What are your favorite movies? Are you able to watch them over and over or just one time? How do you watch movies? HBO, Showtime, and/or another TV station? Netflix? Movie Theaters? Video Stores? Or ????? I'm a sucker for James Bond films and can watch them over and over and own every single one.

OK, so the article is about the tattoo biz being recession proof, but as a side note: It REALLY fucking bugs me when tattooers talk about how much money they make to the media. What a douche bag. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39641413/ns/business-us_business/

My name is Jon Clement. I make tattoos at Capital Tattoo in Richmond, VA. The shop puts on the Richmond show twice a year. I've been tattooing for six years. I feel honored to have the lifestyle I do. I do various guest spots and conventions yearly. I have had the privilege of working with many world class artists and learning (being a sponge) from all of them. I look forward to enjoying this site as it differs from the other mind numbing "forums" on the interwebs. Thank you for reading and look forward to conversing with you. Jon Clement c/s

Just got an email from a guy with no tattoos who does not tattoo, we'll call him Old Man River, saying "Hey, opening a tattoo shop/art gallery with some friends and business partners," asking me if I knew anyone who wanted to work there. Without typing a laundry list of everything wrong with this picture (which I just did and then deleted after I thought better of it), what's the general feeling here? My response to him was short but polite. I'm not a tattooer myself but I really wanted to fly off the handle a bit... and its not even my place to. I know there are a few non-tattooers who have done this very successfully but it's rare. I wouldn't decide to go open a shoe store or a tire factory -- how could I justify it when I know nothing about those industries -- so why do people think they can open a shop/GALLERY and somehow become respected and successful in the tattoo community?

I can't work without music playing. I'm sure the rest of you are the same. What are you currently listening to at your workplace? Also, what do you think is appropriate/tasteful? I like to listen to mellow stuff if I am working an early shift. Maybe cut loose a little later in the day. Lately a lot of 60's reggae, Blues, 70's and 80's punk. Not so into tattooing to crazy Grindcore , Death Metal, or Stoner Rock. I also think some of my customers would rather not be tattooed to real loud, brash music. What are YOU currently listening to? Also do you care about what your customers think of your musical tastes?

"I quit!" how to stay friends when you leave a shop...
Lizzie posted a topic in Crazy Tattoo Stories
I haven't met many people who have success stories leaving their shops for others or to open up. Even when things are done in the shop owners benefit, and with the utmost respect it goes pear shaped too often. Any tips on how people here did it? I'd love for anyone to not go through the ex communication I have in the past. And why do we think this happens? Are we really that scared that we're going to lose our clientele to the new guy? Or is this just part and parcel of a linear career where one shop trumps the next until you're happy and settled? I would ask that any responses here obviously don't make any negative mention of former employers. This isn't what this post is about: moreso to help people "quit better" and more respectfully...- 19 replies

Hello all. Im a tattooer in Chicago, have been since 04. Found the site via Nick C and Mario over at CTC's facebooks.. Site looks great. I hope to network with some new people and reconnect with some old... I am a partner at The Code of Conduct here in Chicago. We are off 11th and State Street not too far from where it all began in this City. Our shop is a combo tattoo shop and boutique, which has been looked down at by some more seasoned artist. But fuck it its one of the only way I could get the permits and the down town proper. Plus we are in the heart of 4 colleges so we are giving the kids what they want. And its not a shitty sctratcher shop like alot of the others in this City. All our artist know what they are doing... check out the site. www.thecodeofconduct.com also looking to check out machine builders.. I seem to only stick to the few I know. Time to branch out a bit. -jason hoodrich

Hello LST! I own a shop in Toronto that has hosted a bevy of amazing international artists in our first 18 months of operation and hope to host more. We have in-shop accommodations as half of our shop Is an old converted apartment. Speakeasy's approach to the guest spot is to offer our shop as an artists' sabbatical wherein you can paint and tattoo any hours you please, if our noon-7 doesn't fit your preferred schedule. Our manager, Hayden, is a force of nature booking people in and no one has left disappointed or under-paid for lack of jobs. We also host what will become an annual heavily advertised summer tour where www have 5 artists back to back who work for a small daily rent and can pocket as much cash as they can make, or as little if they just want to come up and be laid back! Last years roster was nikki balls, Josh Egnew, cla Dankmeyer, Adam sage, and Jason lambert, and we can't wait to see who will be part of this amazing project in 2011. All of our advertising for these projects are grassroots and safe for your travels: by postering and handing out handbills, you can be sure that a border guard cannot search your name and deny you entry upon Viewing easily googlable posts about your work trip. We can't wait to host all kind of new friends and share tips tricks and jokes. Lizzie
