I'd like to start a chicano style tattoo threat. The style is a favorite of mine. It also translates well into traditional style tattooing. I'd like to know which tattooers are highly influenced by this style, as I'd like to get more work done. Some of my favorite chicano style tattooers are: Jack Rudy Freddy Corbin Eli Quinters Jason McAfee Tim Hendricks Daniel Albrigo Fernando Lions Chuco Moreno UZI Here are some of my tattoos. Based off of Teen Angels Magazines. By Eli Quinters. [/img] [/img]

Sue Jeiven, a tattooer at East River Tattoo was selling "her" flashbook at the Philly Convention. I put 'her' in quotations because the book contains direct tracings of custom work from Ezra Haidet, AP Shrewsbury, Ron Henry Wells and others. The story first broke on Instagram but it's made it's way to Facebook today: Flash by Sue Jeiven

Anyone watching the new Ink Master, sorry if there was a previous thread I couldn't find it. They're tattooing pigs right now and the work is looking pretty good, I'm just not a fan of them having a time limit.

I got back from my road trip just to find my shop trashed. My landlord tried to blow insulation on my drop ceiling and got it everywhere. It's going to take 2 weeks to have it Cleaned professionally. Between being on the road and this I may be open to a big change in my life. We all know there are too many shops and closing mine may be the first step in making this business better. Id really enjoy just tattooing and painting and not worry about owning a business. I guess if it's meant to be I'll get an offer I cant refuse. It would really be nice to get back in to a shop where I am inspired by my co-workers every day.

I moved to a town called Twin Falls, Idaho a short time ago and there aren't really any good artists in this area. The closest place is Boise, Idaho and if anyone knows of any good artists that I should check out some feedback would be awesome. Peace

I thought I'd start this thread along the same sort of vein as tattooer's deserving some recognition ,except more like shedding some light on the classics. So i'll kick this off with one of my all time favorites,N.Y.C's finest -Tony Polito

Buying a king size print from one of your favorite artists, getting it framed properly, hanging it on your wall and taking two steps back. I´ve been staring at the original hanging by Marius´ station for hours while getting tattooed, so when he decided to make giclee prints of it I had to rape my wallet and buy one. Stoked!

I need some serious help with my next tattoo design, I'm looking to do a traditional japanese piece incorporating the koi in the first pick and the shadowing in the second. I am not an artist and I have no idea how to incorporate it all together, just for more information I'm looking to have it start at my side and go up my back. Ideas and help would be awesome. Thanks

So I've been having conversations with friends and have noticed a new trend. Smoozing ( or as we like to call it ) sucking dick! I'm referring to all newbies that blow up because they bought their fame by being tattooed by the heros and traveling everywhere to soak it up and be in the scene. Where's the horror stories of sticking out a 12 hour shift tattooing dumb shit on dumb people when your buddies are out getting drunk on a friday night? There's no more blood sweat and tears in tattooing. Its all about who you know and where you are... Not about the hard work and I guarantee you, the badasses nuts your swinging from did ten fold the work you did by the same point in their career... Which brings me to my second point. Art used to have true "masters" that could paint their fucking asses off but they went extinct because the art fags of the world decided picasos crazy shit and pollacks paint splaters were more significant than Rubens? WTF? I remember reading about Robert Williams saying the same thing how folk art overthrew talent. It was a way for the "common man" to relate and opened the door for every Popsicle stick glueing soccer mom to call them selves artist. Now innovation is worthy of recognition, being the first is being the first and thats to be commended but rehashing is dribble. The same is true in tattooing. And you know exactly what I'm talking about... Clunky old school poorly drawn designs revered as the badess of the bad. good artist having to dumb down their shit to get the gold star? WTF? Wheres the pushing of the envelope, breaking the rules, falling and reinventing...I will say one thing, some are true masters of the hardcore oldschool look and the power can't be challenged. Its amazing, but 3/4 of the other shite isnt making the cut. And were all guilty of praising these fucks!!! Copy cats sitting in the same booth of masters invited into the brotherhood with open arms. Fuck that! I might never achieve the recognition of others to my degree of happiness but I can hold my head high because I'm not a smoozer sucking dick to look cool. Death to false tattooing!

I am in the process of cleaning/clearing my house out and was cleaning off some of my alters when I rediscovered all sorts of old gems. One particular piece I thought some here would enjoy is an old unused Temple Tattoo Gift Certificate from I think when the shop first opened. I have included pictures below.... What tattoo shop and/or tattooer collectibles have you gathered?

Looks like hes working out of Taylor St in Chicago. If your a fan of his work find his face book page, hes posting some cool art and it seems hes doing a little more self promotion. He is one of that tattooers that years ago I told myself I wanted to get work from, and that was before I really got serious about getting tattooed. I hope our paths cross sometime next year.....even if I have to fly to Chicago. SOoooo, I was wondering who has some work from him that you would be willing to post?? Deno has a crazy skull/thing on his arm that I couldn't look at enough times when I was at the Montreal convention. His work isn't extremely common to see online(and I like that about it) but anything would be cool (but I respect keeping it offline.

As some of you know I visited San Francisco recently to get tattooed by Scott Sylvia, Tim Lehi and Grime. If you haven't seen it already you can check out my travelblog here: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/blogs/iwar/232-oslo-san-francisco-travel-blog.html My Scott Sylvia piece is as good as healed now, so I thought I'd start by sharing that one. The rest will be posted here as soon as they are healed and I get decent pictures. All I have to take photos with is my iPhone, so please excuse the mediocre quality.

I had heard about this upcoming Black Flag art show from a few people then Tim Shelton was nice enough to send me the flyer (see below attached). If you are in the area you should go! The list of artist contributing is mind blowing!! Any LSTers plan on going who want to post a blog with pictures about it after the show?

This year I attended a tattoo convention. It is an annual convention put on by a group that has both tattooists and enthusiasts as it's members. One night during the convention they have a dinner and you are often seated at a table with people that you don't know. This one shop from the Midwest owned by a tattooer with a single name - like Cher -had a huge entourage with him and had two large tables put aside to accommodate the group. He and his senior group sat at one table and all his younger, newer tattooists were seated at the other. As luck would have it , Don and I were also seated at this other table. This other group wasn't particularly pleased to have us at their table. Imagine being a great aunt and uncle at the kid's table at Thanksgiving. Now, between us, Don and I had more time tattooing then all the 8-12 other tattooists sitting at both tables- put together. I say that, not to boast, but illustrating the scene. I'm pretty social and tried to engage the group in conversation but it was a real strain. One girl there, said her forte was lettering. I said how much I admire " so and so's" lettering, and everybody at the table said "who?" I explained that "so and so" does beautiful lettering in the style of " so and so" and they said "who?" I further explained that " so and so" just had an interview in Tattoo Artist Magazine that was really worth reading and they said "what magazine?" I came away from the evening with the realization that the love of tattoos, tattooing and it's history - was no longer enough to bind a group of people together. That I might as well be at a table of brick layers or chiropractors.

It seems I've already made a fair share of enemies here with my stance on tattooers with little to no tattoos and my post-whoring to reach the point I could ask this question, and I would like to apologize to any that I offended and ask that you not hold it against me now. My question is, I am new to New York City, and am seeking assistance finding a shop (or specific artist) that does (or you think could do) Chinese style art. Specifically, I am looking for someone who can pull off an original design in this style for a half sleeve; Thank you.

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I will be near Tampa for a few days in November and might like to get tattooed while I'm there. Does anyone recommend any artists and/or shops worth checking out in the area?
