I was searching the internet, the other night, for any information on the history of tattooing in the UK, when I stumbled on this. It’s a tattoo museum in Liverpool , UK. On the site they had some photos of antique tattoo machines powered by clockwork. I would have though these predate the electric tattoo machine and were made by a company called Newton & Wilson. Further searches on the internet indicates they specialised in making sewing machines. Does anyone know anything about these or this type of machine. Where they used in the USA? Did they catch on for a short while before becoming made obsolete by the advent of the electric powered version.? They look as if they are beautifully made and were probably quite expensive. I’m fascinated by old stuff like this, although my thing is restoring antique firearms. I thought I would post some photos on here, courtesy of the Liverpool Tattoo Museum. www.Tattoomuseum.co.uk tattoo museum liverpool - Milton Zeis. There’s of lot of other interesting stuff on the site, as well.

by Micky Sharpz is for sale on Ebay for about £55.00. Seems a bit sharp for a dvd. Has anyone seen it, is it any good, can you recommend an alternative?

Since I'm left handed, I thought this might be a good topic. How many of you guys are left handed tattooers, and if you are, do you use left handed machines? I've never used one, but does it make that big of a difference? I've only been tattooing for a few years, and never really thought about it until recently, but does anyone else have experience using them?

One of the guys that I work with, has expressed interest in building a few machines. I've always been interested in building machines, and metal work has been something that I always had fun doing. My question for you guys, since I know there are a few machine builders here, is have you ever used frames that you had cut from a water jet machine? I have a buddy that runs a shop, and he has said he would like to help us out, by cutting a few frames that way for us. Were trying to weigh the pros and cons of this. Has anyone tried this?

So my soon to be husband has a tattoo appointment on Dec 29 but our honeymoon starts January 18th. He's only getting line work this first sit. Is that too soon to be swimming? He'll wear sunscreen and all that- we're not really sun bathers. But salty, wet, humid... is this bad? What's the risk? Infection, ruined work, or both?

okay, so, first off...i'm not sure if this is the place to ask this on here or not, so somebody let me know, haha. I'm considering getting a Northeast shader frame to do a build on...does anybody have an opinion on these frames? Good? Bad? I'm assuming the brass ones are pretty hefty... And what happened to Paulo Fernando frames? I built on a few and really liked em...now poof! I cannot yet make frames...and really enjoy doing builds. Cheers!

me and a buddy were talking about machines the other day. i recently aquired an "original" percy waters machine. the previous owner said that he did bastardize it because the vise sucked...!!!!!! wtf!!!! so they chopped it off and just put a new on where the yoke would be(brass)..i asked him what else had been done to it..he said nothing that he knew of except for springs...well that got me to thinking..this machine has a capacitor..waters died in 1952 if i am correct...when did the first capacitors appear on machines?? i thought it was late 60s or 70s but i cant remember who or if that's even close to right...one step closer to that free shirt!! whoo hoo!!!

So I think I'm in the clear for asking this question... at least I hope since Im not asking for anything application related... but I was wondering what everyone uses to carry their gear in when traveling? I've been looking at the huge pelican cases but wanted to know if there is anything better I should be looking at? Thanks. if somehow i crossed a line with someone by asking this... then sorry.

Thought I would share some machine ideas with you guys. I like building single coil machines so here are a few designs. The first one is an antique looking standard sprung machine. I love building knarly old looking stuff. The second is an adjustable compression spring design that I came up with that works really well. The third is a design that took me a while to get the right setup but I finally got it. Really lite weight due to no sideplate and these things are badass. Larry
