  1. What do you like to listen to when you get tacked, or are tattooing? I'm into some slow sleepy metal. I dunno why, it's not my genre of choice usually, but it somehow just makes sense around tattoos... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWHplp10kQM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdKZVN_1V3I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ICzXDyEt0k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_45E4xknkc
  2. okay, so, first off...i'm not sure if this is the place to ask this on here or not, so somebody let me know, haha. I'm considering getting a Northeast shader frame to do a build on...does anybody have an opinion on these frames? Good? Bad? I'm assuming the brass ones are pretty hefty... And what happened to Paulo Fernando frames? I built on a few and really liked em...now poof! I cannot yet make frames...and really enjoy doing builds. Cheers!
  3. Hey, everybody. My name is Nathan and I'm a professional tattooer in Chattanooga, Tn. I've been tattooing for five years, beginning as an apprentice to two very honorable mentors. I've spent the entirety of my career so far at that same shop. I love tattooing pretty much more than anything...ok...definately more than anything period. My goal is to, throughout the entirety of my career (hopefully, my entire life), always improve, always reach for more and maybe even achieve relevance. Basically always just earn my place in the craft. And above all, satisfy my clients and make them feel happy they got with me. Have a great night and Cheers!
  4. This may not be the exact place to post, but I wanted to inform all of you. My name is Jon Clement. I have come to call the man not only boss, but father. Billy Eason did alot for our industry as well as individuals in his 50 year career. He passed on to blue skies some time yesterday in his rest. I will inform the forum of funeral arrangements and so forth. For any other information, please feel free to call me at 804.440.4255. Or message me here.
  5. Not a religious person but I've always had a fascination with the art and stories that surround various religions. My house is covered in various spiritual/religious art including many of my tattoos. So the other day when hanging out at Temple Tattoo in Oakland with friends since we were in the neighborhood running an errand I realized we haven't discussed it on Last Sparrow Tattoo yet. I am always amazed when I step into Temple not only for the quality of work that has continuously come out of that shop and the various tattooers that are/have worked there but just the visual stimulus of the shop itself. Tattoo 13, Freddy Corbin's, other shop in Oakland is just as amazing and found myself in there a few weeks back just observing the art as well. Both shops are like religious and spiritual museums and the tattoos just as high of quality. I am a fan of in my tattoos and many art pieces I do have various saints as well as taking religious ideas and adding a touch of a darker Dia De Los Muertos to them. So as that jumping off point lets talk about religious and/or spiritual tattoos, tattoo designs from crosses, Jesus, Mary's, Saints, angels, cherubs, guardian angels to Buddhist influenced tattoos to Stars of David to ?????? And of course we love tattoo pictures!
  6. Everyone loves eating, so I figured we could share what we are eating and drinking. Get some of us to try new stuff! Basil, gouda, avacado, roma tomato crepe. Coffee
  7. I've been reading through all of the threads and everything that people have been posting and i havent stumbled upon anything that talks about what artists like to see when it comes to good client behavior. i am a new tattoo collector and before actually visiting a shop for the first time all i knew was what i saw on tv from the reality shows like Miami or LA ink. so i like to hear from anyone on what they like to see when it comes to well behaved clients. ( walk ins, consultations, day of the appointment) i did see that "customer from hell" post and even though it was sooo funny, i felt so bad for the dude in the blue flame shirt
  8. me and a buddy were talking about machines the other day. i recently aquired an "original" percy waters machine. the previous owner said that he did bastardize it because the vise sucked...!!!!!! wtf!!!! so they chopped it off and just put a new on where the yoke would be(brass)..i asked him what else had been done to it..he said nothing that he knew of except for springs...well that got me to thinking..this machine has a capacitor..waters died in 1952 if i am correct...when did the first capacitors appear on machines?? i thought it was late 60s or 70s but i cant remember who or if that's even close to right...one step closer to that free shirt!! whoo hoo!!!
  9. I have a hand full of these prints available. 12'' x 12'' printed by Jay at Alpha Reprographics on watercolor paper. $25 paypal to stayhopeless@gmail.com Also available in the merch section of my website www.kylecrowell.com
  10. Im getting email notifications when someone comments on a thread I've commented on. Can't find the place to turn this off. Help?
  11. This is something that goes around the various social media networks (facebook, myspace, friendster, etc) every few months and I always enjoy reading others. Today is the first time I have taken part as I was tagged and also daily hit shuffle first thing in the morning everytime i turn on my computer and figured this could be fun on here. So enjoy.... (1) Turn on your MP3 player or music player on your computer. (2) Go to SHUFFLE songs mode. 12. Since most of you are in the "Art" community, I figured you would all love this dude. You all have probably heard of this guy, but its worth it for the people who have not. Brandon Bird paints some of the most ridiculous pictures, and creates the one and only Law and Order: SVU Valentines Day cards. My favorite is Letters to Walken. No need to explain. Just go look. http://www.brandonbird.com/walken_letters.html My favorite.
  13. I think it's good practice and amusing, I'm trying to master drawing richard stell from my head, but haven't mastered it yet (keep making him too skinny) here are 2, I never look at stuff, just try to get the gestures and feel from memory I dunno why 2nd one is sideways, tried to fix it anyone else have any?
  14. So over the past few weeks I've had some conversations outside this forum with people on tattoo coverups and seem to be seeing more than the normal amount for me. I've taken some of the tips from this thread in LST tattoo forum Tattoo Cover up or removal and shared it with the individuals. But have had some observations lead to assumptions that I want to turn to hypothesis by asking on this tattoo forum that I thought could be fun and intriguing. One of my friends was edge at a very young age as she grew up around lots of east coast edge kids that were also family members then broke it a few months after she turned twenty-one. During here teen years see accumulated four different straight edge tattoos. She has been in the process of covering them up for some years now but the one that really catches my eye is this large belly rocker of the three X's covered up by big roses. I understand three large X's in black ink are going to be difficult to cover and the tattooer did a good job except if you look closely then you can totally see them. So my first questions based off of some years observations and now reflections not only with this individual but others are: -Are roses and panthers the most common "objects" used to cover-up tattoos? -What other ones are common "goto" tattoos for tattoo coverups? Onto the other part....so another one of my friends has this tattoo outlined on her back that she refuses to let people see so much that when she's at the beach or other warmer climates she opts to wear a "tank-kini" rather than a bikini as she dislikes the tattoo that much. It is just an outline and spans about three quarters of her back in more of a "frame" manner and not so much the center and wants to do a tattoo cover-up. She has been considering the laser then coverup route and if she was in DC I'd send her to Karl Hedgepath at Jinxproof for laser and coverup but she is in the Bay Area. So the next set of questions: -Bay Area good tattoo laser removal businesses? -Bay Area good tattoo coverup tattooers? -Also to make this more informative for other locations...Who in you opinion does the best tattoo coverup? If you answer this please list the tattooers name, shop, and location (if you know all that info). Of course if you have before and after photos share them!! Thanks and let the schooling begin.........
  15. anything in the works? would people be interested in meeting up? i know some of you see each other on a regular basis so maybe this isn't necessary. just thought it might be kind of fun...
  16. Josh Martin

    hello

Hey all My name is Josh Martin. I am out of mid Missouri and i have been tattooing for about 2 years now. i am just now picking up watercolors as well. I have checked out the forum and it seems like there will be a lot of information and good threads on here soon and i hope i can be a part of that!
  17. Hey All, I have a tattoo of a bull on my upper arm that is about 13 yrs. old, but holding up quite well. The lines are still nice and clean but it is a bit faded. I was thinking about filling up the rest of my upper arm (shoulder to shirt line) with storm clouds, swirls, stars and 3 other zodiac symbols BUT using the existing bull as sort of the central element. I am hoping to get some opinions on whether or not it is a good idea to use this older tattoo as a central element. Thanks!
  18. Good afternoon everyone. I know some people have taken advantage of this section on the forum but many haven't so wanted to send a plug to feel free to post in here so people in your town and/or traveling through know where they can get tattooed or come buy some merch. Here is the small print on the front of this section of how it works: Thanks for being so active on LST and until next time..... Lochlan
  19. so my cheap-ass-built but frickin' expensive travel armrest i got off ebay 2 years ago finally gave up the ghost this weekend, but what did i expect really. i got it because it was small built and easy to carry. now, i know i dont really need one, and theres been a few times i have just used my knee/tissue roll/back of chair and i will again, of course. but for those lazy times, can anyone recommend me where to purchase a fairly small, sturdy armrest? ive checked out ebay (i know i know) and a few high profile tattoo supply online shops but im looking to see of any others i may have missed out on. feel free to message me the url or join in with how frustrating it is to find good hardy armrests! haha
  20. Let me first state that I will not besmirch the name of several fine artists with a "Who is the slowest tattooer?" thread. Instead, let's discuss the fastest of the fast. I'll try to limit this to personal experience, but feel free to mention lightning-fast artists you've witnessed, too. Our very own Scott Sylvia inspired this thread. I was at Forever Tattoo in Sacramento over the weekend and Ian Carder showed me the Rock of Ages backpiece that Scott put on him. He said it took about 15 hours. I guess I should stop being surprised at this point, but damn. Horitaka is also really fast. I have a black and gray falcon from him that takes up most of my shin. It took him an hour. Theo Mindell put a huge dragon head on my knee in only 3 hours--and he kept apologizing for taking so long! I'm not a tattooer, but it seems like the knee cap is moving target. That skin shifts all over the place. And I've never been tattooed by Filip Leu, but no fast tattooer thread would be complete without him. I was lucky enough to see some of the work he did while at Diamond Club, like this tiger that (I think) he completed in 5 hours: Along the same lines, I've never been tattooed by Robert Atkinson, but holy hell, is that guy fast.
  21. hello! this is henry rodriguez i work at scapegoat tattoo in portland oregon you can see my work at http://www.tattoosbyhenry.com/
