  1. Lets go with a few more what the heck: Becca Gene Bacon at The End is Near in Brooklyn with the fish rose morph. Becca is really nice and hit homeruns daily. Rob Ryan with the Hand of Glory and Mandala Big Cat at Electric in Asbury NJ. Rob is a super fast and as nice as they come. Steve Boltz with a flying fish at Smith St. in Brooklyn. What a great shop and Steve was filled with great conversation. I thought it was the coolest thing sitting down and having lunch with Steve after the tattoo. Gotta get back to Smith. Sheila Marcello with this flying lady head on my collarbone. Sheila rocks. Electric in Asbury. Rob Ryan again at Electric with some fish mandala knee magic. Lastly I traveled to Maryland to the Wheaton Tattoo Paradise shop to get this fiery eyed lady from Chad Koeplinger on his 50 state tour. Got to meet a lovely LST member as well. A blast of a day (though way too much of it was spent in a car lol). Anyway - love these picture heavy threads with cool tattoos so...lets keep going.
  2. @otisc you are throwing down heavy duty threads tonight i tell ya - i just hesitate to nominate someone i almost feel i'm too new to being tattooed to put down an opinion i'm curious to see what names come up in this thread though i feel i have been tattooed by some really amazing tattooers too but i feel like to nominate someone for a hall of fame 'status' its a bit tough i feel to pick one over another so many good tattooers
  3. neither is the type / style of tattooer I seek out but I was finding tattoos that I liked from both of them i'd lean more towards anthony if i had to pick one from the other enjoy
  4. so how about these four to start us off the first two classics were done by Shannon Pagliarini at Crown and Anchor in Pt. Pleasant NJ. Great tattooer and super cool person. Pharoah's Horses was done by Sheila Marcello at Electric Tattoo in Asbury Park NJ. Sheila is an amazing tattooer and also a real nice person too. Rock of Ages is my most recent tattoo (until Friday hahaha). Anyway this was done by Robert Ryan at Electric as well. Rob is the man - it's not lost on me how awesome it is that Electric is so close to me. I'm lucky. Anyway - lets see what y'all got.
  5. i like the goofy tattoo i have my share of questionable content :) in my tattoos but i also feel like ...do you really wanna build a whole sleeve around a tattoo thats....well...goofy -- no offense why the need to add to it like... why not get another tattoo somewhere elsewhere on your body and go from there
  6. @agadan93 not gonna judge the content here of what you are looking to do but my main thought is that this discussion is really for you and a tattoo artist to have - contuning to debate along this thread serves no point really imo
  7. you live in jersey chris adamek kills black and grey realism http://instagram.com/chrisadamek agree with whats been said - just take your references and your idea to your artist and then show some trust and let them do their thing i dont have tattoos from chris but I have been tattooed at the clinton immortal shop - nice shop - and I have seen some color lived in chris adamek tattoos in person and they look dope - dont think he does color anymore though - anyway - good luck
  8. kinda got this idea recently that I want to get tattooed in as many states as possible - I guess meeting Chad during his 50 state tour sparked something in me - anyway - I'll be hitting state #4 next week when I go to philly and as far as I can tell - I could hit 11 (counting DC) pretty easily just by car - getting tattooed by tattooers that I like in shops that I want to visit - will I carry through on this? i dont know maybe - I mean part of me says I could just get covered in Rob Ryan tattoos and be completely happy - but I also like a little bit the adventure of traveling and meeting new tattooers and seeing new shops - to be continued i guess
  9. plus shitty tattoos are awesome
  10. yeah i think its a risky proposition for a tattooer to go on the show i think most of the time the tattooers are portrayed unfavorably at some point in the season i cant imagine a successful tattooer taking the risk of going on a show like this
  11. this season actually had alot of good tattooers imo but i think they should just let these guys tattoo instead of coming up with weird ass challenges "this week you'll be tattooing black and grey portraits...on eyelids"
  12. just watched the final - so gimmicky the show could so much better if they didnt try so many gimmicks i liked the american traditional chest piece that Christian did - sadly - he wasnt even able to be judged for the final
  13. who the hell cares - why do people make threads like this
  14. first - dont cream up and take pics - clean it up let it dry and then have someone else take some proper photos - i like the wolf i see bruising and iritation as for the red flames? i think we need a better pic perhaps once the tattoo is healed a bit if you are concerned about there being some kind of infection or reaction then by all means see your local doc but i think it looks alot like bruising i myself though would be disappointed by the gratuitous use of unnecessary use of background color but whatever right you might want to take careful consideration of your next move with this tattoo and if you want this particular artist to be a part of it
  15. i'm sensing a thread derailment - which in this case sounds perfect
  16. @oboogie nice! inside bicep no joke tho i agree
  17. i think the topic itself is awkward - of course #1 discussing money can be awkward in general but i think there is an etiquette that should be there through different parts of the process of getting tattooed i kinda find the whole thing pretty sacred in a way and to focus your energy on prices and price differences (remember that was the intent of the OP's thread) to me - its poor form i do talk money with my tattooer i simply state what i want and what my budget is i.e. - "do you think my budget of 'x' dollars would work for what i'm looking to get?" by now i have a feel for it so i usually know how much a piece will cost i try to do 100% cash - also good form imo to each their own on this issue but this pretty much sums up my feelings on the topic oh - forum members... dont forget to throwdown in the lowdown - a much more entertaining thread i assure you
  18. i guess i dont get walking into a shop and wanting a price breakdown of how much each artist would charge for a piece - pretty silly if you ask me is money an important topic yes - but i would say first that you pick the artist you would like to work with then discuss your budget - maybe it works out maybe it doesnt but price shopping is poor form imo
  19. @GlaryMilberg i get the concerns - i have had some tattoos that have healed so well and so quickly that 11 days later i would have no concerns - then again - i have tattoos that have scabbed up pretty well and then i might be concerned about the effects of getting it soaked so early on - lower leg tattoos have typically been slow healers for me too - i'm curious what some others might advise - and of course you could always 'suit up' as @Graeme advises :)
  20. @Graeme i just realized Ron is not that far from jersey :)
  21. I'm assuming this is your first tattoo - maybe not though in any regard this would be why I don't think its a good idea for folks to get their first tattoo on their wrist because your expectations that this tattoo is going to stay 'sharp' and perfect are not realistic I dont see blowouts and I think you should enjoy the tattoo but yeah - as time goes on - the tattoo will take on a 'lived in' look - some people - including myself - love how tattoos look as they age - but they age alright - thats why big and bold designs are the way to go - but anyway - try not to obsess about this tattoo as it heals - and enjoy it
  22. @suburbanxcore thanks for the scoop i agree on the knee - once you get one done you gotta get the other mine was the most difficult heal of all the tattoos i have gotten
  23. @suburbanxcore i'm in with Gus 6/3 at noon whats the parking like around the shop any food recs?
