  2. @hogg Great chart. Thanks for the options, but I am so cheap.... I get a good workout with the equipment I have. Some day I'll join a real gym and maybe they will have chains that I can play around with.
  3. I wish I had chains. Bands are much cheaper though, especially since they go on sale at EFS at least once a month.
  4. It's not like you have to go to failure on the GVT. We aren't talking Crossfit here in the realm of forced reps and do it until the clock runs out. I find that doing a compound move with light weight (roughly 65% 1RM) and high volume will help you assess and fix your weak areas. If you have a weak lower back, the volume of squatting by itself will fix it. In a 10x10, the weight should be light enough that you shouldn't have to worry about injury unless you're just doing it wrong. To exaggerate a little to further my point, you should be able to do a 20x20 injury free as long as the weight is properly set and proper technique is used. In my realm of lifting, I finally hit a huge PR on dead lift this week that I've been aiming for. Since numbers on the internet don't matter, let's just say it was 8421lbs. Gotta love getting consistently stronger. If I keep up this rate, I might dabble in strongman next year.
  5. Like the others said, I've never done the full routine of it, but I've done 10x10 a couple times. It's rough. It takes a couple workouts to find your ideal weight. I always got cocky and overshot. Then again, I had no idea how to lift back in those days.... I got a deep tissue massage this Saturday to alleviate some mid back tightness. Oye, that was worth the pain. My back feels amazing, and just in time for dead lift day.

  8. That sounds like fun. In the Chaos and Pain blog I posted about, he liked to do this one kind of training when he had a reliable partner called "Uncle training". Basically, pick an exercise and a weight. Do doubles until one of you gives up. Cu Bu if you have reliable training partners relative to your strength, that could get interesting...Especially with rack pulls.

  11. Jesus, you people are scaring the shit out of me. I'm going to be starting a back piece before I'm 30. It's like someone stated before, it is something that I have always had a huge respect for, and it's something I want to get done, no matter the cost (physical, mental, and financial). My question is how many hours did it take? It seems like most can be done in a couple months if you push it, but how many hours of actual work is that? Once I start, I know I'm going to be antsy to see it finished.
  12. Definitely agree with that. Eat everything never worked for me either. The problem with adding muscle is that you have to gain fat too. Caloric surplus is required for muscle gain, you're just going to have to balance it out with cardio and adjusting calories. Your diet looks good. If your growth has plateaued with that food, you're just going to have to eat more. I'd start with small increments and go from there. You can add a little per meal, or just eat something before bed. Some people might critique and say you shouldn't have so many shakes, but the ease of a shake vs real food is sometimes a better option depending on the person's schedule.
  13. 10lbs of muscle is going to be done primarily with food. That being said, adding some volume to your workouts would help as well. I will make some additions in bold, let me know what you think. These are what I would do, so it's never a clear cut and dry "Do this now to get huge." I don't really like to talk about rep ranges since preference varies greatly per person, but it is a basic rule that around the 8-12 rep range is best for hypertrophy, if you are working around 75-80% your 1RM. So really, just make sure you do more than 15 reps per exercise, because that's just not enough to grow. Also, how tall are you and how old are you? Those 2 factors would give a good idea as to how fast you can put on 10lbs of muscle naturally. My suggestions and rationale are in bold. I'm not a fan of a day just for shoulders, but to each their own. My shoulders aren't anything to write home about. I just polish off my shoulders after bench press day.

  18. With a very dark tan and the bright lights on you, you should still be able to see all the detail.   19. That's true, he definitely didn't start getting a lot done until closer to his retirement. Now with some Masters divisions cropping up, he has teased a couple times within the last couple years that he was going to compete but it hasn't come to fruition yet.
  20. These days a good judge is supposed to look past the tattoos. Otherwise if Lee Priest were to compete again, he'd never win. But I agree with RoryQ on how the uninspired black work and tribal seem to be a main gym rat theme. Every now and then I catch some good looking ones, but it's not often. There is one guy with a sick looking Freddy Krueger on his arm.
  21. Yeah, I think my statement is pretty true. There are some large tribes from up here (Erie, Susquehanna, Shawnee, etc...), but the lineage is fairly diluted. It is much more common to see stronger Native American blood in the midwest. I can't say I've ever met or seen anyone in my life so far who had dominant Native American blood. Most of the people around here descended from immigrants...or they are black and hispanic.
  22. My brother is really into the Native American culture, even though my family has no ancestry. He has an animal totem on his forearm of a badger, a wolf and a hawk. He did some research as to what each animal meant spiritually, and ended up choosing those 3. He wants to finish off his forearm with a depiction of a rabbit smoking a pipe while a lynx (or some other predator) stalks it. This is a legend that does not have a clear origin. It's said to come from Cree, but there doesn't seem to be a large consensus. The rabbit is an intelligent and wily animal in Native American culture, so it sitting around smoking a pipe while it is being stalked shows that it is confident creature and that it can escape any trouble that comes after it. *I had to Google all that because I couldn't remember exactly what my brother had told me. As far as any input from Native Americans on his tattoo and idea, it's non-existent. The north east USA doesn't have ancestry like that.
  23. I am on top of my nutrition 100%, and I can't hold off DOMS. I'm talking the kind of soreness where you have to use the sink to lower yourself down on to the toilet. I've tried so many different combinations of amino acids and in different ratios... I get sore all the time. I like to blame genetics, but I really have no idea what makes it so bad for me and not others. To get results you either need to increase volume or intensity. These are basics!
