  1. My first thigh tattoo, I had horrible whooshing for quite a while. With my second, none at all. The second time around, I iced it the evening of, the next day and periodically after that. I also used Tegaderm the second time. I for sure recommend the ice, and only recommend Tegaderm if you are sure sure sure you won't react badly to it. Ask me how I know.

I agree with all the other don't shave until fully healed comments. It's winter, who cares?

Hi, and welcome, from the west coast!

  2. Hey guys, long time no post. I just realized I never posted my two latest because I wanted to wait until they were both healed. Not the best pics, but you get the idea.

Cobra by Scott Sylvia done at Pagoda City Convention. Drawn on in 15 minutes, outlined in about an hour. Scott is the absolute best. We had originally talked about him doing all of the black in Reading then the color in the fall, but he had the time so we just powered through. It was another great experience being tattooed by him, and I can't say enough great things.

Death's head moth by Oliver Peck while guesting in Philadelphia at Kadillac Mt. Airy. Another pleasure. Oliver was so down to earth and easy to talk to, just like you'd expect. He only did three or four tattoos that day, and I was lucky it happened to be the last week before school started and I could squeeze in after cross country practice (the only heavily tattooed coach in the world, I think). He checked out a ton of my tattoos and even took his shirt off to show me his stomach from Scott, his side from Rassier, and his back from Trevino. So awesome.

Not the best photos, but it's what I have.

Also, I was not expecting to have nearly this much pink on my legs, particularly from Scott and Oliver, but here we are.

I love these! The colours are fantastic, if a little unexpected

  3. When my dad and I got tattooed together last year, we each chose different tattoos that appealed to us. The process of getting tattooed together was significant and memorable for us, even though we didn't choose the same aesthetic.

TLDR: get what you love, and enjoy the experience with your pops!

    And welcome @swask!

  4. I had abdominal surgery today. It was more of a shitty thing when it was on the horizon, but it definitely wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. I was the final surgery of the day, so I had to fast for what felt like forever, and the hunger and associated nausea was probably the worst part. Although it was a shitty thing to be anticipating, it actually went well, and I'm feeling really quite good post surgery. It's really late here, and I can't sleep, so I'm enjoying the LST "back catalogue", bonus!

  5. You got a nice one. Mine was very negative about a few things. For instance, she asked me about my pets and I said I had a ball python and a rainbow boa. She made a face and said " pythons are the ones that kill people, right?"

    I was not impressed.

Wow, that sucks. Can you switch to someone else?

  6. I used to have the worst time sleeping in a tent, I think I understand your pain. I do better when I can keep my spine kind of aligned, so a little padding under the ribs and between the knees can be helpful. Tattoo time is really hard when your body hurts :(

You are certainly not a wus! I would bring 2 bags of things when I was getting my back done. I felt a little funny, but after I'd gotten a rhythm, I could really sit good. But I know what you mean - I am nervous my back and hip with bother me during my tattoo tomorrow and I am bringing a number of cushy things just in case.

Hey @SeeSea, I remember you asked on another thread about flying post thigh tattoo... I did this 2 weeks ago, and I totally recommend bringing a giant ziplock and asking kind baristas to fill it with ice for you post security. Also, I sprung for an economy plus seat, with my fresh thigh getting the window seat. Money well spent.

  7. I have used Tegaderm in the past post surgery, with no issues as I recall. That was on my ankle. After 3 days with derm on my thigh, I have a nasty looking rash. Heat rash I guess?

Just wanted to chime in to say maybe testing on different areas of the body may give different results.

    Bummer for me though :(

  8. Don't tell me that people walked into a shop or picked up a phone, talked to a human being, looked through a portfolio and then made up his or her mind and booked something (or not), because that's obviously crazy.

I actually tried that recently, asked if I could come take a look at a portfolio, and was informed to just look at the artist's website. (Which I had already done, of course). There's something different and special about looking at a real portfolio and seeing someone in person. It's not just clients that have changed.

I know everyone is different, and each to their own.

  9. Today I capped my other knee with a demon head by Franz Stefanik at The Okey Doke in Toronto. Its always a great experience with Franz. Interesting conversations with a great guy who also does amazing work. I'll have to update my legs in the Squidpants thread soon. I'm really looking to forward to getting some filler work around some of the larger pieces on my right leg now.

That looks amazing @Mark Bee, I love the kneecap

  10. I thought I'd come back to my intro thread to post a picture, since I started reading these forums while I was contemplating this tattoo. Just wanted to reiterate what a wonderful site you guys have here, it has been really great to not only see lots of cool work, but also hear about other people's experiences and thoughts.
