  1. Chris Smith? Zach Dole? Matt Headley? Katie Sellegren (I know she is moving)? Andrew Stickler, Adam Shrewsbury, Jeff Whitehead?

Word, for some reason don't think of Whitehead as being around here because I always associate him with Cali, ha. I know he's trying to get back there soon. I should hit him up in Chicago because its much closer to here than Cali is!

No SD/ND/NE/IA/WY/MT love? I totally understand why.

  2. The midwest definitely does not get enough love on this board, most really stunning tattooers set up shop on the coasts and for obvious reasons. So, this is the thread to talk about the men and women who don't get enough praise and/or recognition!

Who do you like in the Midwest? I know there are good tattooers everywhere but they're a little harder to find around here it seems...

  3. I'm having my right forearm tattooed in Oct. I dont give a fuck what anyone thinks anymore...if shit changes I will just have to roll with it. I won't do my hands, but I'm ok with doing my forearms now.

Edited for emphasis, but, this. I'm not trying to be a prick about it but if you have to ask the advice of relative strangers on what to do, well, you probably aren't ready to have your forearms tattooed.

  4. Just go with some Sailor Jerry flash if you're looking for the classic "love" tattoo, I have one myself!

I would recommend against the snake though, maybe a dagger through a heart with yr grammy's name or something? I dunno, my Grandma died a few years ago and I want a memorial tattoo but don't really want to think of her when I look at a snake, not exactly a positive association IMO.

  5. I wear lightweight western shirts in the summer. They are keep me cool and keep the sun of off my tattoos. Since the shirts are so lightweight some sun still comes through them, but a little sunscreen underneath and you are good to go.

Same here. I also live in Minnesota though, so I'm in long sleeves about 8 months out of the year.

  6. Here's a related topic, but before the discussion gets out of hand, I'm going to let everyone know:

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT JEF WHITEHEAD

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT JEF WHITEHEAD

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT JEF WHITEHEAD

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT JEF WHITEHEAD

THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT JEF WHITEHEAD

THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR MAKING ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT HIS INNOCENCE OR GUILT, OR HOW HE'S A GOOD OR BAD DUDE, AND HERETOFORE I HAVE NOT MEANT TO SUBTLY GIVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS THREAD HAS HIM IN MIND. FOR BEST RESULTS, NO FUTURE REFERENCES TO HIM SHALL BE MADE HEREIN.

Now that that's out of the way:

If a tattooer has had some run-ins with the law (regardless of which side they came out on), or has a "reputation", does that influence your likelihood of being tattooed by that person?

  7. The tattoo-related news is that my right knee is all done by Chris Smith at Deluxe Tattoo. It's trad style, it looks to be healing well and I'll get the obligatory pic up in a couple of days when it's settled down (it was done on Friday).

I also got tattooed by Chris recently, good dude, good tattooer.

  8. this thread will only work if people start naming names. I would only get tattooed by people I like personally. Im almost full up so those remaining patches of skin are very important to me.

Eh, the reason I didn't name any names is because inevitably, someone who knows said assholes reads this board (if not said assholes or their co-workers) and I don't want this coming back to me somehow...let's just say one or both of said assholes may have worked at an "LST approved" shop...does that narrow it enough? I don't want this to turn into a shitfest anyway, just wanted to discuss a question. But, if you think someone is, conversely, a really nice person, leave their name! I just won't because the dudes I was tattooed by (who were very nice) work at a shop with said assholes and...I think everyone at the shop would know who the shop asshole is I'm talking about!

  9. One of the things that you can't always know at street shops is what the dude is going to be like...if ya make an appointment with 'em you can get a feel for their personality, but portfolios online hardly give you any real idea of what the artist is going to be like personality-wise. That said, the artist I went to for one of my tattoos focused on me and giving me a nice experience while the co-worker just made a string of racist/sexist/homophobic jokes and largely ignored the dude in his chair.
