I'm pretty sure that the WTF section of the forum is the best place to post this. Here's a link to some of his work, in the off chance that some jackass tries to get a job somewhere using Juan's portfolio. Juan Puente: Tattoos

Tonight I was looking around the various pages/links we have under the LST Preferred Tattoo Professionals and enjoyed them all as I always try to visit these various pages to see what's going down around the world regularly. But the one I must share tonight is Luke Wessman's who is always doing awesome tattoos but also maybe because I am getting ready to head south for sometime and am dreaming of better days with money to get tattooed but stuck looking at pictures because if I had the paper I would be getting tattooed by him while down there! Below are two recent pictures he posted plus I found this little bit he wrote on Scott so it became even more relevant for the site. Any LSTers have any of his tattoos and pictures? Hope you enjoy not only the below but his site and tattoos as much as I often do....

Every time I watch the movie Eastern Promises or see and flip through one of the various Russian Criminal Tattoo books (Volume I, Volume II, or the newer one Volume III) I am reminded of the beauty, significances, true tattoo stories, and rawness of these tattoos. There's a neighborhood in San Francisco were I used to spend some time in regularly drinking coffee and eating pastries when on some lucky occasions I would get to bear witness to one or some of these historically rich tattoos. On only a few occasions the individuals would see me checking out there tattoos and would notice mine so conversations would follow or they would see me looking at theirs notice mine and give me a nod. The few stories I've gotten to hear were amazing and I can only imagine they were censored for my ears. The combinations of religious and spiritual imagery mixed with deeper unique meanings I can never get enough of. So this thread is a place to share your Russian Tattoo Designs, pictures, and stories. I have attached some images I got off of the internet because I have never felt right asking those I've seen with these tattoos for pictures, go figure. Thanks! Here are some other threads that may perk your interest if you like this one: Old Tattoo Designs Tattoo Definitions Was tattooing as popular 100 years ago? I posted this on another site but thought I'd ask here, also. I'm looking for opinions on which artist (or both) would be better suited to do an owl tattoo for me in a similar style to the tattoo picture I've attached below. I'm including the tattoo pic mainly for style reference and also including links to the two artist's (Oleg, Bez) galleries. Thanks for your time. ( I really love this style of exaggerated realism with color) Oleg's portfolio: Oleg Turyanskiy : Tattoos : Page 1 Bez's portfolio: Tattoos - Bez - Heart Tattoo So, I want a realistic owl similar in style and color to the tattoo picture above and wondering if either Oleg or Bez would be better suited or if it really matters. They are obviously both amazing artists but with different styles and I'm not sure if it would really matter which one I should pursue. Both artists have expressed interest in doing the piece next fall, one at a convention and the other at a shop guest spot. Thoughts, please?

Tattoo trends come and go through "larger" society but many of the tattooers on here have been in the trade of tattooing for some time now and have seen things circle through and also see certain tattoo designs stay popular amongst specific communities. So I am wondering what tattoo designs can you not see enough of? As well as what tattoos can you never get sick of drawing and tattooing? Thanks!

Not sure if this the right place to do this or not, but I wil do it anyhow. I was wondering if any of you had been tattooed by Higgs. That was one of my big regrets, I would love to have some of his work. I have a couple of friends who have, but there are not a lot of pictures on the internet of his work and I would love to see more of it. One of the shops I go to has a couple sheets of his flash and I think it is pretty awesome. Kenny

whatup all, this place looks solid. i'm not very good @ introductions because i don't really like to talk about myself. but i suppose the relevant facts are that i'm new here, living in northern cali, and a tattoo geek. i've collected about 80 hours of work so far, with pieces from the likes of tim kern, bob tyrrell, erin chance, seth wood, gunnar, jesse smith, josh duffy, and joshua carlton. and, umm, i don't plan to stop anytime soon. :) i look fwd to both learning and contributing on here. peas, j (edit: oops, didn't see the intro section. mods, feel free to move.)

Not a religious person but I've always had a fascination with the art and stories that surround various religions. My house is covered in various spiritual/religious art including many of my tattoos. So the other day when hanging out at Temple Tattoo in Oakland with friends since we were in the neighborhood running an errand I realized we haven't discussed it on Last Sparrow Tattoo yet. I am always amazed when I step into Temple not only for the quality of work that has continuously come out of that shop and the various tattooers that are/have worked there but just the visual stimulus of the shop itself. Tattoo 13, Freddy Corbin's, other shop in Oakland is just as amazing and found myself in there a few weeks back just observing the art as well. Both shops are like religious and spiritual museums and the tattoos just as high of quality. I am a fan of in my tattoos and many art pieces I do have various saints as well as taking religious ideas and adding a touch of a darker Dia De Los Muertos to them. So as that jumping off point lets talk about religious and/or spiritual tattoos, tattoo designs from crosses, Jesus, Mary's, Saints, angels, cherubs, guardian angels to Buddhist influenced tattoos to Stars of David to ?????? And of course we love tattoo pictures!

I never really listened to Lil Wayne but after doing the Three Questions with Sammy Winston and his musical suggestion of the 500 Days of Weezy suggestion I have discovered his genius. I listen to rap and hip hop on and off for many years but only a few of the rappers actually get me stoked. Which is why I don't listen to too much punk these days but more hardcore because less and less punk bands give me that feeling I used to get. But this is a forum thread on Lil Wayne so I'll try to keep my rambling on other genres to a minimum. So he was released from serving an eight month stint at Rikker's and his re-emergence into the general public is this big deal. His lines are one-liners that turn to verse after verse of comedy and deep thoughts. Yes I just said deep thoughts and some musicians have it and some don't. I would put him up there as one of the classics next to Cat Stevens. HAHA, yeah I just put Lil Wayne and Cat Stevens as a comparison what? Shit he just may end up sampling some Cat Stevens for the next new Lil Wayne album? He is in the studio in Miami right now!!!????!!!!

Since Chicago Tattoo has been on the same 2 blocks for almost 40 years we get alot of people who come in with old work from Cliff Raven and Dale Grande so i try to take photos of these tattoos to document them. I often see old timers walking around the neighborhood or in the grocery store and see their tattoos and try to ask about them and photo them, there is just something about talking to old dudes about their tattoos that gets their attention and for the most part gets them into talking about where they got in and when and sometimes they can remember who it was. Im sure we all do this so i wanted to start a little thread and put up pics of old tattoos that we have all documented. The first three tattoos where done at Cliff Raven Studios (Chicago Tattoo) by Cliff Raven in approximately 1970.. since i cant figure out how to make these images larger you can click on them to get a better look. i look forward to the pics Nick

The thing I love most about knuckle tattoos is the need to be clever within a predefined container of 8 (or 10) letters. Plus it's just some good ol fashion stupid fun to come up with new ones! I think my current favs are: BOOK WORM and TRUE GENT

Let me first state that I will not besmirch the name of several fine artists with a "Who is the slowest tattooer?" thread. Instead, let's discuss the fastest of the fast. I'll try to limit this to personal experience, but feel free to mention lightning-fast artists you've witnessed, too. Our very own Scott Sylvia inspired this thread. I was at Forever Tattoo in Sacramento over the weekend and Ian Carder showed me the Rock of Ages backpiece that Scott put on him. He said it took about 15 hours. I guess I should stop being surprised at this point, but damn. Horitaka is also really fast. I have a black and gray falcon from him that takes up most of my shin. It took him an hour. Theo Mindell put a huge dragon head on my knee in only 3 hours--and he kept apologizing for taking so long! I'm not a tattooer, but it seems like the knee cap is moving target. That skin shifts all over the place. And I've never been tattooed by Filip Leu, but no fast tattooer thread would be complete without him. I was lucky enough to see some of the work he did while at Diamond Club, like this tiger that (I think) he completed in 5 hours: Along the same lines, I've never been tattooed by Robert Atkinson, but holy hell, is that guy fast.

So I know each person is different and sex can also come into play as females are "built" to handle more pain than males. So lets see what the most painful spot is to get tattooed? For me, it was the ribs and right now the inside upper thigh near my well you know. The under side of the arm near the arm pit tickled as I am a very ticklish person but know this can hurt for lots of people. So lets hear it and of course if you've got pictures you know we want to see them!
