This isn't preferential treatment, but I blew a tire once on I-95N and pulled into the PA Welcome Station to wait for a towtruck. (someone had borrowed my jack).
I was sitting by the car grumpy, and this older gent came up and started hitting me up. Given that it was a rest stop, I assumed he wanted a little roadside fun and cold shouldered him a bit... until he showed me his full DON FUCKING NOLAN backpiece that he got back in the day. We ended up talking for two hours, traded info and all that, but I never heard back from him. Shame I never got pics.
I always said tattoos were passports; sometimes they take you to Tahiti to sit on the beach and lounge and sometimes they take you to some god forsaken hellhole, but if you sign up for an adventure, you're likely to get it.

When I was in Vegas for the APP Conference, my old friend Ron Garza and I decided to get matching 'bro-tats' courtesy of his wife Nakota who tattoos out of Outer Limits. We've known each other since 1995 and have an amazing surreal friendship. Earlier this year one of our good friends (who goes back to 95 with us as well) killed himself, so we decided on Skulls in Party Hats. Little two minute dealies to commemorate our friendship.
The "party tats" label was tongue in cheek.

David finally colored in the outlines on my ribs. There's still a background to get done, but.... not bad for one sitting of color.

im going to be the grumpy old curmudgeon who offers nothing to the thread on topic save for mentioning my absolute hatred of the term plainskin. My friend Shannon tried to start that as a phrase years ago, not sure if this is the ripple from that, but its like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
    Sorry for interrupting.

I'm getting tattooed by Robert Ryan on Monday and Deno on Tuesday.
Both are in hellish (inner thigh and armpit) spots that I expect to leave me crying like a wee baby. This whole painting myself into a corner thing was dumb. I should have started with the shit spots and ended up 36 years old and making appointments for my forearms.

I did find it interesting that that kid got shot down so inappropriately harshly while Ursula's embroidery was so well received.
Both were non-tattooers offering tattoo imagery for sale.
That other kid ended up typing out his life story to appease people, which is a shame. I would have went with a 'hey, fuck off, sport'.
And Gouge- no one will think you're an outsider because folks seem to like you. It's all about who you know... didn't you know that? :D

    True enough.
I hate when people say "but tattoo artists HATE it!!" about something.
Here's something: Some tattooers are douchebags. Them being a tattooer, even a GOOD tattooer, doesn't make them right or profound. It makes them another asshole with an opinion and there's nothing special or unique about having one of those.
If you think you're a collector, you probably are. It's a way to describe what you do- collect tattoos from people you dig. I collect toys. I collect dvds. I have a lot of passion when it comes to my collections; I think about which swatches to buy, know when some obscure film is going to be released on dvd, read articles about toy production.
I guess if you looked at it like that, I collect tattoos too. I find myself interested in the whole culture of it, not just "gettin' a new tat'.
    Verdict:
It's not bad to be called a collector/call yourself a collector.
It's not bad to not WANT to be called a collector/call yourself a collector.

Pretty much every time he opened his mouth.
Hibbard was created and encouraged by the producers- believe it.
For Nunez to call him out re: "real" tattooers implies that he (Nunez) isn't selling out tattooing as well. But hey. S'long as the check clears, right?
