Im in the process of restoring this footage- originally shot on 8mm film in the 1970s, converted to VHS in the 80s where this rip comes from. Doing me best to color correct it, but the VHS is suffering digital rot. Shot at Ken Myers Kissimmee shop.

I met a tattooer a few years back, can't remember the guy's name but he was a real nice dude and a pretty decent artist. He was telling me that even as a tattooer he was having a hell of a time finding someone to do his hands without his arms being done first. His argument was that he didn't WANT his arms done. As we get more and more into the "general public" (I loathe using it, but I can't think of a better way to delineate the difference between "tattoo people" and everyone else) using tattoos to express aesthetics that aren't so codified to our subculture...
    Sorry... got really wordy there.
Anyhoo.... He eventually got his hands done. Still doesn't want his arms done. I worry that we're trending into a snobbery thing and that we're the ones that need to change. Like when Hardy started really pushing the planned out Japanese bodysuit versus the more traditional 'patched vulcanized tire' look there was a "these people don't GET it" snobbiness towards single piece Americana tattoos. But we've luckily worked through that. Now we're more evolved and just make fun of chromed up pieces.
That or these Warped Tour Bodysuit folks are just douches.
    Either way.

    Pre: Bitch about getting tattooed.
Post: Bitch about having been tattooed.
    Drugs: 1 muscle relaxer. 1 non-drowsy antihistamine.
I've found that I tense up heavily after 3+ hours of getting tattooed, so the muscle relaxer keeps me from converting all of that tension into a sore body after the tattoo. Sore body + sore tattoo and no one wins. The antihistamine keeps the surface of the skin from swelling up so much and makes it a little more bearable.
Food: Totally changed my ritual since reading my friend David's take on tattoo nutrition.

I hate myself every day, just for a little bit.
That said... I don't think he was saying Joy Division (whom I love) is hipstery, just that people only pretend to like them because you're s'posed to. Or maybe I misunderstood, too. I was too busy listening to Joy Division to read into it much.
Though one of my fiance's super politically correct friends won't listen to Joy Division because of where the name of the band comes from. Though she listens to Blondie. Go figure.

    Love away.
I find them annoying. It's what people in my age group do; hate people younger than us and thinking their trends are stupid.
And sure- I had said before that at some point people in this thread would get butthurt because something would hit too close to home.
I ride a track bike. I LOVE my track bike. It's really light, was cheap and gets me where I'm going.
I wear the same outfit literally every day. (black logo-less tshirt, jeans, new balance sneakers; when I dress in the morning I don't have to think about it; I just grab a clean shirt and pair of jeans and cut out the entire decision making process.)
    I have a beard.
Some, if not most, of my tattoos make no sense.
So sure, someone could call me a hipster. that's fine. As long as I'm washing my hair every day and not dressing like a total ironic douche, I don't mind.
    I still hate hipsters.

They're not mine to charge for, Pete. I'm just glad they're getting seen.
I've had people send me stuff in trade; drawings, books, etc- but I wouldn't feel comfortable making money from them.
    Speaking of- Cliff Raven. 1974.
This video features Cliff tattooing in New York & Florida. And generally not wearing pants.
There was no audio originally, so I decided to leave it silent for now. Enjoy-

There's a dive there called COOP'S PLACE that has the best Jambalaya I've ever had. I've been eating there for probably 15 years. Last time I went to NOLA, I ate there six times in five days.

I had a list somewhere of the artists who were going to make up the 'new' season, but it looks like that's not going to happen now.

Found some more footage from 'Tattoo Take Two'- with Cliff Raven. Short clip but better quality than anything I've found so far.

I miss that dude. He only drank Diet Pepsi with Lime. Like only. Never saw him drink anything else. Thats living.
And thanks. It was FREEZING that day and we had my Wife wrapped up in a mink stole and when we'd get ready to take a picture... whip it off, take the picture and then put it back on!
I'll try to contribute more. I miss making fun of Ladyface.

There was that time in November where we decided to say screw it and get married a year early, in a public park, with 9 guests.
