  1. Got this done when I was 18 and it's been a battle of it bugging me every day due to it's flaws. It was touched up when I got the inside done, but poseidons anatomy is off in certain places and some of the old purple was hard to rework, so it's obvious to me anyway. Would lasering it even help since its not exactly faded and got some heavy black? Or should I just get more well-done tattoos to distract the fact and just chalk it up to lesson learned?
  2. 4 laser sessions over 1 year period Wish I had a before photo first photo is after the laser, but was black line work to start with, still looks like a cover up but was able to get some color in it as well
  3. Before you decide to do 'non-laser' tattoo removal, have a look at this. 2 years after a single treatment and the client is left with pinkish-white scarring. They came to see my yesterday so we could start fading this with FDA approved lasers in hopes they will be able to get it covered up. I don't do 'non-laser' tattoo removal, but if you have questions in general about what I do or how it works, please ask me. This type of scarring is not a fair trade-off in my mind.
  4. I'm getting ready to have a consultation with a local dermatologist which is going to cost me $100 and if I decide to go with them that will go toward the first treatment. I'm a little worried though, the receptionist told me over the phone that the least she's seen someone spend is $250 and I'm sure that was a tiny tattoo... I'm looking to lighten my whole back :( I'm willing to pay a little extra for a local convenience but at the same time, I don't want to be bent over on the price. I'm in Santa Barbara but I'm willing to drive to LA if it's worth it. Any suggestions?
  5. Hows it going? My names Lacey...I'm from fl. I've been getting random ink since I was legally able and I've kind of gotten into a bad situation. I joined the forum because I do have a passion for the ink and I love seeing how creative people can be and their own ideas. My situation happened whenever my main tattoo guy went mia and it took several years for me to find him. Since I couldn't find him I went ahead and tried out a new guy that had a decent rep at the local tatt shop...needless to say I gave him my idea and he drew it up nicely. What didn't happen properly was the placement of a couple things...i'll post them later so you can see and the line was crap. as soon as I saw it I just stopped him, we shared words and I left. Right now I cant really leave my state and cant afford to go to the derm to get it lasered so I'm looking for a shop in fl that does it at a decent price...and I finally got found my old tatt guy, he'd had to go to NY for his mom. After he saw what I had to work with he agreed to work with me and help me cover it up, but some of it has to be faded and he has a couple tats he would like to get rid of himself....any help would be awesome and I don't mind conversing with random people...so if you ever want to chat, hit me up
  6. So, I know the PC answer here is that our children must wait until they are 18 like everyone else, BUT... I know of 2 instances where someone let their kid get tattooed before 18 and I sort of don't have a problem with it (for them). Seems hypocritical since I made my son wait until his 18th birthday and threatened him that if he got a tattoo from anyone but my husband he would NEVER get tattooed at our shop and also filled his head with all types of cleanliness, health and safety issue horrors, all in an effort to keep him from going elsewhere or letting some sketchy sketcher fuck him up before he turned 18. In our case it worked. He waited and got a really nice tattoo for his birthday. But... SEVERAL of his friends have gotten tattooed before age 18 in street shops, just walkin in. WTF? Anyhow, the first person I heard of was a guest tattooer at our friends' shop in Denver. His daughter had been begging for a tattoo since she was about 8 years old. He kept putting her off and making her wait, thinking she would grow out of it and change her mind. She didn't and by 12 years old was talking about it non-stop. So then he set up a series of goals and expectations for school work and chores and behavior, and told her if she did it all she could get a (tiny) tattoo. He figured she would never be able to comply with the entire list. She did everything he asked her to do. So, then he was kind of stuck and had to honor his word so he gave her a tiny dime sized star on her shoulder. (Her name is Estrella.) That parlayed into 3 more stars, one for each family member so she now has 4 little stars. I still think 12 is too young, but after hearing the entire explanation from this guy it somehow started to sound ok in this instance. The second is an acquaintance of mine who's let her son who is 15 get a few tattoos. (I think he has 4 or 5 now.) He's grown up in a tattoo shop and will most likely tattoo for a living. I think he is already learning. And there are other circumstances that I won't mention here, but if you knew this family, Im telling you it just wouldn't seem that weird for mom to allow this. In my mind 15 is different than 12, but both are not 18 at the end of the day. I think my final stand is that it's not ok for my family but I can see how it might be ok for others. Mind you these are parents (or friends of the parents) tattooing their own kids in their own shops. Im not in any way suggesting that one should ever tattoo a minor that you didn't personally know, even if the parents were there. I know my husband would never do it, under any circumstance. So the question of this thread is... is it ever ok?
  7. at fade fast. my arm is super swollen. and not like painful-because-of-bruising swollen. but more like lymphadema elephant man swollen. it doesnt hurt at all, but it sucks. is this normal? any advice on how to handle this? about the treatment- its NOT painful. uncomfertable- yes. in fact the only time it hurt was when i was thinkng about what its comparable too. my experience was more like tiny pin pricks and stinging. there were some foot wagging and teeth grinding moments, but never was i ready to take a break or praying for it to be over with. there is no way to say it hurts more or less than getting a tattoo, because theyre two different feelings- apples and oranges. off the bat, all of my shading as knocked out and some black areas were gone or very faded. it also stings like a sunburn an hour or two after treatment. again, nothing bad. my arm is full of huge blisters now also. they do not hurt, just look gnarley. i was scared as hell going into this, nobody should be. its seriously not that bad or as crazy as it looks.. - - - Updated - - - which also makes me think, everything ive read or seen- the prices people are charged, the agony people are put through, and especially the results people are getting, it is VERY important to travel to see somebody with a rep in the tattoo community to get this done.
  8. So i've been getting a couple of pieces removed with laser and wondered what other laser technicians have said is good aftercare for customers. Ive been using Aloe-99 cold processed aloe vera gel as soon as i get home. by then the treated area is beginning to swell and is red hot. I'll wash the area with some dr bronners liquid soap (i use it at home and the tattoo shop) and apply the aloe vera gel straight away. i will repeat almost as soon as the last batch was absorbed and do this as many times as i can before bed, then i have recently discovered that if i wrap up my leg (thats where the offending tattoos are) with lots of the gel for the first day following treatment (and change the dressing a few times during the day), the swelling is minimized and the discomfort is minimal without clothes rubbing on it all day. i'm on day 3 since my last treatment (ive had 3 on one and 4 on the other) and bruising has def taken over and the mad itching begins. no one told me how insanely itchy lasered skin gets, holy shit! it's primal, you cant stop yourself, ill even wake myself up in the middle of the night full on scratching with all my nails. also it goes without saying that laser treatment needs the patience of a saint and shouldnt be taken lightly, for a start it hurts WAY more than the original tattoo ever did, it's not a quick way to remove or lighten any tattoos, it's expensive over time. i know people whove been trying to laser off medium sized plain black tattoos for a couple of years and they are only beginning to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. your lasered tattoo WILL look like shit for the whole period of time you are treating it ( i reckon it looks a bit like mouldy bread), i'm lucky cos mine are on my legs and i got so many tattoos around them you almost don't notice somethings amiss unless you know what youre looking at. i only recommend laser to my customers if they want a cover up anyway and it's gonna help lighten the original tattoo. ive seen that laser just aint the magic cure to completely get rid of tattoos. ps. once it's all over and it's time for the cover ups i will post before and after pics, but really, it's not gonna be for a frickin long while!
  9. So my name is Wes and I'm the owner of a Tattoo Removal business in South Tampa, FL. Before you gawk at at the thought of removing tattoos, a big potion of our tattoo removal business is for individuals like yourselves that might have just run out of real estate and need to remove an old or undesirable tattoo so that they can add a new piece. I'm joining to hopefully provide better insight into the tattoo removal business and the available options out there, so your'll find me in the coverup / removal threads most of the time. I myself have a few tattoos none that I've wanted to remove (yet), but I have tested our lasers out of curiosity. Feel free to ask me anything and I'll do my best to give a honest / educated answer. Looking forward to becoming acquainted with the Last Sparrow community. Wes
  10. I just thought this was an interesting read. the full article is here: Reformed skinhead endures agony to remove tattoos here is part of the article...it is pretty long...
  11. so i went through a really dark patch a few months ago, and in a state of unmatched disregard i got a tattoo on my shoulder of my dog with a heart and flowers around it. very cutesie, and though beautifully done it is not my style at all and i've come to really hate it i'd like to remove the dog (fortunately it's black) and, if possible put in it's place an eagle or something. really anything. two questions: 1) this tattoo was done by Eli Quinters at smith street, who i deeply respect as both a tattooer and as a super nice person. should i tell him that i would like to remove / replace the dog in the heart? should i give him the opportunity to operate on his own work? or should i take the job elsewhere. i do intend to get more work from him in the future..perhaps i could just not show him that arm 2) what do you think is possible as far as a coverup / re-working? again, i only intend to remove the dog. i think that attempting a full cover-up / removal would be a bit ambitious. thanks all.
  12. I figured I'd document my laser sessions here for those that would like to follow along. The Woman doing it is the Physicians Assistant for a Dermatologist near my house. At my consultation she said she could do half at a time and today she said the reason was that if there was a negative reaction it would be on only half of the area rather than the whole thing. Today she said as long as this goes well she could probably do the whole thing in one session and after todays session it doesn't seem like it should be a problem, she did much more than half today. They use the Medlite C6 which is, from what I understand, one of the best lasers on the market. I'm happy with the outcome so far, the skin isn't broken or anything and there's no blistering. My wife got something removed by another Dermatologist on her finger and it blistered and bled like a motherfucker. I'm not sure if she could have hit it harder today but I'd rather she not and not have it be a big bloody mess. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do what I can to answer :D Here's before... And after todays session which I understand will lighten more over the next 6 weeks as my body absorbs the ink... I'm getting the rest done on the 7th and from there I'll go back as my bank account allows me...
  13. Note to the moderators, this is my leg, tattoo removal being done on me, not a client / stranger / randoms. Back in 1997 I started what I hoped would be an epic leg sleeve - and ended up falling out of love with it about a year or two later. I also added to the back, by a different artist, a totally random piece to what you see here and what's on the side. By 1999 I had zero intention of actually finishing it and started focusing more on work, a career and things like that. Since then I've had several other tattoos that I actually like, but have always dealt with what's that? whenever I wear shorts. Thus, I started having them removed a while ago. Since this piece was mostly grey wash, and put in rather lightly, I've had some really great results after a single treatment. Thursday night I sat through a 2nd treatment on this piece and had 1st treatments on the right side of my leg and a piece on the back. Healing is going well already and hopefully by the second week of January I can get another treatment.
  14. The tattoo isn't even poorly done, and it doesn't look like he has any other work. Strange that you would get a tattoo of that size (which obviously required multiple sittings) and then regret it enough to laser it.
  15. So over the past few weeks I've had some conversations outside this forum with people on tattoo coverups and seem to be seeing more than the normal amount for me. I've taken some of the tips from this thread in LST tattoo forum Tattoo Cover up or removal and shared it with the individuals. But have had some observations lead to assumptions that I want to turn to hypothesis by asking on this tattoo forum that I thought could be fun and intriguing. One of my friends was edge at a very young age as she grew up around lots of east coast edge kids that were also family members then broke it a few months after she turned twenty-one. During here teen years see accumulated four different straight edge tattoos. She has been in the process of covering them up for some years now but the one that really catches my eye is this large belly rocker of the three X's covered up by big roses. I understand three large X's in black ink are going to be difficult to cover and the tattooer did a good job except if you look closely then you can totally see them. So my first questions based off of some years observations and now reflections not only with this individual but others are: -Are roses and panthers the most common "objects" used to cover-up tattoos? -What other ones are common "goto" tattoos for tattoo coverups? Onto the other part....so another one of my friends has this tattoo outlined on her back that she refuses to let people see so much that when she's at the beach or other warmer climates she opts to wear a "tank-kini" rather than a bikini as she dislikes the tattoo that much. It is just an outline and spans about three quarters of her back in more of a "frame" manner and not so much the center and wants to do a tattoo cover-up. She has been considering the laser then coverup route and if she was in DC I'd send her to Karl Hedgepath at Jinxproof for laser and coverup but she is in the Bay Area. So the next set of questions: -Bay Area good tattoo laser removal businesses? -Bay Area good tattoo coverup tattooers? -Also to make this more informative for other locations...Who in you opinion does the best tattoo coverup? If you answer this please list the tattooers name, shop, and location (if you know all that info). Of course if you have before and after photos share them!! Thanks and let the schooling begin.........
  16. Caught this video on Vimeo. Not the smartest thing to do. Watch NDIY tattoo removal on Vimeo!
  17. This was a cover up tattoo. What was underneath was much much worse than this. It was very colorful so there werent that many options to cover it up. We decided to do a Hannya mask. I know it´s not a good tattoo but how bad is it really in your opinion? I am planning on making it a full sleeve so that there is more color in the front and I am planning on adding more tattoos so that this isn't always the main focus. Please be brutally honest.
  18. Any recommendations for laser removal in the bay?? I have a upper arm peice I want lightened enough to go over. Thanks!!!!
  19. I recently made a big mistake by getting a piece done by someone that just wanted to get me in a chair and take my money, after the first session i never went back because as you can see it turned out really bad.I need to know if what i have can be covered? i also have an old tribal band that i would like to cover as well, I live in Whittier, CA and I'm looking for the right Artist that can fix my problem, i have considered Laser Removal but that would be my last option, do you think there is anyone that can fix this and complete a full sleeve. Thanks
  20. Hey guys, new to the forum, was hoping to get some advice on what I can do with this half sleeve. I'd like to cover up or at the very least rework a large portion, but I'm not entirely sure whats possible. There is a lot of colour in it, so would I need to keep to large black and grey designs, or would I need to cover over with an intricate colourful design? Unfortunately moved away from my usual artist so still have to find a good artist locally to talk to. Any help appreciated! Cheers
  21. I would like to know what is the best way to find a good cover-up tattoo Artist? Can every tattoo artist do a cover-up? Do all Artist like to do cover-ups? I'm having a real hard time finding one that has cover-up experience, i have found a few that say they are experts, but after looking at their work i get the feeling that the reason why they are the only ones that do it is because no one else in the shop wants to do it. Their work is not very impressive! So what do you look for on an Artist that does cover-ups? If there is any Artist out there in California that can fix/re-work or cover what i have please contact me.
  22. Just wondering what the general consensus is among the tattoo community for having laser removal on-premises in tattoo parlours. Have machines ready to go but thought i'd test the water first before launching it. Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks. ;)
  23. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/10/26/australian-man-tattoos-lewd-image-friends/?test=latestnews Australian Tattoo Artist Allegedly Inks Lewd Image on Friend's Back Published October 26, 2010 A 21-year-old Australian man has been charged with assault after allegedly tattooing an image of a penis on his friend's back, according to the Courier Mail. The 25-year-old victim was visiting the amateur tattoo artist at the man's home last week when he was talked into getting a tattoo, according to the paper. The man wanted a yin and yang symbol tattooed on his back, but allegedly got a 16-inch tattoo of a penis with an obscene gesture instead. Australian authorities said the incident followed an argument between the two. The victim also says he was punched and thrown out of the man's house. The 21-year-old tattoo artist has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear in court next month.
  24. Kelly Osbourne: Why I'm Removing Most of My 15 Tattoos Credit: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Wednesday – October 06, 2010 – 5:21pm Comments (11) » Kelly Osbourne isn't done reinventing herself! The slimmed down star -- who recently told Us Weekly about how she's managed to keep off almost 50 pounds after a year -- plans to get most of her 15 tattoos removed. Osbourne, 25, announced her decision to undergo laser tattoo removal in her weekly column for British magazine Closer (as reported in The Daily Mail.) PHOTOS: Celebs' weird body art She had her revelation recently while shooting the flick Should've Been Romeo, when makeup artists covered up the ink. "I can't say I missed them!" she wrote. "I met with my dermatologist and I'll start the laser treatment as soon as I have time," the Dancing with the Star alum said. The erasure process won't be short and painless, either. "It will take several months, and while I'm not looking forward to the pain, I've heard it hurts less than getting the tattoo," Osbourne wrote. "I hope so!" PHOTOS: Kelly's amazing body transformation She doesn't hate all of her tattoos, Osbourne explained. "Some still have a special meaning, like the matching ones my brother Jack and I have of each other's names, but now I feel like some were a mistake." Last year, Osbourne told British talk show This Morning that getting inked was "my way of self harming, because I really knew it would upset my mum and dad," she admitted of parents Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. PHOTOS: How other stars went from hot mess to hotness "I was miserable and I just went and got all these tattoos and I don't know why. One of them is a keyboard and I don't even know how to play a piano!" She added: "As you get older, you realize that you don't want to be defined by your tattoos, because that's not the type of person that I am."
