  1. Saw this and didn't want to start a new thread to just post a link, so thought to put it here. BBC News - Today - In pictures: The Yakuza
  2. Oh, I don't know. Maybe Jackson Pollack minus, of course, the texture. They actually remind me a bit of a video I saw about bioluminescence.
  3. Just comes off as being a bit TOO derivative of Graphic Design AD work, which isn't something I would want permanently on my skin, so I agree with that sentiment expressed by people better versed than I. The whole stamped and/or type writer font wording on several of the examples posted by @Iwar leave me pretty cold. BUT, the point about strong outlines made me think about Amanda Wachob, and I am curious what other people here think about her work in comparison and in contrast to work posted above.

  5. That's awesome! Do you have any idea about it's history? Family heirloom? Military? etc. What process or techniques do you use? Particularly with the wood. Looks great!
  6. Tattoo Newbie Guidelines Thinks someone might shoot you an IM or email, but not likely someone will post an opinion on open forum thread.
  7. What disappointed me about the spread was that the tattoos weren't in anyway compelling/arresting/beautiful/thought-provoking/subversive or really anything, which for me is kinda the point of art. Holds the 'modern artists' responsible for that.
  8. Saw this on the Daily Beast....honestly, after seeing the tattoos, I'm like, '....fucking whatever.' Garage Magazine
  9. No worries! Figured someone would end up looking the tattooer up or something and then point it out. In regards to her tumblr, I think it goes to show, that actually you can tell whether a tattoo is good, without having to be a tattooer, since I am not and I knew pretty much immediately what I felt was good or not, and for the most part, corresponded with her thinking. Some of the 'whys' were interesting.
  10. @gougetheeyes Harlan Ellison is a GIANT and a character of the first order! Neil Gaiman, during the 20th Anniversary of SANDMAN talk at 92nd Street Y, does a terrific impression on him. Why he isn't mentioned along Bradbury as a first tier author is travesty. @dcostello Buying my tickets to CHINA....
  11. Just a clarification, not that it should change anyone's opinion, but the person putting up this tattoo critique tumblr is a lady, rather than a gentleman.
  12. Anyone heard of this site: Dermagraphique: A tattoo critique This seemed like the best thread to ask this question in.
  13. Key word: Jacksonville. Loves where I am from, but knows the proclivities of some of it's citizens well.
  14. Sentiment over Sentimentality... Great Documentary, up there with "Hoop Dreams."
  15. Found this during lunch, not sure what to make of it, except it's pretty cool....
  16. Wow, puts a whole new spin on 'FIDO' (Fuck it, Drive on), dcostello. The girl in the second video with the black/white striped shirt is cute. :)
  17. That's the cake maker talking there! Just pour the bottle over it!* *Just kidding!
  18. line cook. Interesting blog/podcast about SF food scene and food scene in general. It has not been updated in a long while, but still is pretty cool. The podcast with Violet Blue had me laughing to tears, at times. 19. So, in order to the get the Battles, at Battle of the Year, crews have to perform a 'Showcase.' These are two of the best examples over the years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORuTKSYj1z8&feature=related
  20. I recognize when it happens to you, it's more than advertised. No offense meant, Wedge, and apologies if what I said caused some.
