  1. Hi Folks,

I'm curious about the elements of the traditional Japanese tattoos. I've found a few pieces of information but not very much. Was there a discussion on this form about that topic I might have missed (and someone could point me to?) Or is there a website or book that someone could suggest? I've been looking at some google images of woodblock prints but for this kind of thing (visual images) I usually need written/verbal direction to help me identify elements and patterns.

    Thanks,

    Dude

  2. Yikes!

Now I'm not a big city lawyer but it seems to me that if my shoes were that valuable I wouldn't be putting my sweaty feet in them. Probably wouldn't be letting them come in contact with who knows what on the dirty dirty ground either. Honestly, who knows where other people have been with their shoes. What with all the non-human animals living out there and what not. Seems to me the best place to keep something like that is in a display case somewhere or maybe in a special box just for a matching pair. It would be some kind of storage place with other pairs of shoes. You could even keep some material inside each shoe to make sure they don't loose their shape. It could be call a shoe storage place or maybe "shoe store" for short. ;)

    Take it easy,

  3. This shop is in PEI- Infinite Expressions Tattoos and Piercing Jeff & John would do a good job covering that.

Thanks BigJoe! Its comforting to hear comments from others about that kind of thing.

I just a got a piece on my back done at TroubleBound (Alicia E) back in February. Right now my wife and I are buying a house so my tattoo savings is slow going but I'm going to check out infinite Ink as well.

    Take 'er easy.

  4. Hi Folks,

I got this tattoo (first of 3) when I was 19. It looked different when I got it as I had a lot more muscle mass which was replaced by fat :) at another point; notice the loose skin and stretch marks to the right. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for a cover up. I recognize it will only look so good given the condition of my arm in general (but what do you do? Exercise? pft :)

Anywho, if anyone one has any suggestions I would appreciate it!

  5. My first one was done on my 19th birthday, February 13th, 1985.

Because my Dad has a tattoo, I always wanted one and knew I'd get one as soon I got legal age to do it.

Since I grew up in bum-fucked western North Carolina there was only one shop within a 100 mile radius then. It was named "J.B. Davis Tattoo & Tavern". The tattoo shop was in the back of a biker bar in Waynesville N.C.

I was way more scared of going in the biker bar as a skinny, long haired punk kid than I was of getting the tattoo, but I went through with it.

Wasn't as bad as I though it'd be, so I kept getting more as the years went by. Now I've turned 46, my arms are covered to the wrist, and I'm fixing to start a backpiece.

I never had it covered up, cause I love it to this day, but I did have it touched up in 2010. It's the spiderweb with the creepy skull/spiderlegs thingy.

P.S. I was able to keep it hidden from my Mom for 2 weeks...

She saw it and slapped the shit out of it!

That's very funny about your mom. I hit my first one for a couple of years. After a while I just kept trying to see how long I could go.

    :)

  6. This is a quote from Shogun Assassin. I know they are not real last words but I when I hear speak of last words I usually think of this scene in the movie.

Master of Death: When cut across the neck, a sound like wailing winter winds is heard, they say. I'd always hoped to cut someone like that someday, to hear that sound. But to have it happen to my own neck is ridiculous.

  7. Cool, there are a few LSTers on here in the process of doing/getting various cover-ups plus some threads on them so hope you find them useful.... if not, ask away and you should get some useful feedback

    Far-out. thanks man.

  8. Hey guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm located in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

The piece I'm thinking of getting covered up is a wolf and moon tattoo I got when I was 19. I'm not sure what I will/can do with it yet but at a bare minimum I think I would like to cover up the moon portion.

  9. I HATE when people tell me "do what you want!". I prefer people to come in, show me something I've done and say, "I really like the way you did that. I want to get a blah blab blah on my [whatever area]. I was thinking of maybe adding some [whatever]. What are your thoughts?" More often than not, if someone tells me to do what I want, and I draw something big, they get really upset because they didn't want that much coverage, or they didn't want that type of flower or whatever.

I'll show someone a drawing. If they want some minor changes, ok, but I won't do several drawings. If they are coming to me, and they like my work, and they've shown me something they like, then they should be happy with the drawing (especially if they tell me I have artistic freedom).

I once had a client who had a badly done lower back tattoo by someone else. She told me how unhappy she was with it. She also told me that when she went to the original artist, she told him, "do what you want!". He did what he wanted. It wasn't what she wanted. She came to me to get it covered. I asked what she wanted, and she said, "I don't know, do what you want! Make it look nice!" I told her to go home and think about what she wanted, because I didn't want to do something on her that she wouldn't be happy with because it wasn't what SHE wanted, and then she'd be seeing some other artist saying that I did a bad job and her tattoo wasn't what she wanted.

Different situations may be different, but I feel that a client needs to have a pretty good idea first.

Seems to me that your doing the right thing by asking them to come back. Some times the medicine is a bitter pill... and what not.

  10. Hi guys,

I stumbled onto this forum a few weeks ago as I was looking at pictures of tattoos. I have three tattoos and I was thinking about getting one covered up or at least modified. I'm not sure what else to say but if anyone is interested in asking me a question that would help he focus :)
