I do think they look like fireworks, but it is a pretty bland tattoo. Can totally be fixed by adding black drop lines to the colored lines similar to the picture that @misterJ posted. I don't think it needs to be covered. If you ask to have the black stop at the heart, I'm sure it will stand out a lot more as a heart. Overall, not a bad tattoo, just needs black to make it pop.

My daughter is five so I have some time before this becomes an issue but considering how much time she has already spent inside our local tattoo shop I will clearly need a strategy when the time comes. I'm thinking that if she wants a tattoo as soon as she turns 18 I will pay her to wait. But I will pay her in money towards whatever tattoo she ultimately decides on. The longer she waits the more money she will have to spend on getting an awesome tattoo. Of course this could backfire and she could end up with a full back piece of an infinity sign exploding into a flock of birds. Life is full of risks I suppose.

I kike Oliver Peck's solution: take "Kat Von D" and add "is a bitch" after the breakup. Simple and effective

I realized it was fireworks, but I didn't see immediately that they were originating with hearts. I like it fine. If it was me, I'd probably ask a good artist if it could be enhanced with some black or something and make it pop a little more. Nothing extreme. Just my opinion. But like others have suggested, wait until it's fully healed before you make any decisions.

The lines should have started at or ended at the heart bursts, I think. And, for a real explosion they would all have emanated from a single point at different velocities to form the initial heart. It isn't all that big or bright, and from a distance (unless your legs are regularly up high in the air or people are regularly on the floor looking at your ankles) looks Ok.

I suppose I could get a little more in depth.
My first tattoo was in 2005 when I was 18. It's on my right shoulder. It's a tigers eye, underneath "She's a Tiger." Reminds me not to take any shit basically, to always do my own thing. I had a controlling boyfriend since about 14, so it was my first step for me breaking out of out of his mindset. At this point, I'm planning on getting it freshened up.
My second tattoo was in 2009/2010. It is a simple black X on my left outer wrist. It's a little messed up in that the lines aren't the same length, but I'll deal with that when it needs to be touched up. The X is from an anime called One Piece where it was a mark of friendship. My brother and I bonded over that anime, so it seemed appropriate after he passed away.
My third tattoo was on Saturday. It was meant to be two fireworks as a memory of me and my husband getting married on 4th of July. It didn't turn out how I wanted, or how the stencil looked, but hopefully it can be saved. They just look like big ugly blotches kind of. Ah well... time will tell.
Eventually I want a simple spiral behind my right ear.
