so today i am finding myself putting together a book of reference, mostly vintage girl faces i've collected from good old google and friends emailing me cool images. I'm using blurb to put them altogether. thomas hooper used this website to print his skulls book and both me and my other half realised how much cheaper and organized it is to use blurb to compile reference. before id spend good money on printing out photos, binding them and somehow always loose a few along the way, this took a lot of my time obviously! so what im asking is here is what do other tattooers do to compile random pieces of reference they find along the way? i mean my bookcases are bursting with books of course but you know when you find a cool pic and promise yourself to use it next time something similar needs drawing up, and you forget, and even if you remember, its a task to find where you last put it!

So my soon to be husband has a tattoo appointment on Dec 29 but our honeymoon starts January 18th. He's only getting line work this first sit. Is that too soon to be swimming? He'll wear sunscreen and all that- we're not really sun bathers. But salty, wet, humid... is this bad? What's the risk? Infection, ruined work, or both?

I was lookin at your lists in the blogs of who has tattooed you and I have two lists..ones from years ago, like bob shaw, etc and ones newer like mike wilson.... Any how the biggest regret i have is i had a chance to get tattooed by greg irons and....PASSED!!!!!!!!!!! thats right...PASSED!!!!!!!!( i may have told this story elsewhere) I was visiting SF I think it was 82...and we were up there on broadway and greg was working the night shift at deans and he was putting a dragon off the wall on a friend of mine and i was making time with this chick so we went for a walk to a park below broadway like kinda behind the mabuhay gardens and i started picking her locks and never made it back to the shop!!!!!!!!! Of course hindsight is 20 20....and you know....regrets...like trading some PR machines for a set of rare books in 85....losing a 57 goldtop les paul to a pawnshop for 100.00 that hangs in freedom guitar with a 10,000 dollar pricetag...all that was material things...but that tattoo...well that is the pinnacle of regrets for me....I would still have it today.... I cannot even remember the girls name.....

I saw this upcoming 2011 SLC International Tattoo Convention February 18-20, 2001 website after twittering with @dansmithunknown when he posted his new painting for the Tarot Card Art Show. Below in "quotes" is the list of tattooers and tattoo shops from the site where I see many LSTers! We look forward to hearing about the show and seeing some pictures and maybe even some blogs anyone? Is anyone else planning on attending? Will there be a rematch by Nick Colella against Scott Sylvia for arm wrestling? Or another challenger?

I'm pretty sure that the WTF section of the forum is the best place to post this. Here's a link to some of his work, in the off chance that some jackass tries to get a job somewhere using Juan's portfolio. Juan Puente: Tattoos

Hey All, I have a tattoo of a bull on my upper arm that is about 13 yrs. old, but holding up quite well. The lines are still nice and clean but it is a bit faded. I was thinking about filling up the rest of my upper arm (shoulder to shirt line) with storm clouds, swirls, stars and 3 other zodiac symbols BUT using the existing bull as sort of the central element. I am hoping to get some opinions on whether or not it is a good idea to use this older tattoo as a central element. Thanks!

So i just had my appointment with my tattoo artist last night, handed over some of my references. I Will be starting my sleeve January 14th 2011. The theme of the sleeve is going to be life and death. The style of it is going to be a traditional style with an extremely modern twist. So far we have in mind is a two lady heads, one living, the other dead, with a script saying "death comes quick, seek your fortune." And also a skull turning into a heart. I've already sent him tons of references, but if you guys have any cool pictures of skulls (Nick Chaboya, Bob Tyrrell kinda stuff) lady heads, daggers, hearts and whatever you think would be a cool addition to my sleeve that would be really helpful. I will update my progress in this thread as well, its a pretty big deal for me because this will be in an exposed area. thINK Tattoo This is the artist who will be working on my sleeve, if any of you are interested in thinking a look.

I understand that the meanings of tattoos can and often do change over time so I am curious to hear about what you know and/or have heard about tattoo meanings? I will start off with some common tattoos I see and hear similiar stories: Dragon tattoos? Nautical Star tattoos? Sparrow tattoos? Dagger tattoos? Butterfly tattoos? Dove tattoos? Anchor tattoos? Man's Ruin tattoos? Dice tattoos? Eightball tattoos? Do you have one of these tattoo designs? Tells us about it and what it means and post a pic!

So this lady came in the shop the other day to get her ribs worked on, and she brought in this lady to hypnotize her.. long story short, it didn't work. Funny as hell though.

I posted this on another site but thought I'd ask here, also. I'm looking for opinions on which artist (or both) would be better suited to do an owl tattoo for me in a similar style to the tattoo picture I've attached below. I'm including the tattoo pic mainly for style reference and also including links to the two artist's (Oleg, Bez) galleries. Thanks for your time. ( I really love this style of exaggerated realism with color) Oleg's portfolio: Oleg Turyanskiy : Tattoos : Page 1 Bez's portfolio: Tattoos - Bez - Heart Tattoo So, I want a realistic owl similar in style and color to the tattoo picture above and wondering if either Oleg or Bez would be better suited or if it really matters. They are obviously both amazing artists but with different styles and I'm not sure if it would really matter which one I should pursue. Both artists have expressed interest in doing the piece next fall, one at a convention and the other at a shop guest spot. Thoughts, please?

Hi, I'm a new member here but not new to tattoos or forums so I hope I can contribute a little. I'm a tattoo collector from CT and I look forward to seeing what's happening around this place. When I get a chance I'll create a gallery of my tattoos and then I think a couple of people might recognize them from another forum although under a different name. I actually got curious about this place from someone posting links on another board. Wedge

So the other thread on Best Post Tattoo Care has been very insightful and lots of good advice form both tattooers and tattoo collectors.....So I am wondering what is the number one advice you give your customers for tattoo care? Or maybe rather what is the one thing you want your tattoo customers to remember? The whole experience can be very stimulating and exhausting all in one and often important information is in one ear out the other as the body and mind is overwhelmed so would like to hear the tattooers opinions on this one. Thanks!
