  1. It's a perfectly reasonable thing to say. Tattooing isn't the vehicle/computer industry. It has until recent years largely been ran by by a small microcosm of craftsmen/artists, rather than a committee running focus groups and assembly lines. The lamentable thing from my perhaps limited perspective is the advent of people who don't truly understand how it works influencing it.

If it were the vehicle industry though, I much prefer the old days where the cars were crafted with care, by hand, and had much more flare/personality. The mass produced cars of today might be safe and comfortable, but they don't make you smile the same way that 66' corvette cruising down the road does.

like I said, they were just examples, maybe a better one is the true story of a friend of mine that owns & runs a successful tattoo shop, but he does not do tattoos himself.

:) and I agree cars today don't have the same character they used to have.

  2. -insert rant on people who don't tattoo making money off tattooing-

LOL that's kind of a silly thing to say IMO,that's like saying the CEO of GM does'nt drive but he's wrong for making money off of people who do,or Bill gates uses a MAC but he makes money off of people who use Windows and he's an asshole for that ? (insert/just examples)

  3. Were you told to remove your bandage after 3 days? When I removed mine you see the boarders of the bandage. Almost looks like a tan line. It's been three weeks and it's a lot lighter but still you can see it. I was just curious if this is just my experience with this style of bandage..

ya,it looked like a sunburn where the saniderm was, hurt like hell taking it off too ! and yes,I kept it on for 3 days,it's been 2 weeks now and the red from the saniderm is finally gone,it did last a while though, but it sure was easier than any other aftercare I have used,I like it,no sticky aquafor, etc, etc especially on my side.

  4. so I ended up going to the show(I really had planned on going already :D ) ,I did'nt see any brawls ! LOL  actually it was a pretty cool friendly event,I met up with a friend that was getting work from Jess on Saturday too.

the best thing was a friend notified me two weeks before and told me that Jess Yen had a last minute opening,so I ended up getting an 8 hour one shot piece from Jess on Friday !

it's still healing so I will post pics when it's done . it's a B&G tiger standing on a skull from my armpit to my ass.

here is the original art he drew for me & my body size & weight ,he signed it and dated it for me.

here it is the day after,he used saniderm on it,I will post better pics in the correct forum when it's healed,I'm pretty happy with it.

  5. I also found using this product. Healing is a lot slower. You will not start peeling for a week or so. My other tattoos peeled after 2 to 3 days. The good thing like i said no scabs!

If you are allergic to latex I wouldn't use it!

I thought the same when I took it off but it will start peeling in like 4 days or so. Good thing is I didn't get any scabs. It's been like 13 days so far and I think about another week or so it's should be completely healed. I also developed a slight irritation to it. I'm glad my artist used it though. Don't get me wrong!

    .

    .

so,I got it friday and I noticed today I am starting to peel.no itching either.

  6. my "long" session kit is I bring skittles ,M&M's,a fresh banana, beef jerky,& several bottles of water.I like to keep my sugars & electrolytes way up during the work.

I eat a good meal before and take a 800mg ibuprofen or two.

I don't drink alcohol for a couple days prior to the work, lots of water, and I never drink alcohol right before or during.

  7. A friend of mine found this and scanned it for me.

Since it's in Life magazine--in 1961--I expected it to be on some, "Well, thank American Jesus that's illegal now!" Instead, they seem to complain about the ban. "Effete civilization is smothering the 4,000-year-old art." I'm also intrigued that a Coney Island carney still counted his 59 tattoos, all of which had devolved into "purple pictures." About this "needles and matches" method: I assume the matches are to burn paper to create soot which gets mixed with water (or, you know, piss)?

    cool article,

when I saw the "matches" thing,I thought of it's use as in sterilizing the needles ? in those days.

  8. It's always weird cause everytime you get tattooed it feels different so it's hard to say what hurts less. I really don't have a clue. Coil does sound more aggressive for sure.

In regards to the getting through the pain.I have much respect for people who sit through long tattoo sittings, I wouldn't say I have a high threshold for pain, but I guess if I want to get a tattoo I have to find a way to get through it. The best advice I have ever been given is to sit there and take it. You can take pain killers, rub cream on there, or whatever ritual you have, but the only answer is to accept the pain and try to relax, at times it sure sucks, but to me that's part of the accomplishment.

the artists I have talked to about the difference between rotary & coil,is that most say they can tell how the ink is going in better with the noise of a coil, :) that makes sense to me.

I've been tattooed by both, and I don't feel any difference,if anything like was said, the coils sound more aggressive,so it's probably a mental thing.

also, when I walk into a shop and they are using rotary machines,it just seems like something is wrong,or missing LOL , I know it's the way things are going,I'm just sayin.

and as far as the pain ? yes,it's a mind thing for me,I sat for an 8 hour "one shot" yesterday, and I can close my eyes and put myself somewhere pleasant,it's about extreme concentration on something else that helps me.but I agree,it still hurts either way,no matter where you get it,just different degrees of pain,it's up to us how we deal with it,I believe in the mind over matter thing,it can work.It got me through last night anyway.

IMO the worst pain is the shading & highlights that hurt the most, the going over already tattooed areas that hurts the most.

  9. After going to the beach earlier this summer and getting a light sunburn on my shoulders even though I used sunblock, I bought a UPF 50 hooded button down long-sleeved beach cover-up. It's good to have the extra protection in addition to sunblock on already healed tattoos. I've tried it out and it worked great. Mine was kind of pricey, but seems to be worth it (good quality). From Coolibar, $75.

Sun Cover Up: Sun Protective Clothing - Coolibar

    that's a good idea,but I use this along with my SPF50 sunscreen. http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0248/3435/products/UWS_beach-shot_front-view_1024x1024.jpg?326

  10. I looked through the after care threads and didn't see any about long term care.

My oldest piece isn't much more than a year old and I still hit it with a little auqaphor during the course of healing the others.

When I told my artist this he kind of chuckled and said something like that'll keep'm moist and didn't advise for or against it.

So my question is, is this good? Bad? Make zero difference over the life of the tattoo? I ask because my tattoos are pretty vivid or sharp IMO and I'd like them to stay that way for as long and as much as possible. I mean I get it they fade a bit over time etc but they cost hard earned money and if there's a way to ensure they stay vivid I'd like to know ;) also if I'm just being a NewB I'd like to know :)

keep it out of the sun like was said and if long sleeves are not an option ,then use sun block like SPF 50 as a everyday thing.

  11. I doubt it's all that awesome in the big scheme of things, but Molly (the Big Dug!) was looking pretty pleased with herself last week on the top of Cairn Gorm. Scotland's 6th biggest mountain, no less!

I was with her, for the avoidance of doubt. ;)

way nice picture & dog ! love it

that's "Post awesome things you have been doing recently" worthy for sure !
