It's been hard to miss the announcements about this all over instagram recently, who is excited for it? I'm really looking forward to it and am really hopeful that this is a proper non-professional equivalent to Tattoo Artist Magazine and while it's maybe unrealistic to expect the depth of that magazine (when I was last getting tattooed I looked at the issue featuring State of Grace, and they had something like a 50 page feature on that shop, and while I would personally love to be able to have access to things like that I think it would be alienating to the vast majority of people who are interested enough in tattoos to read a magazine about them) I hope it offers real substance for people serious about tattoos, and can help educate people about good tattoos.

I know a lot of the time folks complain about receiving negative comments from the non-tattooed about being tattooed. I get my share of stares, but have ever you gotten any compliments from the general population that just made you smile? Normally on the positive side I get "I love {This/That} tattoo", or "Was that done locally?" I smile, nod and answer politely. Not that I ever gave a shit what other people think of me, but I've gotten "You know, you just wouldn't look right without the tattoos." (or words to that effect) on three separate occasions recently. It just made me feel really good.

I am in the process of cleaning/clearing my house out and was cleaning off some of my alters when I rediscovered all sorts of old gems. One particular piece I thought some here would enjoy is an old unused Temple Tattoo Gift Certificate from I think when the shop first opened. I have included pictures below.... What tattoo shop and/or tattooer collectibles have you gathered?

Today as I am getting ready to go get tattooed(again) I am doing my ritual cut things out size them and see what fits where so that this tattoo doesn't affect my plans for my next tattoo or the one after that. Also I want to make sure I utilize my space in the most efficient manner. I mean I guess the end game for all of this is to be covered, and while I still have my back piece to finish and my ribs, I feel I am running short on spots to just go and get tattooed on a whim or on vacation. Some people I talk to are sick of the pain and ready to be done, others are more frustrated than me because they literally have almost no room to get tattooed and everything they want doesn't fit. Anybody here have any perspective on this?

This one's for artists and collectors alike. What's the longest you've ever sat for a tattoo and (for artists) the longest you've ever worked on a client? I've had several 5-hour sessions, which is kinda pushing it, but once, I sat for 9 hours. Without a break. Overnight. File under never again. The worst part is that I didn't really plan for a long session--it just ended up taking forever. I'm sure some of you have some crazy stories, possibly involving Shige, Filip Leu, and/or Chris Trevino. :) For the record, the last 4 tattoos I got took under 3 hours, combined. Much more fun!

So my soon to be husband has a tattoo appointment on Dec 29 but our honeymoon starts January 18th. He's only getting line work this first sit. Is that too soon to be swimming? He'll wear sunscreen and all that- we're not really sun bathers. But salty, wet, humid... is this bad? What's the risk? Infection, ruined work, or both?

Hi, I'm a new member here but not new to tattoos or forums so I hope I can contribute a little. I'm a tattoo collector from CT and I look forward to seeing what's happening around this place. When I get a chance I'll create a gallery of my tattoos and then I think a couple of people might recognize them from another forum although under a different name. I actually got curious about this place from someone posting links on another board. Wedge

Could I suggest that some form of verification for new members would be a good idea. It is so easy to register, in my experience spammers will be in by the dozen any minute.

I understand each person is unique in their healing process and potentially holding ink and color tattoos better than others. But what are the worst things tattoo customers can do to their tattoos right after getting tattooed and long term? Thanks!

So the other thread on Best Post Tattoo Care has been very insightful and lots of good advice form both tattooers and tattoo collectors.....So I am wondering what is the number one advice you give your customers for tattoo care? Or maybe rather what is the one thing you want your tattoo customers to remember? The whole experience can be very stimulating and exhausting all in one and often important information is in one ear out the other as the body and mind is overwhelmed so would like to hear the tattooers opinions on this one. Thanks!

When I get tattooed I usually eat something good and filling and show up with a seltzer or coffee or juice or all three. I've been doing this for years now and realized it's become kind of a ritual.. making sure I have enough time, etc. Afterwards, I almost always pick up a single Budweiser tallboy. Got me thinking because I know everyone has their rituals. Mine are more like "things I usually do" rather than rituals, but I really look forward to doing them on tattoo days. Pushups, meditating, any good OCD stuff??

Hey all, I'm not a tattooer, just into 'em and sometimes I get to write about them and do interviews with folks, which has almost become as addictive as getting tattooed. I've done a bunch of stuff for Inked (which has actually been pretty great, regardless of your opinion of the mag), did a recent piece for a certain UK magazine that will go unnamed that I'll no longer work with and I help out with some online stuff here and there. I try to update my terrible, terrible, terrible blog with stuff I'm doing.

I think it's time that we start addressing a very important subject- beards. Do you have one? Do you love a man or woman with a beard? If you're not sure where to start on this very important topic, you could always repurpose some of our tattoo questions and make them beard appropriate: When did you grow your first beard? Whose beards have you been influenced by? Experiences while traveling with beards? Funniest beard you've seen? Worst beard you've witnessed? Beard removal or coverup? Favorite celebrity beards? And is it okay for Brad Pitt to braid his beard because he's Brad Pitt? Appropriating ideas from other beards? Best beard care? These questions are just for a jumping off point, please don't feel limited by them. And most importantly, we want pictures!

My name is Patrick and I'm a collector from New England. I have a good mix of pieces in my collection, with work from 18 (I think) tattooers so far. Since my daughter came along, I have slowed down quite a bit (with my wife making up for lost time due to the pregnancy, haha). I have a handful of small open areas left, and a couple of large ones. Hopefully I can get started on filling some of that space in the near future. See you in the forums! Cheers!

what's everyone's opinion on this? i know there are some artists out there that feel that if one artist bases their design off of another artist's work, that is stealing. however, almost every artists incorporates the use of designs that have been used for many, many years. what's the difference to you (if there is one)? since i'm not an artist, only a client, i'm just curious to hear what everyone thinks.

Hello to everyone! I'm Robin. Before anyone get's the wrong impression, I like McRad, I'm a girl, and my initials are RAD (yes I'm serious). I'm not full of myself I swear! I'm pretty much a shy, nerdy girl who likes hardcore, photography, and tattoos. I work at a museum, and while it's not always fun, it's usually pretty rewarding. I've been researching about tattoo and body modification history in California over the last 3 weeks so I can't complain too much. I'm slowly getting more and more tattoos. I've got 8 right now, including two that were done by Scott on the back of my arms over 3 years ago. I keep working on getting more coverage, but I'm a slow poke. Hopefully this year will be different.
