  1. Hmm, I just saw this part:

"Kitsune, or fox, grow in power as they age. After a century, they grow a tail and gain the ability to shape-shift and possess people. The most powerful foxes are those who reach the grand old age of 1,000 (the so-called nine-tailed fox). When a kitsune gains nine tails, its fur becomes silver, white, or gold, and it gains the power of infinite vision."

So in keeping with tradition, nine-tailed Kitsune should be silver, white, or gold then?

  2. If the scene is the koi climbing the waterfall to become a dragon I've read it's supposed to be maple.

Yeah, that was the idea. I've emailed the artist and this was his reply:

"what the artical states is common practice in japanese tattooing, however representing seasons in tattooing is not really necessary as we are not japanese and tattoos have such great personal importance. i think it is more important to get the items that appeal to you and you will be happy to wear for the rest of your life rather than worry to much about seasons and tradition. this said if you would like to go true traditional this is no problem either."

So, he basically supports what you have said @DJDeepFried

I will go for maple leaves- and thank you so much for the articles, I've been devouring as much knowledge as I can on the subject.

  3. That is an incredible article. I've read books on Japanese tattooing that don't mention the seasonal cohesion mentioned there. Thanks for sharing.

Hmm. Now I'm wondering if I should email it to my tattoo artist. He's designing a custom koi sleeve with cherry blossoms... maybe I should change to maple leaves if he is amenable...

  4. @Zillah Looking forward to seeing what you get! Any clues as to what or by whom? I hope that you have a great experience with this one (and subsequent others!)

Thanks :) I'm getting a koi, done by Nick Agnew of Kingsland Ink on April 8th, seems too far away, can't wait! It's my graduation present to myself. My ceremony is the next day, and my mum is like, "won't people be hugging you a lot? That will be sore!"

  5. I'm a PC gamer- no X box or anything. I'll grab B:I on my next payweek :o

I love Elder Scrolls but like solo gaming- not sure if it's worth the monthly subscription if I have to meet up with others online to play for a guild or something, shift work and time diffence would make that impossible

  6. Love TES games, especially Skyrim. Bioshock 1 & 2 are awesome, have been meaning to buy Bioshock Infinite but need all my money for my upcoming tattoo at the moment. Loved Half-Life 2, heaps of fun, also Portal 1 & 2. Just finished Dishonored recently in the path of shadow, will run through it again taking the path of blood when I can, being employed really cuts into your gaming time.

  7. I always get crap for one of my favourite books, Ayn Rand's 'Atlas Shrugged'. People tend to think that just because I love that book, that it means I am pro-capitalist and an objectivist.

I'm reading 'Rapture', derived from the first Bioshock game at the moment.
