commercials, the stuff doesn't work instantly.
  7. Well I guess my cable guide lied to me.. I DVR'd it and it's not Tattoo Nation, it's Tattoo Nightmares
  8. In case anyone missed it on Spike, it's on again tomorrow at 5pm eastern.
  9. Add whatever you want, or if you're comfortable with your artist walk in and ask them to fill in some space around it with what whatever they think would work best.
  10. I'm just a newbie, but with how dark they already are, it might be hard to put any color in them at all, and as was said above, it would be really, really dark. Personally I'd just leave it like it is and get a color tattoo somewhere else
  11. I should be ok, because I don't really have a specific vision of how I want the characters to fit. The characters are 3 separate Greek mythology statues that I'm looking to get done in black and grey. I don't want the whole statue of all 3 except for 1 of them. The other 2 are pictures of just a part of the statue. The size of the area is starting at my left shoulder and at most would have to stay 3-4 inches above my elow, so not quite a half-sleeve, and I'd be ok if some had to go onto my chest/back I guess at least bringing up price will be ok from what I'm hearing, but I would completely understand if he needed time to work on the design a little, or even an hourly rate would be ok.
  12. My wife works in Human Resources, and she only has 2 "visible" tattoos 1 other big one depending on the shoes she wears (top of foot), but she's only had one job that made her cover up the very small Chinese writing on the underside of her wrists. She has a friend though that worked at a restaurant in Florida that made her cover up. Which I found odd as I've worked in the food industry and been around restaurants for 30 years and don't think I've ever seen someone have to cover a tattoo. I am going into the medical field and I've already checked the policy of tattoos at the University Med Center I'll be attending, and they have to be covered. I've read from a lot of people in the field that it's harder in medical school with tattoos than it is to get a job in the medical field with them.
  13. I'm in the Army and this gem of a shop is right outside one of the gates to the base. The name has changed and they say the old place was sold to this new guy, but it's just as bad.. I remember seeing a teenager standing on the side of the road in front of the store with a sign that said "free tattoos". And of course being right outside a military base they get a lot of clients. Half the shops in this town I could post here.. Had a buddy of mine who has quite a few tattoos get skulls done on each of his wrists that should match but they're not even close. https://www.facebook.com/blackpearltattoosny blackpearl Edit: If you want another laugh watch some of the videos.. The guy thinks he's amazing.
  14. So I went through most of this thread and like it's been said, a lot of the advice given is for a small percentage of people. One thing that was kind of mentioned I am looking for some more detail in. I am looking to get a piece that has three separate characters in it, but because of the size of the area I'm getting it in, I'm just not certain if all three will fit, which is fine. I am more concerned with two of them getting in it if all three won't work. I don't really have any request beyond that as I want to guve as much artistic freedom to the artist as I can. This isn't a request that will come off dickish is it? Also, as for asking for a ball park figure. I am looking to drive down to meet the artist and give him the reference tomorrow or Monday. Once I give it to him and we discuss design and how big the piece will be, is that an appropriate time to ask for a ballpark estimate before he has even done any of the design at all?
  15. Wanted to thank everyone for the replies and suggestions. I have emailed Josh Payne and am going to get in contact with Chris Chisolm about my idea. Thanks again everyone.
  16. Found his Instagram page. He does do some pretty solid work, but besides a phone number on their Facebook page there's no contact info for anyone on their website. And their FB page seems to be ignored.
  17. Yeah getting tattooed before I move back west is always an option. I'll see what I can find. Thanks
  18. Awesome. Thanks for the welcome. Here's his Facebook page. I guess he's in the process of opening his own shop next month. https://www.facebook.com/PeterWhitlowTattoos
  19. Hi everyone. Quick little tidbit about me. 33yrs old, currently serving in the U.S. Army (for the next two months, then my active duty contract is up). Stationed at Ford Drum, NY which is no where near NYC. More like 30 miles south of Canada on the eastern edge of Lake Ontario. I'll be moving back to Omaha Nebraska in May. I only have one tattoo right now, and I have finally came up with an idea or theme for my next one. I have an artist that I might be interested in seeing what he can come up with as his work to me seems like it might be improving and getting pretty good. But that's why I want to see what people here think. I won't post a link here unless I am told it would be ok, as I know this isn't the right forum. Any artist recommendations for Midwest artists for realism/black and grey would be more than welcome.
