In your respective experiences, did the artists sketch a design beforehand to show their perception of what you were looking for/artistic interpretation to you? Did the markers and freehand happen with artists you had been to before or were otherwise familiar with?
I've been doing as much loving/obsessive research of tattoos over the past few years because, while I've always loved them, I currently only own one poorly executed piece. And nearly everything I've seen thus far, though I know it's nothing compared to first hand experience, has had a stencil and/or initial design/concept.

C'mon - they don't think mentoring and advice makes "good television". Expect scheming and screaming.
Masters and their apprentices could form alliances to scheme against others. When two people are arguing, their respective mentor/apprentice would be more likely to also get involved, making it a bigger shit show. It would make "good television " and along the way have better art and/or more painful mistakes.

Stencils? We don't need no stinking stencils.Stencils are for wusses.
Holy cannoli, your artists do everything freehand?

When my boyfriend and I first started dating a couple of years ago, he already had four good sized tattoos (calf, chest, and two the same upper arm) and I only had one relatively small one. We went to a convention with a friend that is pretty covered and my bf got a small one somewhat spur of the moment.
I've always loved tattoos and loved that he had some, but it was crazy to me that he would add another without thinking/planning for a while. But now, as I plan future pieces, I totally understand the itch. He's super supportive of me getting more, and even a little bit jealous that I'm next :)

Anyone else planning to use this thread for one of their first 10 useless posts?
I am, but I'm also honestly curious-
What is that bicep tattoo supposed to say?

I don't understand how these people allowed half of these tattoos to happen. They couldn't tell they were doomed from the stencils?

I wonder if the masters vs apprentices will have more mentoring and advice in it or if it'll take the form of the rivals season.

I have an appointment with Erick Holguin of Ink and Dagger on February 6th. I'm getting a photo realistic cardinal on the front of my right thigh. We discussed perched on a branch, but it may be flying (I'm giving as much artistic freedom as possible.)

I don't focus on symmetry. As I plan pieces, certain designs and ideas just seem "right" in specific spots.

Hello! I'm Kimmie. I have always loved tattoos and got my first one a few years ago. Though it is incredibly meaningful, I wasn't very knowledgeable about what makes a good tattoo and picked an artist that didn't execute it particularly well.
In the last couple of years, I have fallen even more in love with tattoos and soaked up every bit of information possible (following artists, reading articles, watching shows, etc.) On February 6th, I am getting my next piece from the incredible Erick Holguin of Ink and Dagger. It is in memory of my Mom and I could not be more excited.
So hello!
Some of the worst ever.

Fair enough, that's more or less what I thought originally.
