  1. Josh Brown is super fun to get tattooed by. He did a portrait of Jeb Stuart on my calf in 45 minutes. It's like holding on for dear life, but when it's over, then you're left with something bulletproof.
  2. I don't know how many times I've gone somewhere, and someone I don't know came up to me, grabs my arm, and says "I really like your sleeve." I think the criticisms are right, because it makes people think it is ok to just talk about it to people you don't even know. I almost got into a fist fight over it once because some dude came up, grabbed my arm, and was like "Sick tats bro." FUCK. What is the greater good? Ok, a more educated public can be a good thing. But this is the same educated public who votes for people like Rick Santorum in primary elections. I know tattooing isn't "mine," but I still like to believe it is a little sacred. I like the idea that I know a little about something that other people do not. But, these shows are like when The Clash signed to a major label. But, I digress...HATERS GONNA HATE.
  3. Also, I was just down in Staunton, VA for Tim Forbus's Acme Tattoo re-opening. Great turn out. Josh Brown and Tomas Garcia were present. A little overwhelming to have so many talented folks in one place.
  4. Nice, did you get anything by Zack Stuka when he was in town? My pal Mercer got a sweet panther.
  5. I was 19, and I got the Rocket From The Crypt logo on the inside of my arm. I thought I was so punk. Luckily, it was done really well and has since been filled in with color. Now it's my little red rocket. Crudeness intended. 11 years later I still dig it.
  6. It wasn't too bad at all. For me, it'll probably be 6 months b/c I'd have to plan it on the weekend.

  8. for the record, this needs to be bumped. http://youtu.be/dcYj6bHrwsM also, remind me never to get "inked up" there: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Romantic-Torture-Tattoo/135734336464230 yeesh.
  9. Today I was in DC. I put my name on Koeplingers list (dat shit is rightfully long). Can't wait.
  10. A few friends of mine are starting to do this to themselves and friends. I always shake my head and tell them it's a bad idea. I usually also let them know their tattoos look like shit. Oh well, what can you do?
  11. Agreed. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing someone with their throat and hands done, but with nothing else. Not saying you are that type of fella. I won't get my hands and throat done until everything else is almost done, but it will happen eventually. I can't wait to be the Dad who shows up to PTA meetings wearing Dad clothes but covered in rad tattoos.
  12. InDesign a day keeps the doctor away. I NEED TO FIND A STUPID TATTOO TO POST.
  13. Oh, Perfection. That is where Trevino works, correct?
  14. Just heard from O'Donnell's assistant. She was asking the what and where. Hopefully he is into my idea and would want to do it.
  15. who did this? i think i missed it somewhere in the thread. this thing is perfect!
  16. Definitely stoked to have you here. Your work has always impressed me. And you're right, sometimes people let dollar signs guide their path.
  17. Y'all had Burton Baton form Dogfish? It's probably the best beer I have ever had.
  18. Yeah, from what I understand, it is technically more trying than the already difficult aspect of tattooing. It also hurts like hell. Good luck dude.
  19. I too am a designer, and I use Helvetica and Univers when I want to create a Swiss style poster or minimalist layout. It's a beautiful typeface. But the same can be said nowadays for how many companies are using the Gotham typeface. It's gorgeous, but the market is over-saturated with it. It's a fine line, I like to pull in Brockmann, Carson, Timothy Samara, and Bierut as my daily influences. As for a Helvetica tattoo, it's hipster pastiche, whatever, they don't know shit about Thom DeVita.
