  1. Btw. You always hear people saying that doing deads without shoes is better. How about squatting?

hear is a funny quote from john welborn who runs crossfit football taking a little stab at his/my own ilk

"Any crowd that shuns supplements, shoes, strength and curls is confusing. Any demographic striving for elite human performance should be looking to increase recovery, muscle and strength. The same confusion extends to the people who won’t wear shoes when they lift because it is not functional or do not think strengthening your biceps brachii through isolated single jointed movements has benefit. If your goal is elite human performance, things like supplements to aid in recovery, shoes to increase your lifts and curls to strength your biceps brachii for pulling movements makes total sense."

ps - I have been "crossfitting" (don't really like this term as i know it has a dirty connotation to some) for 5 years and love it. I was a division 1 college athlete and have been involved in strength and conditioning for a long time. It's certainly not the only way to train, but it works great for me - Like anything open source, that grows as quickly as CF has, you are going to have good and bad coaches. Somebody has mentioned the mobilitywod.com It is a great source and I am lucky to say that Kelly is my coach at San Francisco Crossfit. If I am not there doing kipping pull-ups you will find me in my garage following westsides conjugate method or running up and down my block dragging chains behind me.

Peace & Love - Now lets go pick some heavy things up and put them back down.

  2. I got tattooed by Chris Trevino in 1997, right before I left Austin for SF. He said he had just done a guest spot in SF, so I asked him what the coolest tattoo he did on the trip was. Now, for those of you who are familiar with Pre-100% Japanese Style Chris Trevino, you know that "coolest tattoo" also meant "craziest tattoo." He went on to describe an insane armpit-to-waistline rib piece that involved, among other other things, a jackelope wearing a fez, a waterfall of blood, and a lady with a beehive hairdo making the devil horns with her ring and middle fingers tucked away in her special pocket. I couldn't really get my head around it, but that was the case with many of the tattoos Chris described to me.

Fast forward to 1999, when I finally had enough money to get tattooed by Eddy Deutsche. I went to 222 on my lunch break and booked the appointment with some guy at the counter. We got to talking about my tattoos and I mentioned that I had work from Chris. He said, "Oh yeah, he did my ribs" and lifted up his shirt. It was that piece! And the guy was Jeff Rassier, who is in a league of his own when it comes to putting weird (and awesome) tattoos on people.

ha before i finshed reading this, i was thinking - "sounds like a rassier tattoo'

  3. "A few." Stop giving me the itch, @Hrubarb!

Tell 'em the story about how Mike Wilson did that panther. :)

The panther was from the books Eli, Bert & mike were working out of. It had a small nose and super low brow, it's the same piece of flash Bert used on that guys hand opposite the wolf that he recently posted on instagram. After applying the stencil, Mike just smeared the brow, drew on his signature brow, enlarged the eyes and snarled the lip and voila! Instant Mike Wilson panther. It was pretty cool to see him transform the piece on a fly

  4. Brooklyn's Mike Perfetto

The link is to my buddy Fernando's blog post about his experience visiting this classic/unique Brooklyn shop

    MICHAELANGELO | LIONS NYC

The shop is in the basement of a house. It's first come first serve. You wait in line, put your name on the board and go walk around to kill time. One by one the names get knocked off the list. If you are not there you lose your spot. He opens at four. I think they got there a few hours early and dudes were already waiting.

  5. In my mission to secretly become the norwegian eqivalent of @hogg I´ve decided to rip off all his tattoo ideas, shave my head and grow a beard. My beard-growing abilities aren´t up to par yet, despite me turning 30 in three weeks, but I managed to steal one of his filler idea´s the other day. Worst thing is I even ripped off the placement, haha!

i can copy hogg too, but i have you beat. i moved to the sf and got a spider by grillo in the same spot.:)

i can squat and deadlift a hell of a lot more than him though...

  6. Think he'd relate to this guy? He's on Facebook doing the exact same thing. Posting pics of other people's tattoos without mentioning the didn't do those tattoos. Tattooing out of his house. Don't Think Just Ink | Facebook

Besides the thievery and praying one of my 18 month old twin boys never get something from a piker like this, this shit is so under any talented artist it should't even be on his/her radar. This is some piker bullshit and not worth the keystrokes. Non of these "customers" are smart enough or willing to spend enough to get a real tattoo. So they are really not taking money out of your pocket. If anything these pikers will eventually learn something about tattoo culture, quit and become a paying customer.

Every field has it's pikers. These guys are not on your radar and should not get under your skin.

    With respect,

    George

  7. It is funny that Smith Street has been mentioned in both responses to this thread. I think they set out to be the premier street shop in the world, and I would say they have accomplished it.
There is nothing cooler in my mind than a place you know you can walk in and get a top notch tattoo that day. Same reason I love Chicago Tattoo Company.

i have about 20-25 tattoos from the guys at smith street. 7 were planned and the rest came off the walls for the most part. getting tattooed there is the best/most fun tattoo experience every single time.

  8. Looking around the LST tattoo gallery and saw these ones:

Dietzel Dagger and Jesus piece by Dan Santoro, Smith Street Tattoo Parlour in Hrubarb tattoo pictures gallery

Mary no half-shell by Mike Rubendall, Kings Avenue Tattoo in Hrubarb tattoo pictures gallery
