  1. yeah.. could be a tattoo artwork to hang on my wall, but it wont be the same

Called something black & grey in a picture of solid black tribal in a thread called blackwork is the best laugh I've had in the last 30 minutes.

dont matter what style the black the tone will gone.. they say

  2. Fellow pure black work admirers..

I wonder if any of you see the same problem as me

B&G is what draws me to get a tattoo, but real life B&G ive spotted on the street, court, gym, bus, tube made me cringe (this is not about design its about pigment vs epidermis problem) i assure you that all amazing artist has nothing to do with this.

Those B&Gs turn dark green/blue which removes completely its charm (don't ask me to put some pics on, you know damn well what i mean).

To my taste by the end of first year only B&Gs with balanced negative space within the piece could retain its appeal

like this works for example Curly Tattoomonger

otherwise it would be a flat blob of single toned dark green

so the question is, anyone knows the best black ink that holds up?

    thank you

@graybones gave you the name/reference or "key word" as you asked. You responded and asked more questions. And you got another very learned response from @irezumi. At that point, you had the info to speed your search. Instead, you threw out your snarky comment. And then added more snarkiness with your latest response to me.

So don't get bent if people don't feel like bending over backwards to respond further to you, if that's how you treat people you'd like to learn from.

    Bye.

    indeed and i thanked them

if you are interested in tattoos why would you want to spend less time researching tattoos?

    the day job remember?

  4. @junior where are you located? maybe we can recommend a few shops/artists that we like and you can check them out to see if any of them appeal to you.

Thank you, ive been around few big shops in London no artist got enough time to explain these research things

im just looking for a style that last, after knowing and seeing for my self that colors change over time.

    Thank you

  5. We don't talk about pricing here. I think you've got lots of good info from this thread and the next step is to read through the vast amount of info posted on the forum already to learn more.

(Starting to see where you're coming from, @Graeme...)

its just a way of saying that lifetime saving for something that fades is ridiculous

  6. "...there isn't anything being done today in tattooing that changes the very nature of our skin and epidermis..."

    (shit)

Get whatever style you like; yes a lot of people here are focused on American and Japanese traditional tattooing but that doesn't there aren't other cool styles out there.

When people ask "what's your speciality?" "What do like to do the most?" My answer is "I like to make tattoos"

I have fun doing just about anything, and people like different styles for different reasons. Nobody can pick your style for you; I recommend visiting a shop with a lot of flash, and a variety of styles of flash, and you'll see all kinds of stuff that you might not have considered already. Don't feel pressured to get something on the spot, just go look around and don't ask too many questions unless you are serious about getting it that same day.

No intention to hijack this thread but ive done that and for $500 i am looking for something that stays good

  7. i was trying to fish out the key word before going through the forum threads, i have to keep my day job beside doing research, is that weird to you?

Does anyone that likes this style look at pictures of old tattoos? Junior, I recommend that you look at photos of vintage tattoos as they are today. There's a great one on IG called @vintagetattoos. Go figure.

What you'll see is that when all the color eventually fades (it will) all that is left is the backbone and foundation of the tattoo. Meaning, all that is left is the black. Which is why whether it's 'traditional' or any type of (well designed) tattoo there is a good structure of black in it; preferably 1/3rd imo.

That photo you linked to will have eventually have a few bits of crooked black lines and look like shit. That's not a debatable topic, the proof is in the pudding and there isn't anything being done today in tattooing that changes the very nature of our skin and epidermis. Meaning that this is a fact, color fades and as long the damn skeleton of the tattoo is there it will be better looking than without it.

edit*looks like you already got some replies on that while I was typing. I'm pretty slow at that.

Thank you Thank you Thank you :)

  8. Thats generous definitions lol thanks

can you please include some of the best names in that garbage style?

    thanks again

I think people are calling that style “watercolor”. It’s a newer, trendy style of tattoo. There is some doubt about if it will age well and some think it’s just a passing trend. As you can see, a lot of people who are into more traditional styles (most of this forum) don’t think highly of it, so you won't find any info on that here. You can google artists like Amanda Wachob and Sasha Unisex as a starting point to find out more, but I'd encourage you to look into more established styles that are known to stand the test of time.

Thank you, I am looking for enduring types of tattoo, not those which are losing dimension and details and became flat or mushy after a few years.

What style you suggest (beside traditional) then?

    Thank you :-)
