  3. Found this article today, its a few months old but interesting nonetheless. "What do you think when you see a woman with a tattoo? This is not a question with a right or wrong answer; this is a question of perception. So I guess, the real question is, “How do you perceive a woman with a tattoo in society? Does it affect how you judge her?” Of course it does. As much as a woman’s blond hair or pretty face leads her to be judged. But a tattoo isn’t the result of DNA, it’s a choice, an assertion. But how did tattoos become taboo for women, and most importantly where can we go from here?..." Guest Post: Feminism & Tattoos: A Woman For all the ladies out there, do you feel like you are percieved differently due to your tattoos? Heavily tattooed women, if you didnt notice a difference with your first few pieces, have you noticed something different the more covered you become? I want to hear from the gents as well! What do you think? Do you noticed more women getting slag about their work than men?
  4. here is a couple new tattoos and a painting. hope everyone is doing well.
  5. I know that there is Tattoo artists and collectors here. I just wondering what your thoughts are on the Tattoo artists that sign their work. Good idea, bad idea, or do you care either way? I've been surfing on the web and have seen some tattoos with what appears to be a signature along with it. I personally do not think that its a good idea. You went to an artist that you choose and you know who it was, if they have a unique style everyone will know who did the tattoo. That alone should be the signature.
  6. so today i am finding myself putting together a book of reference, mostly vintage girl faces i've collected from good old google and friends emailing me cool images. I'm using blurb to put them altogether. thomas hooper used this website to print his skulls book and both me and my other half realised how much cheaper and organized it is to use blurb to compile reference. before id spend good money on printing out photos, binding them and somehow always loose a few along the way, this took a lot of my time obviously! so what im asking is here is what do other tattooers do to compile random pieces of reference they find along the way? i mean my bookcases are bursting with books of course but you know when you find a cool pic and promise yourself to use it next time something similar needs drawing up, and you forget, and even if you remember, its a task to find where you last put it!
  7. Hey everybody, my names cory and im in the process of getting a half sleeve from Devon Casey at stone age tattoos check it out and lemme know what u think :D

  10. Hi - im new here, but i figured as i was going to make this thread there wasnt much point in making another to introduce myself. Im 18, and just moved to a new country (huge change in my short life) and away from my parents, who have been my biggest supporters in everything ive ever done, and have always been there for me, so i thought i might get a tattoo to remember them. As i said in the title this will be my first real tattoo, i was pretty stupid and got a tattoo from a homemade gun a while ago, came out terribly but ill get it fixed eventually (i know, im an idiot, try not to make fun of me for that) anyway this is a really rough sketch i did, im absolutely un-artistic, so dont laugh, its just a basic idea. I want the ying yang part because my parents are polar opposits, but they work so well together, and 20+ years on i think they're still in love. The koi fish was just a way to represent each of them, one fish is going to be a more masculine blue, while the other is a more femanine orange or something along those lines. Hopefully ill find a good artist to take my idea and make an amazing peice of art out of it, and make it into a half sleeve. So what do you think? Good idea, bad idea? Think it will make a good tattoo? Thanks for your opinions. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  11. I saw this upcoming 2011 SLC International Tattoo Convention February 18-20, 2001 website after twittering with @dansmithunknown when he posted his new painting for the Tarot Card Art Show. Below in "quotes" is the list of tattooers and tattoo shops from the site where I see many LSTers! We look forward to hearing about the show and seeing some pictures and maybe even some blogs anyone? Is anyone else planning on attending? Will there be a rematch by Nick Colella against Scott Sylvia for arm wrestling? Or another challenger?
  12. Post images of things and people that you find rad, gnarly, far-out or inspirational. I'll go first... [images removed after they became broken..]
  13. I'm pretty sure that the WTF section of the forum is the best place to post this. Here's a link to some of his work, in the off chance that some jackass tries to get a job somewhere using Juan's portfolio. Juan Puente: Tattoos
  14. So i just had my appointment with my tattoo artist last night, handed over some of my references. I Will be starting my sleeve January 14th 2011. The theme of the sleeve is going to be life and death. The style of it is going to be a traditional style with an extremely modern twist. So far we have in mind is a two lady heads, one living, the other dead, with a script saying "death comes quick, seek your fortune." And also a skull turning into a heart. I've already sent him tons of references, but if you guys have any cool pictures of skulls (Nick Chaboya, Bob Tyrrell kinda stuff) lady heads, daggers, hearts and whatever you think would be a cool addition to my sleeve that would be really helpful. I will update my progress in this thread as well, its a pretty big deal for me because this will be in an exposed area. thINK Tattoo This is the artist who will be working on my sleeve, if any of you are interested in thinking a look.
  15. Every time I watch the movie Eastern Promises or see and flip through one of the various Russian Criminal Tattoo books (Volume I, Volume II, or the newer one Volume III) I am reminded of the beauty, significances, true tattoo stories, and rawness of these tattoos. There's a neighborhood in San Francisco were I used to spend some time in regularly drinking coffee and eating pastries when on some lucky occasions I would get to bear witness to one or some of these historically rich tattoos. On only a few occasions the individuals would see me checking out there tattoos and would notice mine so conversations would follow or they would see me looking at theirs notice mine and give me a nod. The few stories I've gotten to hear were amazing and I can only imagine they were censored for my ears. The combinations of religious and spiritual imagery mixed with deeper unique meanings I can never get enough of. So this thread is a place to share your Russian Tattoo Designs, pictures, and stories. I have attached some images I got off of the internet because I have never felt right asking those I've seen with these tattoos for pictures, go figure. Thanks! 16. I posted this on another site but thought I'd ask here, also. I'm looking for opinions on which artist (or both) would be better suited to do an owl tattoo for me in a similar style to the tattoo picture I've attached below. I'm including the tattoo pic mainly for style reference and also including links to the two artist's (Oleg, Bez) galleries. Thanks for your time. ( I really love this style of exaggerated realism with color) Oleg's portfolio: Oleg Turyanskiy : Tattoos : Page 1 Bez's portfolio: Tattoos - Bez - Heart Tattoo So, I want a realistic owl similar in style and color to the tattoo picture above and wondering if either Oleg or Bez would be better suited or if it really matters. They are obviously both amazing artists but with different styles and I'm not sure if it would really matter which one I should pursue. Both artists have expressed interest in doing the piece next fall, one at a convention and the other at a shop guest spot. Thoughts, please?
  17. Doin $50 for this set. $80 for this and the older one together. Hit me up.
  18. have a rock of ages pic that I want to modify and was wondering if someone could help me with it,someone that can draw or point me to a site or someone that can.
  19. This one's for artists and collectors alike. What's the longest you've ever sat for a tattoo and (for artists) the longest you've ever worked on a client? I've had several 5-hour sessions, which is kinda pushing it, but once, I sat for 9 hours. Without a break. Overnight. File under never again. The worst part is that I didn't really plan for a long session--it just ended up taking forever. I'm sure some of you have some crazy stories, possibly involving Shige, Filip Leu, and/or Chris Trevino. :) For the record, the last 4 tattoos I got took under 3 hours, combined. Much more fun!
  20. So my soon to be husband has a tattoo appointment on Dec 29 but our honeymoon starts January 18th. He's only getting line work this first sit. Is that too soon to be swimming? He'll wear sunscreen and all that- we're not really sun bathers. But salty, wet, humid... is this bad? What's the risk? Infection, ruined work, or both?

    Hey

Hi there. Thought I should introduce myself before I go into full on lurking mode... Friend posted a link on Facebook - that's how I got here. Looking forward to checking out the site even more; thanks for having me. I get tattoos I don't give them. ~ Rita

    What's up?

Hi, I'm a new member here but not new to tattoos or forums so I hope I can contribute a little. I'm a tattoo collector from CT and I look forward to seeing what's happening around this place. When I get a chance I'll create a gallery of my tattoos and then I think a couple of people might recognize them from another forum although under a different name. I actually got curious about this place from someone posting links on another board. Wedge
  23. OK I am not asking anyone to design a tattoo before I get flamed. I have had a great offer from 4 tattoo artists I work with regarding my sleeve. The plan so far is for the 4 of them to get together with a big old sheet of paper and drawing supplies plus me and my blank arm. What happens next is kind of competative drawing with each artist doing a piece and biding for space. I am hoping that by the end of the night or the end of the booze at least we will have a pile of super cool pictures and a stencil for my arm. Tattooing of the outline is a job for the next day and each artist will then complete there designs over a few months. Firstly does this sound as good an idea to you guys as it does to me? Secondly I must have missed an important pitfall somewhere what is it? Lastly I have a list of must have elements for a hotrod sleve but I would welcome your ideas so I dont forget any classics.
