  3. I'm aware of the risks of swimming before your new tattoo is healed, but how bad really is the ocean for a tattoo that's a little over a week old?

Just got it Friday, but my friends moving to Hawaii next Tuesday so they want to do a boat trip on Sunday. Normally I'd sit it out, but she's leaving for good and can't just sit at home. It's on the back of my thigh so the sun won't be an issue, but ill definitely be swimming.

Will it really be that terrible if its during the Peeling stage and covered?

why can't you just spend the time with her & have fun without swimming ?

I wouldn't risk a lifetime long tattoo for one a dip in the water.

  4. tattoo aftercare advice varies as much as opinions on tattoos do,everyone I talk to has a different opinion,IMO bottom line is find what works for you and do that, all our bodies are different and react & heal differently,

it also seems that I can ask the same people again and the advice constantly changes.

it's really easy IMO,keep it clean, don't submerge it in water, keep it out of the sun,and lightly moisturize it,treat it like most other injuries to the skin.

  5. Bored and unmotivated at work this morning so why not day dream about something cool...

    Convention Website

    Convention Facebook

    Instagram: "@bayareatattooconvention"

From everything I've seen this is one of the top North American conventions. Anyone else plan on going this year? I think I can convince my girlfriend that a weekend trip to SF would be romantic. And nothing adds to the romance like a fresh tattoo from an elite artist.

thanks for the heads up,I live 90min from there.

to meet some of you would be cool for sure.

  6. I have been wondering/worried about this myself.

I am starting a half sleeve that is going onto my chest on Thursday...

Do you guys shave the area before you go in? Or do you let the artist decide what needs to be removed?

I was concerned about them using a cheap razor and then ending up with a bunch of ingrowns pushing out the ink a few days later.

I might have to pick up some coochy... lol

I shave the area to be tattooed myself before I go in,it saves time at the shop too.

  7. I usually keep the wrap on until I get home/two hours after the tattoo is finished. Then frequent showers with dial and light A&D ointment. Whoever said "bacteria death trap" hit the nail on the head. Let your tattoo breath.

that's what I do & it seems to work pretty good.except I take off the wrap in about an hour.

  8. I searched several forums and think this may be "the one". Members appear to be respectful and the mods take no B.S. Good stuff...

Anyway, I am older and thought that my days of getting tattooed were over. I collected a decent half-dozen pieces in the 90's, both locally and at shows. Then Life Got In The Way. Fast forward to last year and my daughter (26) announced that she was getting her first ink and had put down a deposit. She and her girlfriends were all going together after the Christmas bills settled down...then it became after they got their tax returns...then they all chickened out. She was disappointed that she would have to go it alone. Before I could stop myself I blurted out: "What the Hell, I'll go with you." My daughter is very excited that we're having a Father/Daughter tattoo day (alas, I searched in vain all day and no, Hallmark doesn't have a card for that) and she said she'll take care of the arrangements.

A week later, I get an email with the date and time of our appointments. Now I had to decide what exactly I wanted. I'm a true believer in the 2nd amendment so I had the idea to have the ancient Greek symbols for "Molon Labe" (Come and Take It) tattooed on my forearm. One thing led to another and, well - HERE I GO AGAIN!!!

Dustin at Fate Tattoo on High Street (OSU campus) did the work on April 14 in about 2 1/2 hours. A couple of places scabbed pretty good - His technique? My old skin? Who knows? and I go in for a cleanup next week. All-in-all, decent work for $300, eh?

right on ! I'm an old guy too ! I'm still getting tattoos, and don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

    remember one thing ! ogr-logo.jpg

  9. What do you think the modern day stigma for these on the elbows are these days?

    Jailhouse/racist or classic tattoo design?

I have never heard of a spider web elbow piece having a meaning of Jailhouse/racist ,not many artists like doing knees or elbows,so I always just figured it was a common tattoo for the elbow, but never Jailhouse/racist.

jailhouse work is unmistakable ,it's easy to spot that IMO.

real mainline tattoos have their own signature.

  10. Official Description: For years people saw tattoos as a sign of rebellion. A middle finger salute to the rest of the world. Outlaw bikers got tattoos. Sailors on leave in Singapore got tattoos. Lifers in the joint got tattoos. But now in the United States one out of every three adults under forty has a tattoo! So what happened? How did tattoo go from something…

  12. Sometimes you see that shops will have these special days like Friday the 13th or maybe fund raisers or Halloween or other holidays. They'll have a bunch of tattoos they'll do for a certain flat price on such a day. I was thinking I might do that some day just for the fun of it, not because I'm cheap or anything.

So I'm curious about it. Are these days usually really busy and hard to get a tattoo if you only have time to drop in after work? If you go to a shop that has a couple of really great artists and maybe one or two who aren't so great, do you just get pot luck who will do the tattoo or can you choose the artist? Do you get any kind of choice in certain aspects of the tattoo or is it basically exactly what is shown? For example, if the tattoo is red can you ask for orange instead?

a shop here locally had a similar day like that, during the NFL playoffs in 2012,the weekend the SF niners were in the playoffs this shop ran a "niner" special, they did niner tattoos for $49 dollars.the ones in the deal were a bit small for what I wanted so I paid a little extra and got what I wanted, still a great deal and fun with the "niner fever" and all,it was a fun atmosphere that day at the shop.I got there early and was 2nd.

    here is the piece.
