Just was inquiring had anything like this happen or heard of it; hubby and I just had more tattoos done. Mine healed just fine with those products ( cream and foam). Hubby used them in the past just fine. But this time his lower arm is just a huge rash, quite painful. Thank God his tattoo did not discolor or anything ( fleur de lys and dagger). But the doctor thinks it is an allergic reaction to those products... Will take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to heal ( some of the sores were bleeding..). Just buyer beware..,,

Hey all, i would like to get any opinions on my new tat. i went in for a 3 hr sit, i wont really get in to the details too much of the tat or the tattooer. the dude completed the tat, suaved it up, put a bandage on it, on my way i went. 2-3 hrs later i remove the bandage no problems, i cleaned it let it dry, patted it out, applied a light coat of aquaphor. it was late i crashed. In the morning the tat looked fine, wash, pat dry aquaphor, i did this for 3 days, then went to lubiderm creme, 4 days now the whole tat was peeling, and had some smaller scabs, on one part i noticed the skin/ink mix part kind of pulled out, it looked funky to me, it scabbed good, this never happened to me on any other i have. so the next day, i pushed some what hard on a3 of the scabs, and a clear liquid, and pus, came out, need i say that one has fallen off, but another scab has now appeared, i think i got a minor infection from the tat, because the shop looks clean, the dude used new tubes, and needles, i never brought that on my tat, i also clean it with bare hand, and use new paper towels, while its healing. so after all that i have 2 questions, the one bad scabbed area is now a scar? what should i say to the dude when i go back for a touch up?

I'm really curious as what you guys do as far as the beach/swimming pools go. We all know how bad sun exposure is for tattoos. Do you avoid these places all together? Or sit in the shade? Or tan with high SPF sunblock on? I personally go to the beach and sit in the sun, putting on SPF50 and reapplying often, is this safe for my tats or should I just stay in the shade? Lets hear your opinions!

I photographed my wifes neck tattoo healing from 24th December to 8th January. The photos are in date order from the 24th December - 31st December. The last one is 8th January. Well on the way to healing now.

So I was skating this weekend and ate shit pretty hard and my forearm got a little mangled up. Its nothing that really looks "deep" but it is a bit scabbed/colored weird from trying to heal itself. Is it going to be fine, what should I do with the scrape/tattoo. I hope I didn't ruin the part that is scraped. - - - Updated - - - Thank you

Hi, I'm going to have an oni mask put in my left armpit. Any healing advise is appreciated...I'm kinda worried about not being able to use deoderant for a while...I think everyone in the office will hate me, lol! Seriously, any experiences or recommendations on healing is appreciated.

I know that prolonged unprotected exposure to the sun will wreck tattoos, but here's my situation. I work 90% indoors. I don't ever go outside without sunscreen on, and haven't had a sunburn since childhood. Despite all this, I tan really dark below my shirt sleeves at the first hint of Spring. I'm just wondering if turning this tan will eventually damage the tattoos. Because of my skin color I've stuck with black and grey tattoos below the shirt sleeves. My only alternative is long sleeves year round and its miserably hot in Tennessee in the summer.

I've had ingrown hairs on my thighs since I was teenager. It gets better in the summer (shorts), worse in the winter (jeans all the time), but the ingrown hairs are always present no matter what. I want large tattoos in those places, but I'm worried about the preexisting ingrowns (exfoliate for awhile before, I know) and about the potential for really bad ones during the healing process. Pro tips or experience with the matter?

I've read a lot of good stuff on how to care for a new tattoo, but what I want to know is how to care for a tattoo in the after years. What were and are your steps to keeping your tattoo looking good years later?

My first tattoo I did was small simple lines I washed once a day and applied lotion a couple of times a day and it scabbed up and faded. Then I got my second tattoo a phoenix on my calf and I washed it once a day, applied Currel lotion to it four times a day, kept it out of the sun, didn't leave it in water everything I thought I should have been doing and it scabbed up real bad and now six months later it looks like there is a little bit of fade and I may have to get it touched up. I have a full rib piece that I just started the lining I washed it, put lotion, did all the same and after a week and a half it still scabbed up and I'm nervous that the same thing that happened to my phoenix will happen to my new piece, is there something I'm missing? I'm going in soon to get my shading started and would like to know what anyone would suggest for sensitive and easiliy scabbed tattoo skin? All advice would be greatly appreciated

It's hot as hell here (105 like 5 days in a row here:() and everyone is swimming...except me. It's been almost two weeks since I was tattooed and I'm still waiting to fully submerge my leg in water. How long do you usually wait til you hit the water?

My tattoo got burned at the pool yesterday. It's not too awful since I did use sunscreen, I guess I just didn't reapply often enough. This has never happened to me before as I'm rarely out in the sun. Anybody do anything special to take care of their tattoos after a sunburn? I can't remember ever hearing anything about it and I was curious.

Im going to be on a fly fishing trip up north the next week am getting a chest piece started this saturday. It will be covered most of the time but when its not I was wondering about putting sun screen on it. Anyone know if thats kosher?

So my tattoo has bee taken very good care of (to the "t"). Weird thing is about a week after shading was done it started to become VERY dry, almost felt like a scab. Every time I applied lotion to it, it would just soak it all up and still be dry (usually 3 light rubbed in coats). Now it is peeling like sunburn and the flakes are black.... Should I be concerned?

So I am starting to hear that summer is a bad season to get tattooed. Other than the obvious downside (no swimming!) is it true that summer is generally busier? Any input from collectors/artists would be great.

Hi from NE Ohio about 1/2 mile from Lake Erie. I've been enjoying reading all of the tattoo stuff from the technical to the funny to great advice. I am an "older" fan of tattoo-way past the 20-something years! I'm working on a sleeve that I started a few years ago-black and gray. I've also developed my own tattoo balm and sell it in my Etsy shop and off my website.

A friend of mine wants to bring her daughter in to get tattooed for the first time but she has Vitiligo. Is tattooing someone with this condition possible? Has anyone had experience with this in the past? How would the condition affect the tattoo?

So my soon to be husband has a tattoo appointment on Dec 29 but our honeymoon starts January 18th. He's only getting line work this first sit. Is that too soon to be swimming? He'll wear sunscreen and all that- we're not really sun bathers. But salty, wet, humid... is this bad? What's the risk? Infection, ruined work, or both?

So the other thread on Best Post Tattoo Care has been very insightful and lots of good advice form both tattooers and tattoo collectors.....So I am wondering what is the number one advice you give your customers for tattoo care? Or maybe rather what is the one thing you want your tattoo customers to remember? The whole experience can be very stimulating and exhausting all in one and often important information is in one ear out the other as the body and mind is overwhelmed so would like to hear the tattooers opinions on this one. Thanks!
