  1. Thanks CaptCanada - I'm going to be in Tokyo in September either way, but it would have been cool if the convention was on (if it fell on the same dates as last year, or the days around that, then I could have gone).

Found his Ameba page and he did post information about the 2011 convention. It will be October 8, 9, 10... lets just hope there isn't a cancellation.

here is the page KING of TATTOO 2011

  2. To be honest, I don't much care for Amy Winehouse, and with her passing I can't really give that much of a second thought. But my sympathize does go out to her family and close friends. Cause they are the ones that will have to continue, not her.

  3. [EDIT] okay on second thought, after googling kings of tattoo, it seemed like they had an event in April called kings of tattoo live. Let's just hope that is just a branch off and the convention they made after the other venue didn't wan to host it, and they still had all these other artsts comming to Tokyo. If not got to wait another year to go to this convention. Things have always happened that stopped me from going to a convention in Japan.

  4. Yeah, it should be going on. The guy that runs it from Tokyo hardcore planned another event in April/May but the venue fell though. But I havent heard that Kings of Tattoo will have any problems this year.

Tattoo Summit the organizer disappeared a few years ago, that doesn't go on anymore.

  5. is he english? or an american just wishin' he was an english skinhead?

My guess would be American. He got the union jack instead I the flag of England. It could also be the tattooer that did the flag just told him either people will see a rectangle with a red cross in it, or just a red cross (outlined/no outline). And people won't know what it is.

  6. Well although I live here, I'm living in the Tokyo area. I can"t say how well the shops in the southern part of Japan are, but one of the most well known shops in the south is Chopstick. What type of tattoo is your friend looking for, that can help me direct you in the right direction.

  7. Well if you look at it, its the best of every world. Men wont go hungry, cause they know how to grow crops. They know how to survive in the wild, and lastly they know the basics of a skill that they can learn more of in the future. Plop them in the middle of it and they should be able to use all of those skills they have been learning.

  8. Yeah it's a bad time for all of us. Not only do we speak about the good ol' days, but those days we are talking about ain't even in our life time... Well at least not mine. Men gotta become men again. Maybe start a program that every 20 year old male starts a 2 year corse. 6 months field work, 6 months outdoor training (camping, and yes 6 months of it), 6 months trade skill building, and the last 6 months put'em far away from home with a few tools and make him find his way back home. Guess that last one will take some guys longer then 6 months.

I wouldn't say half the globe though, maybe 20 percent.

  9. My thinking would be similar to eveyone that has posted before me. I would like to be tattooed by a ever changing list that I have in my head. I respect these tattooers for the work they put out, to me the image they tattoo on me isn't has important as the quality of it. But like the exerpt that Petri quoted, death is something I don't really want to touch on. First impressions are important, and if you have someone being decapated on your forearm... well that's something hard to get past.

But I have been debating with myself over to do a full traditional Japanese body suit or to stop after what I have planned. Doing the suit would leave me with only a few areas that I could/would tattoo by other artists. Which would make those tattoos that much more special and push me to go to the tattooers I respect the most, no matter the distance/wait. Or just stopping and allowing me to get larger tattoos by more artists with my now saved skin.

When I do go to other artists though I would love to just say to them "I love the tattoos you do. I would like to set up an appointment. But I want to get something that you have been wanting to try to do" or something like that. Let them pick what to tattoo on that particular spot, to get their creative jucies flowing for what shape and flow it will have.

  10. I'm gonna have to second or third Laphroaig, I like Islay whiskys the most. The 10 year is good, but I've also tried to quarter cask and that stuff was delicious. First time I bought it, I ended up finishing the bottle that night, very sauced. If I wanna change it up a little bit then I go for Glen Elgin, or if its just to wet my lips Black Label.
